bottom load which I find very useful. Still getting used to the cutlery tray which is a bit different to my old Miele. I haven't used the night setting yet but at present have need to do as its its very quite on any other setting. It has very little plastic in it, wire instead which is also a plus. So far very happy with the machine and the installer was very nice, and did the job quickly without any drama.
