Faulty units – Don't buy a TomTom, These units have battery problems which are well documented and even getting a replacement unit will fail in a short time. Just do a google search. I took my unit back and it was replaced but that failed within a few weeks. In short - buy a Garmin. Looks good Battery problems that TomTom know about.
Tomtom 1050 was terrible – We paid top dollar for this shite - never again. From Dick Smith. When the battery died after a few weeks we returned it and waited months for it to be "repaired" After months they gave us a 'new' one - it too is rubbish! The battery will not charge/hold charge and the machine is useless as it must always be plugged in, and takes ages to fire up Buy another brand - not tomtom from dickdick

gave me a reference number to go back to the store and exchange my devise.
Hope this helps prospective buyers. This GPS is quality...In it build, its design and magnetic mount system. I have had many other brands and apart from the Garmin ( which feels just as good as the GO 1050) there is no other. The menu and phone connection i find excellent. I am totally happy with the gps. There are problems at the moment.
1) Do not connect your new GO 1050 to the internet as stated otherwise you will loose your pre loaded speed camera alerts.
2) Its obvious that tomtom released this a bit early(maybe for Christmas)
3) You have to not plug your tomtom into your computer and receive the latest map to avoid loosing speed and red light camera alerts before you call their customer service number to find out if the problem has been fixed.
