me to get to a hotel and sort the alternator in the morning. $300 but thats ok you pay for the service as well as the battery. He was friendly and efficient.4 months later the battery failed and had to be replaced.Called them about warranty and was told that if you remove the battery you void the warranty????and being 5hrs out of Sydney I was out of the service area anyway. Canberra is the nearest supplier 2hrs away . My local supplier will replace a battery under warranty no questions asked . Disappointing and a bit dodgy I think .

properly. Beaver behind the bumper bar was still bent, air bag light was still on, lights in tail light replaced didn't work and hatch wasn't aligned correctly. Smash repairer fixed it all before the assessor saw the car so they wouldn't loose the contract. Complaints team with real insurance are pointless as they only agree with what you are saying to try and give me some sort of satisfaction that they actually care about what happened. For such a minor accident that wasn't my fault real insurance made it so difficult to get the car fixed without any issues. I will never use you as an insurance company ever again.

the time got to 11.00 am I decided to ring again to find out why I was still waiting and how much longer because I was already 2 hours late for work. After being on hold while I walked my dog for about just over an hour someone finally got to my call.I told the lady from Budget roadside assistance how long I have been waiting and she didn't seem at all bothered until I told her I was upset and that I wouldn't be renewing my membership next year and that I was disgusted in the service she said I do apologise and will pass on the complaint. She said do you still want someone to tend to your car and I said no I have arranged a new battery by myself,as I presumed that is what the problem was and it was when the battery guy came out . The battery was installed within the hour which should of been the time frame with Budget Direct.Im not happy and as I said I will not be renewing my membership with this company.

My husband and I have used insurance products from RAC for the last 30+ years. Recently had a very disappointing experience with regard to one of… Read more

our children insured under our policy, who has now been refused insurance. Probably quickest just to copy and paste my latest email to RAC Member Services - unanswered for the past 10 days:

Dear RAC WA Complaints Team I am writing to express my disappointment with your recent response regarding our policy. Firstly, there was no acknowledgement of our more than 30 years of loyal service as RAC WA members. Over that time, we have paid sizeable premiums across numerous policies and have very rarely required any claims. This long-standing relationship appears to have been given no weight in your assessment. Secondly, I request that you clearly outline what you refer to as your “careful consideration” of the decision to refuse [son's name] as a driver, as this is not evident from the outcome or explanation provided. For example, your response failed to acknowledge that the initial accident claim involving [son's name] was ambiguous as to who was at fault (per your correspondence dated xxxxx 2026). In addition, were you even aware that the suspension of [son's name]’s licence arose from the loss of four demerit points, not twelve (ie 2 speeding fines)? The fact that you say “careful consideration” but provide absolutely no rationale is concerning and undermines confidence in the fairness of your review.

Additionally, there are practical inconsistencies within your correspondence that require clarification. For example, there is one line indicating that [son's name] was refused insurance, yet subsequent pages continue to request information about him. If he was already deemed a refused driver, it is unclear why this information was still being sought. These inconsistencies suggest a lack of internal alignment in your documentation and process. More broadly, there is a significant moral and ethical concern in how this matter has been handled. RAC WA has been willing to accept our premiums for decades, during which time we made minimal claims. As such the relationship falls heavily in your favour financially. However, as soon as the policy appears to present a higher risk or becomes potentially uneconomic, the response has effectively been to withdraw support. This raises serious questions about the value placed on long-term members and the principles guiding your decision-making. I also note that the response was signed by a Specialist Support & Complaints Officer with the statement, “I’m for our members.” Based on this experience, that assertion feels difficult to reconcile with the outcome we have received, which appears to prioritise corporate interests over member support. Finally, I encourage RAC WA to reflect on broader customer sentiment, including publicly available feedback such as reviews on ProductReview.com.au (RAC Car Insurance reviews | ProductReview.com.au), which highlight similar concerns raised by other members. I will not be escalating this matter to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority at this stage, as I am sure RAC WA corporate lawyers have ensured that the reams of unreadable language issued in policy terms & conditions will cover you. I will instead be adding my experience to public forums such as the one above.

answer all my questions. I was able to take my car to Motor One for repairs (if you get the option, avoid Capital SMART Repairs). Motor One were amazing and had my car repaired perfectly and sent plenty of text communication to let me know what stage of the repair was being undertaken. A Hertz rental car was supplied for the duration of the repair and taxis were provided between the repair centre and the hire company. No complaints at all. (caveat - the claim was not my fault so I'm not sure if you'll get the same services if the accident is your fault).

Claim was made with difficulty - dial 9 to go around in circles telephone merry-go-round, much elevator music, much connected to English as Second Language persons in the Philippines.

Theft was actually caught on CCTV and the vehicle was recovered, though with some damage. Police also sent a forensic person who dusted for fingerprints. Cops recognised the thief in the CCTV video and were hoping for an arrest.

Despite the possible arrest, despite the video evidence and despite my having no wallet, debit card, licence or anything really, GIO harassed me via email until I paid the policy excess then IMMEDIATELY accused me of FRAUD.

Insisted I make contact and then strung me along for a bit more of the old elevator music interspersed with "your call is important to us, that's why we won't answer with a humanoid......" for about another hour.

I have 3 cars and a motorcycle all comprehensively insured with these charlatans. Well had. I have already cancelled the other two cars and the motorcycle policy. All now covered with a proper insurer.

I also have the ombudsman looking at my thus far still in dispute claim.

Give this crowd a swerve. I know all insurers are the lowest of the low but there must be a more honest and reliable insurer than these people.

Edit: More hassles when cancelling the policies: Tried to log into my 'online account' which promptly crashed. Tried to telephone was on hold so long I gave up, eventually chatted with a 'bot' (for Gods sake!) And if insurers want to use off shore call centres for cost reduction, then at least have enough operators to answer calls in a timely manner….

Cancellation mission was eventually accomplished, I sincerely hope.....

Can these people get anything right? Feeling better already though! Now hoping the Financial Industry Ombudsman tears them a new one.

spontaneous sunroof failure. However, the situation escalated significantly when my vehicle was towed in heavy rain, resulting in extensive water exposure inside an electric vehicle. What began as a single issue quickly became a far more serious problem due to poor handling and lack of care.

More than eight weeks later, after countless hours spent on phone calls, emails, and repeated complaints, the resolution has been wholly inadequate. The vehicle was returned with only superficial cleaning, including what appears to have been a basic vacuum, despite clear evidence of water ingress. The sunroof was replaced with parts that do not match the quality of the original, and concerningly, visible glass fragments were still present in the vehicle—posing a safety risk to my family, including our three young children.

Throughout the process, communication has been inconsistent and, at times, misleading. Key information was not provided in writing despite requests, and I was repeatedly required to restate details of the claim, adding unnecessary stress and frustration.

This vehicle is less than a year old, yet it has been returned in a condition that includes a persistent damp odour and unresolved concerns about water damage. There has been little acknowledgement of the inconvenience or the significant mental and logistical strain caused by being without our vehicle for an extended period.

An offer of a small cash settlement was made to close the complaint; however, this was undermined by the expectation that we would incur additional out-of-pocket costs—such as a $180 trip to collect a hire car that should have been covered under the policy.

Overall, this experience has demonstrated a concerning lack of care, accountability, and customer support. I would strongly urge others to carefully consider their options before choosing this insurer.

repairer' for 5 weeks before being assessed. No mechanical damage, minor repairs required. Still waiting and it is now April. Written complaints get no response. At all. Repeated phone calls to suncorp go nowhere with regards to repairs being progressed. I get sent texts with updates that are out of date and mean nothing. The latest was this morning which was the exact same message that I received a month ago, that the repair is in 'painting phase'. Must be some paint job if it is taking a month to complete. I get referred to the repairer for more current updates. I generally give up on this after the repairer has me on hold for an hour and a half. Interestingly though, suncorp is brilliant at texts, and emails reminding me that my premium is due. Avoid Suncorp at all costs, including the other insurers that are part of the Suncorp Group.
