Absolutely appalling business after inquiring about a car advertised on carsales for over a week with a set price this dealer and I agreed on the advertised price and once I organised finance within the day they tell me the price increased now by over 3000 dollars. Buyer beware
Took my 2016 Hyundai Genesis for a stater relay recall. The blind side detection is not working either and asked if they could fix it. They told me that it was a Genesis and they did not have the diagnostic tools to fix it snd that I should take it Genesis. was. Hyundai and that Phil Gilbert could fix it a receive a a call for Phil Gilbert after Genesis HQ escalated the matter and said that they have located the problem and wanted $440 to remove the back bumper and if the hardware broken then it would cost strong $5k plus labour to replace. By this stage I am tired and upset cause clearly they did have the means to fix it so, when I asked the service guy why did you tell me this morning you there was no way you could fix it as it was Genesis and after I spent numerous hours trying to resolve the problem with Genesis you now can fix it ? The service gentleman says ‘ would would like me to say ‘? I said, the truth ! He then hands me my key and walks away. I then said is this the way you treat your customers. He responds, no ! only you ! Boom ! Still waiting for the dealer principle Mr Gilbert, to return my call.
AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. Phill Gilbert Toyota are happy to sell YOU a defective car. I have been trying to get this fixed since 9th October, but Phill Gilbert Toyota has been unwilling to help, repeatedly giving me the runaround instead of resolving the issue.
The salesperson Eddie showed no interest in assisting after the sale. The service manager [Name Removed] passed the responsibility to [Name Removed], who would have you believe the issue is “all in your head.” despite undeniable proof its faulty.
I work in the automotive trade and know what I am talking about. The vehicle is in breach of Australian Design Rule ADR 14/02. If anything obstructs the rearward visibility required under ADR 14/02, the vehicle is no longer compliant with the Design Rule.
After getting nowhere at the dealership level, I escalated the matter to Toyota Head Office. Even then, my concerns were supposedly “reviewed” without ever asking me for evidence and without arranging any inspection by Toyota or an authorised representative. That is not a review — it is dismissal.
This experience has completely destroyed my trust in Toyota. I purchased this vehicle in good faith, believing Toyota stood behind its products and customers.
The entire Toyota customer experience feels hollow and broken. When serious issues arise, responsibility is avoided rather than addressed. As a result of this experience, we will never purchase a Toyota again.
Avoid Phill Gilbert Toyota. Read the negative reviews — there are other people who have had similar issues to mine.

Thank you, Shaun and Johny, for your support throughout the process of purchasing our new Toyota Kluger with Phil Gilbert. It was a wonderful experience, and a special thanks to Shaun for your exceptional service. I bought my first car—a Toyota Yaris—with Phil Gilbert back in 2008, and after almost 17 years, I’m proud to have returned for another great experience. Stay away from dealer for service – Six months ago, I brought my Hyundai Tucson to Phil Gilbert Lidcombe for a simple oil change. That was all I requested—just an oil change. But the mechanic decided to go above and beyond by removing the wheels to inspect the brake pads and suspension. In the process, they scratched my wheels, leaving me to deal with the aftermath and touch up the… Read more

It feels like dealerships are staffed with inexperienced apprentices who lack the skill to perform a proper job. They charge exorbitant prices, yet their quality of work doesn’t even come close to what you’d get at an independent shop.
Take your car to an independent mechanic instead. They’re more experienced, charge reasonable prices, and can still source genuine manufacturer parts. Let me be clear: genuine parts are not exclusive to dealerships. Reserve trips to the dealer for warranty claims only. For everything else, trust an independent shop—you’ll get better service, better quality, and better value.
No excuse for ignorance and lazy attitude – Ordered a Staria Load premium in the colour of choice ( not white) paid deposit got colour noted on the contract, was told by manager emphatically the vehicle would be in 4 months later. the contract. What? They wanted me to accept the error. Fundamentally , how could they be so negligent and incompetent? They tried hard to discount and offer other incentives, but at the end of the day they should own their negligent mistake. They should give me a "written apology." How ridiculous. I went to them because they were emphatic all would be alright.... Lazy liars! Still offered no reason how this could happen.

I bought a brand-new 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and within a month it completely broke down with a “Check Hybrid System” error, leaving it undriveable. he replied “that’s not my problem.” For a new car purchase this is unacceptable. Terrible customer service, no support, and a faulty vehicle so soon after purchase — avoid this dealer and the Hyundai brand.
Go elsewhere - do yourself a favour – Dropped my car in to be serviced and found them slow, rude and showing attitude towards customers. I also went and looked at new vehicles to buy and not one of their staff approached and or offered any service whats so ever. With having bought around 20 vehicles from other dealers in the last 8 years for my business/s I thought maybe try another dealer. Well, not Phil Gilbert Croydon thats for sure. Never again. Worst service experience ever – Just picked up my car today from having a service at Phil Gilbert Croydon. Advised 3 things that needed attention. RESOLVED AND NOW THE BOOT WONT OPEN ALL THE WAY. Even though the website states 5:30pm close not one person available to answer my call at 4:50pm. What a [Content Removed] experience and unprofessional car dealership. Happy to take my money though... We have a GT line Sorento for a reason we pick up kids from sport 3 nights a week and tonight's no exception except we cant no go and collect the equipment that we need to and have to somehow organise someone else if possible or book an UBER to follow us. How do you service a vehicle, charge $2700, not fix the issues raised and add a few more....where's your quality control, or is that a new concept to you! Now another disruption or day off work to chase them up to complete the work they couldn't in the first place.

Car Service Post Warranty – My housemate bought a Hyundai i30 from Phil Gilbert's that's now out of warranty. She has still had the vehicle serviced annually by PG. Coolant Flush: This was near empty and, in the mechanic’s… Read more
opinion, should have been refilled as part of the last service. There is no itemization of this particular part receiving attention during the last service. 2. Oil: Instead of the vehicle having its oil change using dark green oil, light green had been used. 3. Air Conditioning Filter: This requires annual replacement. Though this was included in the triage schedule and paid for, the replacement appeared not to have been made. It may be common practice in dealership to provide inferior service to those of its vehicles that are now out of warranty.

Customer Service Levels dropped – I was running late as I had to talk my wife to pick up her car when I got a call from someone who more or less told me off for being late to my appointment. unprofessional.
When I arrived, numerous younger staff members were simply standing around talking amongst themselves instead of being ready to assist customers. After waiting several minutes, I had to signal one of them, who then very nonchalantly strolled into the office instead of promptly helping me.
Even after that, no one came out to greet me or check me in for 10 minutes. I finally had to go into the office myself, where I found the staff continuing to congregate and chat rather than tending to customers. At this point, their total lack of attentiveness and poor customer service was unacceptable.
I ended up just leaving without being assisted at all. For a company I have supported for so long, this level of apathy and disorganization from the staff was extremely frustrating. What previously seemed like a well-run operation has clearly gone downhill.
Unless there is a course correction regarding training staff on prompt, professional service, I cannot recommend Phil Gilbert Croydon. There are plenty of other automotive service centers that actually make customers their priority instead of leaving them feeling ignored and wasting their time.
We're sorry to hear about your experience. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.

PHIL GILBERT HYUNDI ... we asked his dealer for help, specifically the dealer the car was purchased from initially. To our surprise, they were, as at today, unwilling to help. As nice as the girl who served me was, we were left feeling unresolved and dejected. They indicated that they could not book my car in for a 'DIAGNOSTIC' as they termed it, before 28th June 2023 because of the 'back log' they are currently experiencing...... Seriously ?????
Incidentally, the end of June is not the date they intend to repair it, that's just the date they are open to looking at it. After it is assessed, we were told, it would then need to be booked in for a 'REPAIR' at a later date. So, the resolve for the team at Phil Gilbert was.... Just wait 3 months and we will see if we can help you. At least try and refer me somewhere else if you are understaffed??? Nope. Too sad too bad was the feeling we were left with at the end of the call.
We were pretty shocked and appalled and honestly, very disappointed. The team at good ol' Phil Gilbert were more than happy to go out of their way, before we handed over $36 000, to accommodate our needs.... but now they have the sale, they are dismissive and extremely unreasonable to expect us to not drive our car for a minimum of 3 months. That's a quarter of the rego unusable!!!
They could not even suggest an alternative pathway for me, for example, perhaps another dealership? No, we are not aligned, I can't help you there. What about a local mechanic? Well your warranty might be affected in that case. I even revealed that I had a disability and rely on my car for my accommodation, care and medical needs, as I live alone and need to travel to medical professionals twice weekly.
Anyway, I'm not whinging, just warning and urging you all to take caution....If you are in the market for a new Hyundi....DO NOT PURCHASE FROM Phil Gilbert at Lidcombe or Croydon, as the follow up care is atrocious. When I bought my car, they did not have the weather shields in stock so asked me to return once I picked up my car to have them fitted. They have rattled non stop and also need repair.
Incidentally, I called two other dealerships in the Sydney area after I got off the phone to Phil Gilbert and they were equally benign. Arncliffe and Liverppol are no go zones as well, in my view. I finally found the response I deserved in Chatswood Hyundi, my 3rd attempt. They were welcoming happy and warm in their demeanor and booked me in straight away.... the young lady in the service department could not help me enough...and I am taking my car in to be assessed this Tuesday???? They may not be able to fix it or help me, but atleast they tried.
