execution. As I live interstate, we had limited time to organise everything while Mum was out of the house and in Aged Care Respite following a fall in December 2023. The first week of January is not usually a good time to find someone willing to come out and look at any job, let alone a complex one like Mum’s kitchen. However Beth Paron, a Smith and Smith designer, made time and after an initial inspection, brought in builder John Adams. They were both fantastic. They discussed the particular construction challenges, were realistic and careful not to over promise, but positive in their creative approach. Once John was satisfied that the work could be done structurally, Beth went ahead with working up a design. Apart from ‘old brick house with heritage overlay’ construction challenges, there were budget constraints, and the design had to be familiar enough and practical enough for my elderly mother to feel comfortable using it. Beth excelled on all design counts, finding aesthetically pleasing but creative and practical solutions to meet our brief. She made the slightly scary daunting task ahead of us, feel do-able. We returned to Brisbane knowing we were in good hands. Finessing of the design happened over Zoom. Builder John Adams and his offsider Tim Cook were amazing. The strip out and prep for the new kitchen was a huge job. I have never seen people work so hard, and always pleasant and professional. When the tiler injured his back and was unable to do the extensive backsplash, Tim Cook and John Adams stepped in and completed the job. It was fiddly and the end result was so impressive, complete with mitred edges around the old stove recess. Everyone who worked on the kitchen was wonderful. Smith and Smith were always responsive to our time constraints and juggled contractors to get the job completed in time for Mum to move home after a lengthy convalescence. (Mum ended up staying where she was, but that’s another story.) Re the budget, some jobs, e.g. electrical, plumbing and plastering, were bigger than the initial estimate, but that is to be expected in an older house. There were a couple of minor defects noticed after installation of cabinetry. Randall and Warwick Tidyman from Smith and Smith rectified these very quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. In summary, Smith and Smith Kitchens were excellent in all respects- design, execution and management of the process. I can recommend them without hesitation.

removed the old kitchen and fixed up a few legacy problems, providing a good space to install the new kitchen. After that, the various tradesmen started coming in to do their bit. Smith & Smith has really good tradesmen, who do their work with pride and attention to detail. Their partner companies (eg the splashback supplier, the benchtop supplier) have the same mindset.

Unfortunately, everything ground to a halt after a week. The project manager hadn’t arranged for the right things to happen in sequence, and work simply stopped. Nothing was getting done, and we were stuck without a kitchen. The project manager was uncontactable, and didn’t respond to our emails asking when work would re-start. We spent nearly 3 weeks eating takeaway food and washing our dishes in the bathtub.

Finally we contacted Laly, who managed to get the project re-started. Without her help, who knows what would have happened, because nobody else at the company responded to our emails.

more than we had expected, and no post installation follow up ( weeks later ) to finalise the experience and gauge our satisfaction.

Certainly recommend them, however our experience was just not as polished as hoped.

Smith & Smith – Smith & Smith installed our kitchen and laundry in a vey organised, professional manner. From our initial consultation with Beth our designer, to the installation, our experience was fantastic. Everyone was a delight to work with and nothing was too much trouble. Poor after sales service – My kitchen was installed some years ago and overall, I'm happy with the quality. BUT, after sales service to attend to some minor problems was non-existent! Despite numerous calls the service department simply could not be bothered contacting me. I would hesitate to recommend them in future. Mr Smith - you need to greatly improve in this area as this has left a very bad taste in the mouth of a formerly-happy customer.

Had hoped for better – It’s the finer details that can make a big difference and unfortunately for us, this is where our experience with Smith and Smith fell short. husband had to almost be a contortionist to be able to plug the fridge in, and still waiting after 4weeks for one missing handle. Plus a few more minor details that my husband and I are not that happy with, it’s taken a bit of shine away from having a new kitchen. I had hoped that by using a company with a

Smith and Smith longevity, these sorts of issues wouldn’t have happened. No call back either after trying to get in touch about the handle, very frustrating.

No Caulk for you – I read all the glowing reviews and was left asking myself the question...what happened, unfortunately the bitterness of poor service remains long after the installation has been completed. Points:

1) The designer did listen to what we wanted. Was professional and turned up on time, and unlike others, left her phone in the car (note to Rosemount!)

2) the cabinetry

Bad Points:

1) Poor communication between installation management, client and trades people. When you have the tradies ring you the client asking whats going on, it is worrisome.

2) The plumber didn't caulk the sink. We were told I will have someone call you...still waiting, I am left wondering how this affects the warranty.

3) The electrician couldn't wire a data point, in this day and age, very surprising.

4) No post installation call to ask how everything was.

I would strongly advise that if you use Smith and Smith, make sure you get everything confirmed in writing. As we had no after installation service, I cannot comment on this.

The quality of the cabinetry is fine and the installers were all competent, however, the process from strip out to finalisation took 51 days! The design process was difficult (perhaps it was just the particular designer assigned to me) and mistakes were made, most (not all) of which I fortunately picked up before it was too late. couple that I have resigned myself to living with. Their communication was also not great. I recommend you do your research and if you know what you want, Smith & Smith are okay - provided you use your tape measure and carefully check everything they do! if you want creative designers, who provide great service, rather than cabinet-makers, look further afield.

Sue from Smith & Smith understood what we were trying to achieve and designed a fantastic layout that made the best use of the available space. The final product is exactly what we had in mind. Highly recommend.

great quality and follow up service – We had this company install a new kitchen back 2019 there design and quality were second to none ,a faulty bracket on the top of slide out pantry broke in 2023(which they said has not happened before) The office and the installers were friendly,professional and efficient and fixed the problem swiftly .

A quality kitchen, professionally installed – I cannot sing the praises of Smith and Smith Kitchens highly enough! Our consultant Sue designed a fabulous and quality kitchen to suit our small space and when there was an unexpected issue with installation (as can happen), the team dealt with it in a timely and professional manner.

Very satisfied with my kitchen – Everyone who comes to my house now compliments my kitchen. I really enjoyed the design with S&S’ designer Laly and the result is unique while still practical. The only letdown was S&S’ project manager who wasn’t very responsive and pleasant to deal with. Other trades were great as well as S&S’ contractors. Great Service – The back up service I received today was superb. Thanks Athena and Randall. Athena in customer service dealt with my pantry door problem quickly and efficiently and Randall had fixed it within the hour due to a cancellation. What more can you ask? Smith & Smith have been a pleasure to deal with at every stage. My new kitchen , which was installed three years ago, looks great.

With all the stops and starts due to Covid-19, the installation staff (who were always very approachable) and trades people finally took away the very ordinary kitchen and efficiently installed the new one with nothing to call them back for. The tiler was so good at his job and the final finish is excellent. The actual pricing was very competitive.
