Tomorrow came. No tent.

I called again. This time it was “the next day.”

Then Friday came, and suddenly the story changed to “it will arrive in 5 days.” At that point I asked if I could simply pick it up from the depo, since clearly shipping wasn’t happening. Their response? “Maybe, we’ll let you know.” They never did.

After all that, they offered a refund. Fine. But when I called the next day to check on it, they told me I would need to post the accessories back myself, wait for them to receive them, and only then would they process the refund.

So let’s recap the adventure: • Paid extra for express shipping • Didn’t receive the main item • Given different promises every day • No follow-up to help me • Then told I need to spend more time and effort returning items just to get a refund for their mistake

This was an incredibly frustrating experience. For a well-known Australian outdoor retailer, the logistics, communication, and customer service were shockingly poor.

Camping gear is supposed to help people get outdoors — not trap them in a customer service loop.

Bad quality Joolca Cary bag that cost an arm and a leg – Purchased a Joolca carry bag for the hot water shower systems. Upon opening my package I could see the stitching on the carry bag is already coming apart. Carry bag is very expensive, very bad quality product. I did a one star review on their website on the product, however they have hidden the review. Pretty dishonest only to show good reviews.

My package has not arrived. They tell me it has, I tell them it hasnt. They don't know what is going on because they are "so busy".

Just price match them at BCF, or Anaconda or Tent World and save yourself the bull.

claiming items are on sale when they clearly aren't (I research items and know when they are on sale and when they are not) I have given up - saving a few buck is not worth the hassle, especially when you don't get what you ordered and can't get help when they get things wrong. The latest issue was purchasing a $100 item that is not what is described. Significant difference in features and packaging and apparently a previous model rather than the current one (according to manufacturer’s website).

On top of that, the item was delivered to the wrong address, then lost (no help or communication from Snowys to fix the issue with THEIR courier) and it would have been the 2nd thing in a month I had to go through the returns process and just could not be bothered. The last return was for an item that had been opened, sealed plastic in box had been opened then closed up with a cable tie (obvious massive tear was still visible) and one of the screws was stripped. This was clearly a returned item that was shipped as new. Snowys refund the PURCHASE price but not the postage for an item they themselves wrote off and told me to “dispose of responsibly” even though I offered to drop it off to the store for them.

Got an email from [Name Removed] saying he wanted to flick me a quick email to say thank you, that there had been a review of their entire customer database to recognise those who’ve supported us the most and I was one of those people.

He went on to say that, to show our appreciation for the support I’d shown them, to please accept a 5% off discount code on my next purchase over $50… no strings attached. Just make sure to use it before the end of next month (Oct 2022). Well obviously, those are strings [Name Removed], seriously, there two right there and when I tried to use the discount in store it turns out there’s a 3rd, it had to be used online. The email went on to say “Oh, and while I’ve got you… if you have any advice on how Snowys can be a more enjoyable place to shop, please email me personally…”. I did, twice, no response. Both my emails stated both things I loved and things that I really felt needed improvement but obviously he really didn’t give a stuff. Given he has the same surname as the managing director my guess is he doesn’t have to give a stuff as his job is not reliant of customer satisfaction and there won’t be repercussions if someone complains about him. The cheaper prices used to be worth it for name brands whose quality was proven but you don’t get what you ordered or when you do, it’s been returned and resent or it’s out of stock and it takes them a week to tell you despite the website still staying it’s in stock – it’ just not worth the stress.

Getting outdoors is my escape and they make it ironically considerably more stressful to get out and about it you deal with them.

By the way, have you noticed that they claim thousands of 5 star reviews on their "Customer review" page in the "About us" section of their website? They don't list the actual star ratings against the reviews the publish and they don't publish any negative reviews at all. You've been warned folks, don't put up with it for as long as I did. I've attached my order history dating back 5 years and that's just the online orders to show how much I've dealt with this company (the cancelled order is because they didn't have my order in stock and were not expecting it for weeks despite it being available on the website for at least the remainder of that week that I know of).

So much the the price guarantee representation I thought - but if you scroll down from their promotional blurb it states 'Please know that from time to time there are prices that snowys.com.au are unable to match, in this case we will give you the best possible price we can.'

Obviously a 'Claytons' Price match - I suspect this type of misleading representation will fall short of Snowy's obligations under State or Federal Consumer law

same day I placed this order with you I ordered some things from two 4WD equipment suppliers. I had to chase both up and neither have even shipped yet - I'll probably get this replacement before I get my orders from them. You really are an outstanding group of people."

On top of all that, their site is an amazing source of information around their products. The video reviews and setup/pack down videos are amazingly informative when deciding on a lot of camping gear.

Bought a sleeping bag online as I am out of state from their stores. It cost me $56 to return it. The customer service people were pretty uninterested in helping me. Ridiculous amount to pay in postage, especially when you can’t view item in the store. Won’t shop there again. I hate the chains but at least you don’t get this crap. They didn’t even respond to my email.

Australia to come to Tweed Heads area in northern NSW. The tracking showed my stretchers arrived at Sydney Unsorts at 6.53pm on the 12/12/24. So it is now the 17/12/24 and I am still waiting for my stretchers to arrive. I have tried contact snowys courier company several times to no avail. They won’t answer the phone their web chat service is constantly unavailable. Therefore I have 7 family members arriving today 18/12/24 and I am three beds short. Thanks Snowys your delivery service is rubbish. You really need to read the reviews that have been posted about your chosen courier service. Your lack of service in your promise of express 3-7 business days is disgraceful, you have managed to cause extra stress as we scramble to sort the extra beds out for our family. Snowys - so so slow to ship! – Soo slowww to ship, 5 days and my order still says 'partially ready' with no sign of it being shipped. Seriously! 3 items were all in stock when I ordered, I even called to check. Prices are ok, but good luck if want it within 10 days! My last order was the same. Never again! No free return for shoes – Just horrible how they handle returns for shoes. Not happy with the shoes size you ordered? No problem, just pay to return it. Unless you live close to their physical store, there’s no point buying shoes here if you don’t know your exact shoe size. Buy somewhere else to save you the headache.

response...not really our problem, we had delays in our warehouse so it got held up. I was told to read the T&Cs, and if you want a return, you work out how to get it back to us at your cost, bad luck. All it would have taken is a bit of understanding. that was more suited to our use. Warranty claims, (there has only been one), was dealt with promptly and without fuss. Replacement of a DOA rechargeable lantern. I always research prices. If the big A has it cheaper, Snowys can’t match, and I happen to be making the 3 hour round trip into Albury, of course I will buy from them. Nothing beats looking at items, and comparing this with that. But for online shopping, no-one beats Snowys.If operator error creeps in and I have trouble with something, there’s always been help at the end of the phone. Very happy with Snowys thus far.

Received a camp oven with 3 big scratches on it, company not wanting to refund it – I received a camp oven with 3 big scratches on it and Snowy's is repeatedly trying to offer a partial discount (in form of a partial refund) or a Snowy's voucher of half the amount I paid for it. for example saying a sleeping bag isn't as warm as what the manufacturer claims). They process and deliver the items quickly. I like their range of products.

I think they choose to only sell products that they like, so you know you're getting high quality or at least something that is worth the money for what it is, and can tell the people reviewing them actually understand the customer's needs (they go camping themselves).
