The build was managed well, on time and on budget. There was no extra cost except where we asked for changes. Build took 8 to 9 months. We have had a few very minor issues which were quickly resolved like a broken drain, a couple of cracks in the cornice and some sliding doors need adjusting. After handover, I continued following up with the builder for approximately 15 months in an effort to have the outstanding defects rectified. Unfortunately, despite repeated follow-ups, many of the defects remained unresolved.
I then wrote a review in December 2025 outlining my experience. Even after writing that review, I kept the matter in mediation to give Hotondo Homes Head Office and the builder a fair opportunity to resolve the issue amicably.
It has now been a further 7 months since then, with multiple follow-ups made to both Hotondo Homes Head Office and the builder, but the outstanding work is still not completed.
I have genuinely tried to resolve this matter respectfully and amicably over an extended period. However, after repeated delays, ongoing lack of communication, and no meaningful progress, I am extremely disappointed with the lack of responsiveness, accountability, and follow-through from both Hotondo Homes Campbelltown and Hotondo Homes Head Office.
As a customer, this experience has been extremely frustrating and disheartening. Building a home is a major financial and emotional commitment, and customers place a significant amount of trust in the builder and the brand behind them. To have defects remain unresolved for this length of time, despite repeated follow-ups and escalations, has left me feeling ignored and let down. I had expected a much higher level of care, communication, and accountability from a recognised home builder.
At this stage, I feel I have been left with no reasonable option but to consider escalating the matter through the appropriate NSW Fair Trading / Building Commission NSW channels. This is not the outcome I wanted, as I have made every effort to resolve the matter directly and amicably over an extended period. However, given the time that has passed, the number of follow-ups made, and the lack of meaningful progress, I believe formal escalation may now be necessary to have the outstanding defects properly addressed.

We were specifically looking to create a designer-style home and made a number of upgrades and custom changes to one of their standard house plans. Hotondo Bendigo were very accommodating and flexible in helping us achieve the result we wanted.
The home itself is approximately 400 square metres on a 1,500 square metre block, so it was a substantial project, the entire process was handled professionally and efficiently.
The build was completed ahead of schedule, and they allowed us to organise and complete a large shed, swimming pool, and fencing independently prior to handover, which significantly reduced the amount left to do afterwards.
Overall, it was a wonderful building experience and we would not hesitate to recommend Hotondo Homes Bendigo to anyone considering building.

Ben, the site supervisor, does a fantastic job keeping things running smoothly. He’s easy to talk to, always happy to explain what’s happening on site, and quick to follow up on any questions we have, which puts our minds at ease.

electronic for a number of years, yet amazingly transparent and straight forward. Over the years, they helped us with plans and permits and later on with actual development of the 4 units.
Wayne Marc has been an iconic builder, very well-known and respected in the Northern region covering Kilmore, Wallan, Broadford etc. Kalen and Keegan took over the family business from their parents, and boy not only they have maintained the legacy of their father, they have taken it several notches higher. They are wonderful young brothers, who are very hard working, never shy of doing odd jobs by themselves when there is a need, wonderfully honest and straight forward. They delivered more than what they committed to, and were always available to discuss and address to our concerns and queries. They have been very flexible and very keen to meet our needs and expectations. It is very rare that a builder would allow other trade persons to be on building site, to accommodate time saving for the investor. Keegan and Kalen were extremely helpful throughout our journey during our first major development project.
While you may stumble across red tapes laid by council and other statutory bodies, Keegan and Kalen make sure that they help you as much as they practically can to help with affairs that don’t concern them. One more thing, Hotando Homes Wallan are not budget builders, so don’t expect low quality material and work. But they are worth every cent that you pay them.

to our expected standard.
The only issue that didn’t get rectified was the water tank. The one we received was not the correct size as per our tender documentation which we are disappointed about as it is 500ltr less than expected.
The interior designer (Karen) was fabulous to work with and did a great job assisting us with our floor plan design and final selections.
The final build was later than expected, mostly due to weather delays, which can’t be helped. After the build, the identified defects were rectified within a good timeframe.
We were allowed access to the site during the build period which was beneficial for us as having never built a house before it was good to see each stage progress.
Follow-up · We didn’t have landscaping done as part of our build as our budget didn’t quite stretch far enough. The exterior finishes are really good, very neat too. The electrician (Tony Sinclair) worked with us throughout the build and suggested lighting in places we didn’t think of, so the overall lighting is fantastic. Because we are true north facing and have a lot of windows, natural light is great too.

I really loved the process of selections and having the creative freedom to choose exactly what I wanted my home to look like. These selections were brought to life and I couldn’t be more happy with the result.
When I did my first walkthrough of the property, I was able to point out areas that needed attention, such as paint touch ups or tightening of fixings. I was satisfied with how promptly these were dealt with and the transparency of the team, making me feel at ease if there was something that needed addressing.
I would especially like to mention the kindness and compassion of the sales and selections team. They made the process run so smoothly and I couldn’t thank them enough for making me feel supported through such an important stage in my life.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Having a mental breakdown at age 32 was not on my to do list. What should have been one of the most exciting times of our lives — building our dream home — quickly turned into an exhausting, stressful, and deeply frustrating experience, all because of this builder’s complete lack of professionalism,… Read more

We were promised a 48-week build. It took 64 weeks — with no proper explanation, no ownership, and absolutely no urgency. A significant delay was caused by the builder due to a ‘clerical error’ made on our HCBF insurance – this took over 11 weeks to rectify causing an 11 week delay before our build even started but yet all Michael could do is try to return blame to us for not providing adequate access to the site.
Throughout the entire process, communication was beyond poor. We were left in the dark for weeks at a time, constantly chasing for updates and getting nothing but vague, dismissive responses — if any at all. It genuinely felt like once the contract was signed, we were no longer a priority.
Our bathroom tiles were laid in the wrong orientation despite the plans clearly showed the tile orientation. Again, a problem we were told was our fault for not telling the tilers to stop when we noticed the error.
We thought that we were getting to the end of this nightmare, then came the OC dramas. Yet again it was councils fault, then it was our fault. I have an email chain sent from council to Michael clearly stating that we needed to have a steel water tank installed in order to have the OC issued however he neglected to pass the information on. So there we were, on the day the OC was due to be issued having to call around to hope that someone could make and deliver a tank to us yesterday – of course another added expense we hadn’t accounted for, not that Michael cared.
The delays didn’t just push back a move-in date — they caused significant disruption to our lives. We were forced to extend our rental, re-coordinate multiple furniture deliveries, and carry the weight of added financial pressure. But worse than the money was the emotional toll. We spent months feeling stressed, powerless, and ignored, watching our timeline slip away without any sense of responsibility or care from their side. There was no transparency, no consistency, and no genuine effort to make things right. The build felt mismanaged from start to finish, and we were left to pick up the pieces. What should have been a milestone full of excitement ended up feeling like a drawn-out battle we had to fight alone.
If you value your time, money, and sanity — stay far away from this builder. They are disorganized, unresponsive, and showed a complete disregard for the trust we placed in them. We regret ever choosing them.
I honestly do not understand how this company receives 5 star reviews, even their head office confirmed that I was not the only person to make a complaint about Michael.
We were offered 10 weeks compensation - not sure how that figure was calculated however we wanted nothing more than this nightmare to be over and to never have to speak Michael again. Turns out our wish was granted, not only did Michael not attempt to make our handover, we have not heard a word from him since.
Before you do anything with this builder, I urge you to contact me so I can give you a clear and concise recount of our experience.
If I ever recover from the emotional distress this process has caused and decide to build another house, I will be going straight to Brad and the team at Stroud Homes Dubbo!

At the request of Hotondo Head-Office, we have kept quiet and respectful in the hope that our issues might be resolved without further conflict. Fail.
We thank Hotondo Head-Office for stepping in to assist in resolving the issues with Hotondo Campbelltown, some issues were resolved over that time, but many major items remaining. We had hoped that the involvement of Head Office would assist with a speedy resolution that could avoid further action but ultimately these franchises remain Soley responsible.
Over the last 2 years, additional issues have manifested including a major defect in our bathroom which has revealed non-code-compliant installation of the bath and frame which we now have to resolve with Fair Trading.
Do yourself a favor and avoid like the plague.
In honor of our 2-year anniversary, we are considering detailing the defects and poor workmanship in a social media homage dedicated to this remarkable team.
I'm sure Hotondo Campbelltown had hoped that we would eventually lose interest and go away - but i don't believe in quitting while there's still work to be done.

Extremely satisfied. Cannot give enough praise to the office staff, all the tradesmen and of course our project manager. Our dwelling was completed on time and any maintenance issues, which are minor, have been intended to immediately. Build quality was excellent and any issues we’ve raised were immediately sorted out.
