is such a large company; they do the bare minimum and don’t care.

While I understand that a five-year-old car will naturally have general wear and tear, such as minor scratches etc., there were several significant defects missing from the report. The inspection missed a large chip in the windscreen, located directly in the driver’s field of view, a very loud, constant rattle at high speed, four significant dents, a broken air vent, a broken console, and a damaged badge.

I contacted Redbook with my feedback and they pretty much said tough cookies, denied the chip in the windscreen and said they couldn’t see any dents because it was raining. They referred me to the “photographic evidence of the vehicle’s condition”, however the images they send are low resolution so it’s not possible to see details. THAT is why you pay for an inspection! I could have asked the dealer to send me pictures.

I’ve had a pre-purchase inspection from an independent mechanic before, and they recorded every detail and defect. I would have thought Redbook would do the same purely for due diligence. As an interstate buyer, I relied on Redbook’s inspection to decide whether to travel from Melbourne to Sydney to view the car in person (which I did). What a waste of my time and money.

WHAT A MISTAKE. After picking up my car, I was stunned to see a mess left everywhere, and damage - see photos. There was old tint everywhere. There were stains on my car's interior from the steaming removal of old tint. There were bubbles on every single one of my 7 windows tinted. The manager Shane said they will go away soon. They did not. He then told me that the air bubbles were flecks of paint on the outside of my windows. My rear demister had also been damaged and no longer worked. It had been working prior to the tint removal. Shane later told me that the tint installer who did my job had only ever done one other car tint in Australia. Instant Windscreens asserts on their website that their technicians are very experienced and professional. And that every job is quality checked before customer pickup. I demanded a refund and restitution for damage, but not successful. I have had to instruct a lawyer to take out a claim in the Magistrates Court. This review in its entirety has been completed by Paul Smith, using my joint email address shared with my wife.

actually a bit shook up. He suggested I call Melbourne Collission Centre at Mentone as he had a great experience previously. I called their number, they picked up within a few rings and spoke to a 'real' person. They were great, they put me at ease straight away and to be quite frank, simply took control of the situation on my behalf. I was provided with a 4WD hire car similar to mine, newer model actually, in around 50 minutes! I still find that service amazing to this day. Throughout the process I was given weekly updates, sometimes twice a week, with images of my car showing works being done, the overall progress even when inspections were being done. All this helped reduce the stress of it all. And when all was done, the car was delivered to my home just after 6pm when I get home and it is just perfect! If you too end up in the wrong place at the wrong time like me don't hesitate to call Melbourne Collision Repair Centre Mentone they take care of everything. Simply first class.

My father engaged Ace Mechanics to repair his Mercedes and was invoiced for a “New Genuine SAM Module.” The repair ended up costing close to $4,000.

Shortly after the repair, the vehicle developed further issues. When we asked the business to provide basic documentation identifying the unit supplied (such as the supplier invoice or serial number), they were unwilling to provide any evidence of the part that was actually installed in the vehicle, despite charging for a “New Genuine SAM Module.”

My father is a pensioner and relies on access to the boot of the car for his mobility aid. The fault affecting the boot means the vehicle cannot be used independently, which has effectively left him unable to leave home without assistance and caused significant stress.

If the business chooses to respond to this review, I will be happy to attach the supporting documentation from this dispute, which demonstrates our repeated requests for evidence of the unit installed and the business’s refusal to disclose this information.

I approached the nearest MIDAS on this occasion. This was a big mistake! I called and explained my situation, and they offered to check the alternator asap. I expressed my appreciation and drove straight down. After a very short period of time, only a couple of minutes, the receptionist told me my alternator needs replacing, and it would be $800.00. This verbal quote was offered without a detailed explanation or alternative action, such as using a reconditioned unit to save costs: no written quote and no explanation as to the possible cause. In fact, the mechanic couldn't confidently answer any of my questions. Deflecting and remaining very vague. Since there was no manager present, I had no alternative but to walk away and reassess my options. Not good enough.

Yes, a battery was included in the work, but the price charged for it — along with the overall invoice — was, in our view, completely unreasonable. As a young driver with limited mechanical knowledge, he trusted the advice he was given. Unfortunately, that trust was not respected.

What made the situation even more concerning was that he was also told the car needed new tyres, even though those tyres had only travelled about 10,000 km. Our previous set of the same tyres lasted roughly 40,000 km, so that recommendation immediately raised serious questions.

After reading through many other reviews, it is hard not to notice similar concerns being raised repeatedly — high bills, unexpected recommendations, and customers leaving feeling they were pushed into work they did not truly understand or expect. Several reviews from women and younger customers describe very similar experiences, which is troubling.

Before the standard response appears saying “we can’t find the booking”, “this isn’t an authentic review”, or “there was a video explaining the work”, let me be clear:

• This was a real visit to Auto Masters Canning Vale • The date was 04-02-2026 • The invoice total was over $2,400 • One of the recommendations was for new tyres at only 10,000 km

The issue isn’t that work was done — the issue is pricing, transparency, and trust. When a young person takes their car in, they should receive honest guidance, not leave feeling like they have been talked into excessive costs.

I strongly suggest anyone — particularly young drivers, women, and families — get a second opinion before approving major work here.

In our view, this was not service — it was opportunistic selling dressed up as advice.

This experience left us feeling that a young customer was seen as an easy sale rather than someone who deserved honest advice.

Reason, windscreen was done in the morning, one person “tried” recalibrating the windscreen in the morning, couldn’t do it. So it then sat there for 5-6 hours because they couldn’t be bothered getting back to it. Finally got in it. They didn’t put my $1200 dash cam back on, went back in. They came and put it on. Now it doesn’t work at all. Complaint straight through to insurance company who sent me to them. Will never let Novas touch my car ever again. The individual who “tried” to celebrate it got foul for being called out on bad excuses. They also took it for a 6 minute drive while i was standing there waiting. 6 minutes at $3.89.9 a litre. Not impressed. No regard for client time or loss of wages because they have to have it “all day” because of the 10 minute calibration. What a joke of a place.

company and can only agree with the other older reviews, mine was a private job (not through insurance) to repair damage to the back door of my suv which didn't look much but hidden beneath the panels a bit more damage had been sustained. I can only say the repairs where done immaculately, color match was really good and overall repair was really excellent and timely completed. Yes the premises compared to other shops probably doesn't look as good, but the repairs are very well done. If you are looking for a repair job in the Merrylands area I can only recommend them to do a good job.
