Sam was quick to address it without hesitation. Delivering a 48-square home in just 7 months is seriously impressive. We feel incredibly lucky to have had Sam as our site supervisor. He genuinely cared about the end result and went above and beyond multiple times to sort out our concerns—no matter how big or small.
Alyssa, our building coordinator, was just as fantastic. She was always on top of everything—variations, paperwork, calls—you name it. Not once did we have to chase her up. She was responsive, organised and made the whole admin side of the build feel easy, which is no small thing. Looking back, it’s people like Sam and Alyssa who really make the difference. inspector made a comment to me about the practical impact of having a supervisor of good caliber managing the site. Patrick was consistently receptive to our independent inspection reports and addressed items without hesitation. When an item fell within acceptable building tolerances, he provided a clear, technical justification so we understood the reasoning. His transparency was particularly evident when black spots began expanding on the cedar timber cladding; he brought the issue to our attention himself—something we would not have noticed on our own—stating he wanted to ensure the right outcome for the project. He then organized a full replacement. He was similarly proactive on site details, including personally intervening to ensure changes to our solar inverter setup were successfully resolved.
Should we undertake another project in the Melbourne North Metro region in future, we would specifically request a site supervisor with his level of competence, committment and standard of oversight.
Jenna & Violeta (Administration / Pre-Site): The administrative side of a build can be incredibly stressful, but Jenna (our Pre-Site Manager) and Violeta made it absolutely seamless. Both were on par with each other in terms of exceptional service—highly organized, incredibly responsive, and always keeping us updated with clear communication. Navigating the paperwork, approvals, and scheduling was an absolute breeze thanks to their efficiency and support.
Violeta was also incredibly helpful when it came to coordinating the changes for our solar inverter setup; she consistently followed up behind the scenes to ensure everything was tracked and processed as per the contract terms.
The Sales Phase:
Anisha (Sales): Our great experience started right at the beginning with Anisha. She provided us with a fantastic, transparent quote and took the time to genuinely explain what was necessary for our build and what wasn't. Because we were doing a knockdown rebuild, our site costs did end up becoming slightly higher, but Anisha had clearly explained exactly what to expect right from the initial stages. Her honesty and clarity gave us total confidence moving forward without any hidden surprises.
The Interior Design & Studio M Phase:
Zayla (Interior Design): Zayla was incredible at bringing our ideas to life. We showed her a few inspiration images from the internet, and she instantly understood our vision. Thanks to her guidance, both the interior and exterior of the home turned out exactly as we had imagined.
William (Studio Electricals): Navigating electrical selections can easily become overwhelming, but William was fantastic to work with. He helped us smoothly navigate all our selections and offered highly practical, real-world recommendations that made perfect sense for our layout. His expertise ensured we ended up with a smart, functional electrical plan without any guesswork.

Follow-up · Was very happy until a small crack appeared in the ceiling plaster. Metricon simply refused to visit the property to inspect, insisting that someone has been in the roof space to cause that damage. This is not the case. Poor form Metricon - just to save a few hundred dollars.

I am quite disappointed with my experience building with Metricon. One of the main reasons I chose a large builder was because I thought the quality and customer service would be better than smaller builders, but that hasn’t been the case. From the beginning, I felt rushed through the whole process. The appliances in my package were later changed… Read more
due to unavailability, and I ended up with a cooktop and dishwasher I don’t like. The colour appointment was especially stressful — I clearly said it was my first time building and that I wanted to take my time because I was spending tens of thousands on upgrades, but I was constantly told there was another appointment and we needed to hurry. I had less than 20 minutes to choose bathroom tiles. I was told about the price for the upgraded items but was never properly explained the differences or functions.
It was also very hard to visualise anything properly. Most selections were done using small samples, brochures, and laptop images instead of proper displays like you see in places like IKEA or Bunnings, so it was hard to picture how the final kitchen or bathrooms would actually look.
There were also things that were never clearly explained. I paid around $3,200 for curtains and blinds, but later found out kitchen and laundry weren’t included. Flyscreens were also not installed on the laundry, dining room, or front door, and this was never properly explained — if I had known, I would have added them during the build.
Even the plans were misleading in some ways. The shower screen looked about 1800mm wide and 2000mm high on paper, but the actual shower cabin is only about 900mm wide, which feels much smaller. The bathroom shower should have a spiral hose, not the standard hose currently installed. The quality of the current hose is also unsatisfactory. After moving in, I also noticed the sliding wardrobe doors feel thin, and despite asking for more bench space around the cooktop, it wasn’t done. I cannot even put a decent size chopping baord on the side of the kitchen as there is not enough room. The dishwasher is also very noisy. cheap quality entry appliances were used such as solt and Inalto.
The double garage driveway is too narrow to comfortably accommodate two vehicles side by side. Even when two cars are parked on the driveway, there is insufficient space to properly open the doors of either vehicle. This significantly impacts the practicality and functionality of the driveway.
I also didn’t hire inspectors at every stage, only at final inspection, and even then my inspector was told to hurry up, which shouldn’t happen at all.
Looking back, I would seriously consider buying an established home instead. At least you can see exactly what you’re getting before committing, rather than finding out after you move in.
Overall, I feel like the focus is more on pushing customers through the process rather than helping them make informed decisions they’ll be happy living with long term. The house-and-land packages are very basic, and you almost have to upgrade everything.I am looking forward to selling my home in the future and will definitely rebuild something much more liveable.

Despite our initial 5 star review in 2023 I do want to warn people regarding the solar hot water with gas continuous hot water back up from Chromagen. Metricon pointing fingers at each other but have no resolution, both saying it's now out of warranty plus Chromagen say they aren't responsible because Metricon installed the system and Metricon saying they aren't responsible because since it happens every year it must be a problem with the Chromagen unit. The communication and customer service throughout this warranty period have been terrible. To make matters worse, our site supervisor did a poor job managing the initial build, leaving us to chase up fixes that should have been done right the first time. Building a home is a massive investment, and Metricon’s lack of accountability and poor follow-through after they receive final payment is deeply disappointing.
