Hello everyone, I would like to share my detailed experience with GWM. I purchased a HAVAL H6 Hybrid in 2023 from GWM kedron , Brisbane, and unfortunately, it has been a very disappointing journey. I have experienced multiple serious issues, including hybrid system battery failure where the car completely stopped and wouldn’t start, wipers failing… Read more

three times (once during heavy rain, which was very dangerous), transmission faults, and an extremely noisy AC compressor that has already been replaced once and is now failing again.

In addition, the windshield had to be removed twice, and several other issues have occurred more than once. What is even worse is the customer service. Communication is extremely poor, with delayed or no responses despite multiple emails and calls. I am still waiting for approval for my AC compressor and transmission repairs, even though the compressor is under warranty.

I am not alone—several of my friends who own the same car have faced similar problems, often around the same mileage. This clearly indicates a possible manufacturing fault, yet there has been no recall or proper action from GWM.

Overall, this has been a very frustrating and stressful experience. I strongly recommend doing thorough research and reading customer reviews before considering buying a GWM vehicle. Thanks

Air Conditioning broke, spent weeks in the shop trying to sort out the problem. Intermittent so the Dealer had a hard time fixing it. LCD screen often showed errors. returning to multiple dealers (frustrated with 1 dealer so go to another dealer to try and get help). Spent many, many hours trying to get this brand new car to be reliable. Gave up after 14 months and lost 30k on this piece of garbage. Will NEVER recommend or buy another Haval, ever!

Disappointing Experience – Avoid the Haval H6 I purchased my Haval H6 in June last year and honestly regret the decision. Since owning the car, one of the brake discs has already rusted, and there was a water leak in the boot—not what you’d expect from a fairly new vehicle. The worst part has been dealing with the warranty/service department. Or… Read more

rather, trying to deal with them. It’s been four months since the issues started and I’m still getting nowhere. Reaching someone is next to impossible. If you don’t believe me, try calling them yourself—if you manage to speak to someone, congratulations, you got lucky.

Overall, the quality of the car has been underwhelming, and the customer service is downright rubbish. I wouldn’t recommend this car to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere.

Haval H6 Ultra - Don’t Buy this Car it’s Dangerous – Do not buy this Car it is dangerous. The system has not been tested correctly as the “intelligent” Emergency Lane Keeping system activates out of the blue & with no need, pulling the steering wheel to one side. I have had this occur where the vehicle has been pulled towards another vehicle & I have had to fight the car to avoid an accident. … Read more

This is a new 2024 Haval Ultra. I’m currently working on getting my money back including starting legal proceedings. I’m also working towards notifying as many as I can to ensure a recall occurs before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Google ELK Haval issues & you can find videos on the issue that others are also trying to fight.

Hopefully I have saved you from the pain I am currently experiencing.

Luxury on a budget – This car has all the bells and whistles. Very smooth to drive and nice quality Wireless Charging dock is a god send Cons: when driving with adaptive cruise control on, it can brake abruptly if there is a gap in the reflective lines on the road or if going around corners. Haval fixed this issues for me to some degree during a service. Heated/… Read more

ventilated seats/ ventilated seats seem to make you sweat more? I live in tropical Queensland and when I turn the ventilated seats on in summer it seems to make it worse. Other passengers have commented the same. Also the setting seem to go back to factory mode everytime you switch the car off. Meaning you have to go and turn it on each time you start the car. I would rather it remembered what selection I had it on each time.

Abit of lag in acceleration.

I did have a knock in the suspension that turned out to be a bolt loose. Thankfully this was covered under insurance as haval would have charged me $300+ to tighten it.

Other than the faults listed above I am very happy with my purchase. Quality of interior is very nice. Paint job seems to be better than my hilux.

Solid car but not without its faults – Firstly the good - the car looks sharp. Good lines with nice curves and some lovely small touches, like the lights on the dashboard, light strip (a la Porsche Cayenne) on the rear - not to mention the long sun roof and dual screens up front. It is also quite nice to drive and feels solid and safe. Now the not so good - the cruise control doesn't… Read more

like corners and breaks hard for anything more than a gentle curve. The car phone also gets a lot of comments about poor call quality and this seems to get a gently denial from the service center. Lastly when changing gears there is a definite lag before you can touch the accelerator - I have had multiple vaguely embarrassing over revving moments when I forget to count to three before engaging throttle when switching from reverse to drive or vice versa! Overall this is a solid and sturdy vehicle with some very good looks - there are just a few frustrations that take the shine off what could be a truly great SUV.

An easy buy but Haval needs to fix AAC as a matter of urgency – I've now had my burgundy Haval Vanta 4WD ($44,485 on road) for 2 weeks and have managed 2,5000km regional (SA) just enjoying a drive around in it. It replaced my Jeep Grand Cherokee which is a similar sized medium SUV (although vastly different motors). My search for a new car took 3 months and after viewing hundreds of second hand 4WD with 100k… Read more ·  3

on the clock for $35k+, I finally settled for the extra coin and went brand new with the Haval.

It's a top of the line Vanta (albeit, that's $1000 extra for $5 worth of black paint), on road for less than $45k with 7 year unlimited km warranty and fixed prices servicing. It sold me.

With a sunroof that the kids absolutely love, black trim, nice style, good economy, good ride, tonnes of options and a 5 star ANCAP rating, it's a hard car to not seriously consider.

(Note that there are a few seriously over the top complaints to be found on the internet, some likely faked, are little more than xenophobic, bordering on racism attacks on 'Chinese'. It's a sad indictment of the times we live in. Keep in mind China is a 3000 year old civilisation capable of nuclear weapons, space flight and the finest of arts. I also heard someone say recently that GWM has some 18,000 engineers. In my opinion, if a good car, comparable to what Europe could make, at half the price, can't be made by China, it can't be made.)

So here is a list of a few things found thus far...

To begin, I'll address a couple of common complaints I read about before buying.

- Sound system. I think this is quite OK. Turn off DTS and use the EQ for bass, treble and mid adjustments. - BT mic for phone. I shouted first time after reading complaints, didn't need to. Heard fine, while driving. - Touchy throttle. This is true but, with experience, easy to get used to. Light feet saves fuel in any case. - Turbo lag when overtaking. It's minor and I'm surprised people complain. It's a turbo. - Lack of performance. Absolute rubbish this one. When this thing gets up, for its size, it gets up. - Gearbox clunk. Had this happen a couple of times now, very minor. Always at low speed taking off at an angle. Given this an 4WD model, it may be the drive unit adjusting. Not concerned given it's a 7 year warranty and servicing will be done by an dedicated Haval dealer. - I've seen reviews where some say the ride is a bit spongy, some too tight and it suffers road noise, which was partly true. But my tyre pressures were too high, with 42psi cold. Adjusted to 34psi, which the TPMS 'allows', modified noise and ride appreciately. Can talk normally at 110km/hr with no issues. - TPMS not resetting. It does take a while but had no issues. Warnings about low pressure a bit weird though. Had warning for tyre at 32psi but not for 31psi. - UI confusing? Not at all. Like all technologies, when something is new, you have to learn it. After 2 weeks I could write the manual from memory. - Fuel consumption. I'm mixed on this. On the highway, although new, I'm down to 7.2km/100. Around town, with 2 mild hills this has spiked at 15km/100, abeit temporarily. However, compared to Jeep (with 4l naturally aspirated petrol) at 15km+ on the highway, the Haval will blow this away given we're almost exclusively country driving. *********************************** **AN IMPORTANT COMPLAINT** - The adaptive cruise control (ACC) is *dangerous* in my view with the car suddenly slowing in bends at 110km/h, even braking at that speed down to as low as 85km in one instance. The shift in inertia (particuarly when steering is in light mode) can throw you, which is one problem, having a vehicle almost hit you from behind due to the rapidity of speed reduction is another. Both are real concerns.

Yes, it's avoidable by picking up the throttle before the bend (CC will go grey to show you've got the revs) but this completely negates the idea of cruise control, particularly on long drives. Haval need to provide a way to turn this 'safety feature' off. I've heard people say Haval can't because it's 'integrated' but this is rubbish. As a coder, if something can be turned on, it can also be turned off. It's that simple. Presumably, since my car is 2 weeks old, any 'upgrade' (version 006) has been done so don't expect a fix being told that's all it needs at this time.

HAVAL, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS. ***********************************

My own (minor) complaints so far.

- I drive a lot at night and roos are a problem. High beam is atrocious and first task has been to organise a nudge bar and driving lights. Adjustment may help given I noticed I was koala spotting in the left hand trees last time I drove at night, so I'll be investigating this soon. - Additionally, during night driving I prefer a very dark interior. In my Jeep I can turn down dash lights to almost non-existent. In the Haval, settings are in negative and it's still way too bright. Centre screen has an off switch but it doesn't go off off, just to a (too bright) status screen. - Trip meter. Knowing my average and instant fuel consumption is fine but I want to be able to set a tripmeter and measure how far a tank gets. Pen & paper are needed here, literally. The Trip A option resets each drive and Trip B is total with averages. - No seat tilt. It's taken a while to get my seat set for long distance driving and without tilt, finding the perfect setting is tricky. It's not bad though but a 5000k round trip to Perth in the New Year might change my mind. - Engine temperature gauge. A little bar does nothing for me. In a place where temps can get to 48c, I want to know the degrees to *avoid* overheating if driving a certain way, not wait for a warning and have to stop in the middle of nowhere (if it's 46c for example.)

All in all, this is a very good car and I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and I think you will be too. Take some of the complaints with a pinch of salt and above all, when looking at some of the reviews, measures like 0-100 in 8 seconds and how fast it turns into corners is NOT how you measure a mid-sized family SUV, although the Haval does both reasonably well. The 'sports' in SUV doesn't necessarily mean Formula 1, it could mean water ballet :)

For now, this is my list. I'll try to come back and update this as my time with 'AVA' (my wife chose that, not me) progresses. Given GWM is relatively new in Australia, a well grounded reputation will take awhile.

Thank you for reading.

(The image I have used from a dealer site is not my car but it is the exact same, including trim). (21/12/2002 - Minor typo update done)

speed considerably scaring the crap out if you. Also too much throttle on take off will cause the wheels to spin, I'm hoping the first set of tyre replacing will fix this. Apart from a few things I love it and will definitely replace it with another Haval hybrid. I sold my 10 month old Rav 4 to purchase this in Feb 23. The Haval I find has way more power from the 1.5 L turbo motor than the 2L Rav. I was a staunch Toyota man having owned 6 previously but I am very happy I switched to the Haval. The new range of Havals are very much improved over the first lot we seen enter Australia years ago. Would even look at a Cherry model these new imports are definitely worth a closer look.

On a trip to Tazzie, we had a H6 as a hire car. It was fine around the urban roads; once you get used to the European column switch gear (indicator on the left of the steering column). INTERIOR:- The seats were comfy enough. The layout and design were pleasant. INFOTAINMENT/SATNAV:- It was a nightmare. Difficult to connect and kept blacking out… Read more

while trying to connect. Poor software IMHO. The nav is Apple Car Play or Andriod Auto, both of which require a USB cable into a dodgy USB port on the passenger side. There's another USB port on the drivers side, but its only for device charging. Is it really so hard for the Chinese to set up the car for a RHD market? SYSTEM SETTINGS:- On country roads, the "ELK Activated" (emergency lane keeping) chime would constantly be going off even when you are IN the lane and was so annoying. The only way to cancel it was setting it to "off" after every re-start. However, because of Aust Standards, it can not be turned off permanently. There are no stand-alone controls for the AC and fan. You have to drill down through the settings on the touch screen to find the adjustments. DRIVING:- Mostly like any other car with normal wind and road noise. Suspension was OK. Not brilliant or outstanding. Just ok. It felt like it was set up for city driving only. GEARBOX:- In normal driving mode, it was a normal automatic gearbox. No complaints. However, on the steep road down from Mt Wellington, I selected manual mode in the gearbox. The car would not hold 2nd gear and kept selecting higher gears. It did this at all the wrong times, like on a hairpin bend when you need it to hold the gear it would unexpectedly shift to third. Dangerous....! FIT AND FINISH:- It was not as bad as i thought it would be. It was reasonable, but for a relatively young car however, the drivers floor carpet was worn out.! Engine was reasonable, but the "fly by wire" throttle response was touchy. It had a "2 stroke" style power band. So keeping a steady throttle at low speeds was difficult. VALUE FOR MONEY:- Now, to the big question. Would I buy one with my money? Not a chance in hell...! It may be cheap, but its cheap for a reason. The functionality and quality is not up to the standard you would expect from a modern car, even in this price bracket. It's ok as a rental thrash-about, but that's it. Seeing as we can't buy an Australian car anymore, you would be better of with a Japanese, European or Korean car. I have a 60yo Holden which is still in excellent condition and still drives beautifully. I'd like to see one of these "throw away" cars last that long. Thank you, but no. I have been sceptical of Chinese cars since they started selling in Australia. This just confirmed my suspicions. I'll stick to my old 2012 Toyota Prado thanks....

Keyless entry, works when it feel like it, guarantee it won’t work when it’s raining. Lane keep - is aggressive and isn’t cancelling when indicating to change lane so pulls like an Ox.

Push Start, out of every 10 starts 2 of them the car acts like it has a flat battery. All screen go black and the key does not register.

Gear selector wheel, an absolute pain.

Auto wiper - they are quite unsure when it is raining, so I stick them on constant manually.

Aircon - doesn’t get cold compared to other cars I have.

E- break - sticks on, a lot

Tyre Wear - awful, 21000k front left already gone (I drive like your gran)

Fuel economy- seems to be getting worse.

Very laggy Engine, can sit at a junction for a good 3 or 4 seconds with foot flat on the floor and then it will scream into life.

Auto rear boot door - no sensors Multiple times the boot has closed on me, really dangerous, easily cause damage…luckily I have the speed of a ninja.

Haval is not committed to a quality product – At 20k a hole in the carpet matt under the driver's foot appeared. The service centre staff said that this happens to all H6 cars. roads when it comes to cruise control. Features like emergency lane keeping which in my own personal opinion can be quite challenging especially with the cruise control can tend to create problems when traveling on open roads it will reduce itself to low low speeds that are not even the speed limit particularly on bends this can cause a lot of problems for others traveling behind you. Another issue is all the beeping. This can become very annoying on long trips away and after again speaking with other owners they also conclude those very same issues. I have been told this can only be cancelled out each time you turn the car on. It would be nice if the dealership had the ability to delete these from the intelligent driving system. If anyone has recommendations on if it is possible to remove - please share. Other than that I have found the Haval H6 a good wagon to drive without any mechanical problems or failures. If you want a lot of technology then this is the car for you. I do get a bit frustrated with the middle gear console unit sometimes thinking you are in D but really still in R, but this is user issue and still getting used to. Otherwise everything else inside is fine again packed with features that are amazingly thorough and thought out.

Car isn’t even 2 years old and wish I read reviews below before purchasing our Haval. What’s the point in a 7 year warranty! Show details

Engine replacement 25,000km – Oil pump failed and engine destroyed. Only serviced via dealership. Only 25,000km on engine. Haval customer service non existent. No phone number to call. I emailed 4 times with no reply just automated reply 3 business days. Was left without vehicle whilst getting repaired as no one replies to emails or have a contact number. Is it worth the cheap price on long run? Show details
