I had a very disappointing experience with China Southern Airlines and would not recommend them. After the airline lost my luggage, I had to purchase essential items while overseas. When I submitted a reimbursement claim, it was denied. Even more concerning, I was sent the personal details of a different passenger and told that a refund had… Read more

already been processed to them. When I pointed out that this was not me, I was told that since the money had already been issued on their end, they would not reimburse me, essentially making their mistake my responsibility.

This raises serious concerns not only about customer service, but also about data privacy and how passenger information is handled.

Onboard, the seats were uncomfortable and the food was tasted highly processed and lacked quality.

Overall, this experience was frustrating and unacceptable. I would strongly caution others before choosing to fly with China Southern Airlines.

I have flown China Southern several times between Brisbane Australia and Guangzhaou en route to other places. I fly economy and have been generally satisfied with the service. I am 186cm so seat pitch is important. The seats have adequate space in my experience. The food is a bit hit/miss. Sometimes good. My last overnight flight home was… Read more

disturbing. At ~3AM I was dozing when a senior female flight attendant woke me to do a questionnaire? I sleepily answered some personal questions including date of birth. When fully awake I asked what it is for. She replied to join me onto an online club. Astonished, I asked that the details be removed from her tablet.Movies are ok.

Just finished an Australian Trip a Deal holiday. 4 flights with China Southern, 2 international and 2 domestic. Flights were on time and safe. Always flown with Qantas and Emirates and didn't understand why people give airline food a bad time. I now understand. Food was hot and filling but I'll leave it there. Snacks and drinks outside of food… Read more

they damaged too much my luggage – China Southern Airlines destroyed my luggage, tore and bent the wheel, my suitcase was new and now it is trash. Do not book with this airline! The cheap price they originally charge is not worth the shocking ordeal they put you through. I booked and paid for a return flight from Brisbane to Guangzhou. My flight over was fine, but when I went to the airport for my return flight, they told me my travel agent had cancelled the ticket, which they had not. It… Read more

took me months to find out that China Southern airlines actually cancelled the ticket and then recharged me 5700 RMB to buy another ticket, so I could get back home to Australia. I have been fighting with them for five months now. They have offered me a partial refund of only half, but I’m still fighting for the full refund. Do not fly with them!!

never really heard of China Southern airlines before so I was quite hesitant to fly with them after reading many mixed reviews, however I decided to go with them due to the price. that were free of charge just made it that bit better, there was a tv on each chair, we received food, a blanket and also toiletries bag as it was a night flight. Would I use them again to fly, most definitely. All airlines can have issues from time to time even the most well known ones and people usually only write the bad experience generally nit the good. I highly recommend this airline as I used them twice over my whole trip and both times were great!

Exceeded my expectations. Flew Brisbane to Tokyo Haneda via Guangzhou in late Feb. Flights were on time except our return to Brisbane which was delayed due to the cyclone and we were offered a complimentary very nice hotel room. Food was plentiful. Stewardess's were friendly. Premium economy to and from different cities in China. Safety is not an issue with Chinese airlines; service was attentive and typical of this industry, and the price was reasonable. weather when serving drinks. Three things I didn’t like: (1) Premium economy had fixed armrests, which meant the arms could not be lifted to join two or more seats together. (2) The food was simply mediocre — particularly on the flight out of Guangzhou, the capital of Cantonese cuisine, which was really disappointing. (3) In contrast with their premium economy service a few years back when I flew to the EU, the air hostesses disappeared after the lights were dimmed. On the outgoing flight, I woke to see a gentleman going through different empty seats and sampling bottled water from those seats — for a while, I really thought it was a thief. Would I fly with them in the future? If the price is right.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the experience I encountered on my recent flight from Melbourne to Lahore on December 10th. Although all passport details were correct, this discrepancy… Read more

prevented her from boarding. Despite multiple attempts to seek assistance from your staff at the counter, we received no help. Efforts to reach your helpline were also unsuccessful, as no support was available despite the helpline being advertised as 24/7.

What made this situation even more distressing was that the purpose of our travel was to visit my mother, who is a cancer patient. This added an immense emotional burden, as we were already deeply upset and anxious about her health. The distress caused by this travel disruption has been profound, affecting not just me, but also my wife and children, who are equally upset. the entire cost of our tickets, exceeding $6,000, was wasted, and our plans were completely ruined. This experience has been deeply disappointing and emotionally taxing.

Review: China Southern Business Class (Australia–UK Return) Rating: 2.5/5 I recently flew China Southern Business Class from Australia to the UK and back. Overall, it was a mixed experience — some strong points, but also several surprising shortcomings. ⸻ The Positives: Efficient Ground Services Business class check-in was quick and smooth.… Read more

Priority boarding and security fast-track vouchers were provided, which helped speed up the airport process significantly.

Modern Aircraft & Flatbeds The planes were modern and well-maintained, with fully flat beds and the expected business class amenities. Nothing felt outdated or worn.

Transit Hotel in China With a layover of over 10 hours in China, I was put up in a hotel. The hotel was excellent — clean, comfortable, and very close to the terminal. Definitely a perk for long-haul travelers.

The Negatives:

Poor Seat Selection Despite better seats being available, I was assigned a rear middle-row seat at check-in in Australia. I expected a more proactive seat allocation process in business class — a simple improvement would be to ask passengers about their seating preferences.

Inadequate Meal Planning I don’t eat seafood, and unfortunately, most of the business class meals had seafood as the default option. There was typically only one non-seafood choice per meal, and on three occasions, that option had run out by the time they reached me. I ended up without a proper meal, and at one point had to request an economy meal — which I then ate in business class. That was honestly a low point.

Service Felt Inconsistent and Lacked Finesse The cabin crew seemed to be trying to deliver a business class experience, but the execution often fell short. • I was discouraged from using the business class restroom because my seat was toward the back. • When I asked for a top-up of champagne after being served half a glass on boarding, I was told — quite curtly — that it was a welcome drink only and I couldn’t have more. This didn’t align with what one would expect in a premium cabin.

Baggage Mishap Upon arrival in the UK, although I was the first off the plane, I was the last to leave the airport — one of my bags had been left behind in China. Worse, priority tags were never added, despite flying business class. I had to buy new clothes and reorganize my trip, which was both expensive and frustrating.

Final Thoughts

China Southern’s business class gets the basics right — flatbeds, decent planes, and some key perks like hotel stays during long layovers. However, attention to detail and quality of service were lacking, especially in comparison to other flagship carriers.

Would I fly them again? Maybe — but only if the price was significantly lower than competitors, and I’d be much more proactive about seat selection, meal requests, and baggage handling.

We booked a flight from Sydney to Europe with China Southern. They just cancelled our flight from Rome to Guangzhou so we can’t get back to Sydney. Would not recommend this airline. I had booked my flights with Flight Centre AU, the price was the most reasonable for me. Flying from Melbourne to the UK via Guangzhou. I had options for a long stopover, from between 3 - 13 hours in Guangzhou, which would change the pricing depending on stop, but opted for the more reasonable stop of 7 hours,… Read more

saved around $150 in comparison. Upon booking the flights, within a matter of weeks the flights had changed, flying from Guangzhou to London, with a 31 hour stopover! This was totally ridiculous and I had to contact flight centre to be able to rectify this, which took 4 weeks to get an answer from the airline may I add! Which ended being 4 weeks prior to departure. So the whole experience was extremely stressful.

My new flights included a 3 hour stopover in Guangzhou and then a flight to Beijing with another 2.5 hour stopover - original flight from Melbourne was the same. Which i was happy with.

Arriving at the airport on departure day I checked the flight board and saw the flight was delayed by 3 hours, now departing at 2:30am! Of course not much I could do about it, it happens. But thinking will i miss my connecting flight now? I was told no... I did.

Landed in Guangzhou, i rushed through the airport to get to the connecting gate but was told they couldn't find my flight. [Content Removed]! There were a number of people missing different flights as well, but they all had information given to them, except me. Unfortunately not many staff spoke English so it was difficult to communicate with anyone about it, i was just told to sit and wait, which took over an hour. My flight was changed to the next day, the original flight they wanted me to take after the first change, so 31 hours later, but they offered a hotel stay with meals, but again broken English is hard to work out where and who to speak to for this. And this was even worse at the hotel where the staff did not speak 1 word of English! Thankfully google translate saved the day! Rest of the trip went smoothly at least, I'm glad i wasnt travelling with the kids!

Overall, a stressful experience and caused some very discomforting medical problems.

Flight was fine, airline staff were decent enough as they usually are. Just the whole experience has left a sour taste in my mouth (including blood from stress) so I won't be using them again.

I think the airline should re-word its statement about carrying snowsports equipment as general luggage. Unless you travel first class, the total dimensions for length + width + depth must be maximum 203cm and there is no snowboard or ski bag that small. Despite my travel agent and I checking, we missed this and it cost me $US170 in excess luggage applied at departure. Show details

They then changed the story saying their staff have never taken or misplaced my items. At each follow - up, they pretended previous conversations had never occurred. They have never apologised for the obvious misconduct.

The food is TERRIBLE, actually inedible for some of it and the rest gave us indigestion. very strange for a country with fabulous cuisine!
