slick salesmen in BMW's don't sell houses - houses sell houses. In the now distant past, real estate agents would drive you around to look at houses and spend time discussing properties etc. Nowadays sales agents do very little apart from standing at the door of an open house ushering people through - usually for a maximum 30 minutes. Too bad if you can't make the advertised time for an open house. We were nervous at first when selling our first property, but got a lot of help from PropertyNow who were always on hand to help. The process is so simple and when showing the property, buyers seem to appreciate being able to ask the actual owner relevant questions. And there is nothing complex about processing a sale, just a matter of accepting an offer then exchanging conveyancer details - the conveyancers do the rest. There are of course other private sales agents out there, but we have found PropertyNow to be the best by far. Always available to provide advice and assistance.

One thing I would do differently - I spent a lot of time making a nice looking floor plan - it turns out they have a fairly inexpensive service to do that for you.

For those wondering if selling without an agent is for you - you need to take decent photos, write some half-decent copy for the ad and open the house for people when they come to inspect. That's basically what you're paying the agent for. It's not very difficult, and PropertyNow can help you with the first two, although I simply did it all myself. You should also have a realistic idea of how much you're asking, and what you're prepared to accept, and then be ready to negotiate with purchasers. If you're clear on what you want, the negotiating isn't difficult either.

disappointed that as someone who suffers from a disability (with current limited strength and mobility) I rang each business asking for more details and it was never conveyed that the sign was not installed for me since I remember mentioning I do not have the capacity to do so myself. The sign has never been used and was left on my doorstep (never rang my doorbell - I was home all day) and found it blowing down the street and had a large crease in the sign due to how it was just dumped on delivery. Very disappointing since the customer service person never asked for a photo to follow up despite paying almost $300 for the sign and never once offered any resolution besides getting a tradesman to install the damaged sign. I will likely use Buy My Place next time around since I have no doubt in my ability but the service and professionalism of this firm really left a lot to be desired.

Great to use, for under $1000! Real estate agents wanted $1300-$2000 just to advertise on RealEstate.com. Fill in the information on the Property Now site and the info automatically transfers to real-estate.com and Domain. Edit the advert any time. Very average, not a great experience as a buyer – I was interested in buying a property, the person I spoke to was pleasant enough but did not sound confident taking the call, they cut me off and didn't appear to be listening to what I was saying. They never identified who they worked for so I was confused where they actually fit into the picture, their language was very different to a real estate agent and they seemed to be making decisions on behalf of the seller without checking with them. In the end the story changed and it fell through. We've bought and sold a few properties over the years so have a good understanding how this should have worked. I'm sure the buyer is happy the property sold however our circumstances are a little different and we'd have happily paid $20k or $30k over the sold price, I'm not confident the seller was told how keen we were to proceed.

Misleading information on the Verification Process – Totally wasted my time setting up on this website, only to be told that they wouldn't let the listing go live due to not providing a drivers Licence. The website states they need to verify you with photo ID. I provided my photo ID in the form of a working with children check ID card. Licence photo ID. This was never mentioned on their website and should be mentioned. What if you don't have a drivers Licence or just don't want to provide that information? When questioned as to why only a drivers Licence is acceptable, rather than a verifiable working with children check photo ID, they could not provide any logical reason, other than to say I could have stolen the working with children check ID. Well a Licence could also be stolen right? Nor could they tell me what database they go to verify you. Nor could they say who has access to your drivers Licence details. Medicare was also mentioned as ID...well it doesn't have a photo does it? The only reason they kept given me was that it was required because of fraud....hello they already have your proof that you own the property, they have your name, address and card details, and verifiable photo ID. Insisting on a drivers Licence is totally unnecessary when you could be the one that's defrauded.

Absolute Shockers – I enquired about a home open in Maylands. I was emailed an evening appointment time. I drove all the way from Mandurah to view the property. Waited for 10 mins past opening time with a group of another 6 persons. When we rang the agent we were told the property had already been sold, that there had been an admin error. The agent did not at any stage offer any apologies.

A consistent and reliable service. I have been using Property Now to lease my rental properties for years. It's easy to use by the landlord as well as by the prospective tenant.
