Awesome to drive car until the transmission goes, impossible to fix. It then it become a paper weight – 2 Months in shop, 5 used parts used from wreckers. Why because they could not get new parts anymore. Since then they will not touch Ford Mondeos anymore. In the end repair costing $4000 and they gave back car not working 100%. unreliable to drive anymore Ford will not repair transmission and only install new ones at a cost of $13000 plus labour costs .Stay clear

Best ever – Traded in an old BMW and paid $10k Australian in 2013. Lasted 10 years without a single fault. 2 batteries, tyres and servicing. Lent it out to a friend 6 months ago and the other week it stopped on him. Mechanic says engine is gone. Not sure exactly how but for 10 years of straight use without problem and high kms (plus I was not good with… Read more

servicing), this was the best car I have ever owned. Always intended to keep it as a spare when I bought another car 5 years ago, and said I would only get rid of it once it died. Well it time is up, but what a great car it was.

This is a gentle giant, Titanium TDi wagon. Drives well, economical, spacious and comfortable. Size is comparable to a Falcon. Luggage area greater than Holden. Ford dealer serviced yearly since new. No concerns at 90,000 + KMs. Love the diesel engine, just purrs on the highway. Melbourne Western Suburbs to Adelaide City centre, 2 pax plus… Read more

luggage, topped up at Horsham and refilled in Adelaide. Unfortunately, there is nothing out there to replace it, an SUV is not my scene. Not at all interested in electric cars or Chinese. Might have to be a Mazda 6 wagon.

Started out as great vehicle, but now – I purchased this car in February 2018. It had 22,000KM on it, and was 14 months old. When I purchased it everything was tight, no noises, no squeals, no complaints! Fast forward 14 months and it's now 2.5 years old and at 93,000, and I hate it. Pros - Pretty fuel efficient - Diesel - Decent enough Sound system - Selectable Driving modes -… Read more

Great LED headlights - Autonomous braking works well - Radar is good for long drives - Fairly Quiet most times - Loads of Features - Cool Ambient lighting - Electric Tailgate - When working - Rear Privacy Windows - Auto Dimming mirror - Electric Steering Column with memory

Cons - AC not cold - Unreliable - Expensive parts - Rubbish After sale Service - Quality Control Issues - Rattles - Not good for stop start traffic - Can sometimes be very laggy when taking off. - Becomes very slow, and unresponsive about 2000KMs before it's service - Ridiculously expensive service $425 for first 2 services, then $895 for 3rd..rinse repeat. - Proximity Keyless entry is a mixed bag of emotions. Works from time to time

We have continuously had the bolts for the side skirt replaced (they keep coming lose, and Ford charges $27 per bolt!) It sends a horrible rattle up the driver side door if left untreated, the AC compressor seized, left the car with Ford, told it would be in the next day - didn't arrive until a week later. The automatic rear tailgate regularly stops working, and has come out of alignment, despite being under new car warranty still, Ford refuse to fix it, despite assuring me they would when I got my AC fixed, the driver's seat and passengers seat now rattle like crazy and want me to pay $905 per seat BASE ONLY (a common issue found on many forums, Ford Also won't fix), the drivers display dash takes a good 30 seconds or more to come on at times, regularly throws faults on the dash about the lights not working, or hand brake needing servicing, the GPS is hopeless at its job, there's a clicking coming from under the car that Ford "cannot replicate" but yet 3 independent mechanics could, the auto highbeams are the most infuriating thing I've ever dealt with! Unlike most cars with auto highbeams where you push the leaver forward and the highbeams turn on and off as needed automatically, Ford's is totally automatic from the moment you turn the car on. The AC tends not to be very cold and my biggest bug bear is that the stop start turns off at the lights to keep powering the AC, but the compressor doesn't kick back in until you start driving again so it doesn't cool. I could keep listing things wrong with this car all day, but I guess you get what you pay for! I've attached a badge to the back and sides as a way of silent protest!

A slight update! From 2 stars down to one. Car is now at 99,500, I had the car in for a service with my independent mechanic where they brought up the fact that the transmission was leaking. Took it to Ford and sure enough it is leaking. They're fixing that issue tomorrow. They have also decided they're going to fix the drivers seat under warranty, so that is a little light at the end of the tunnel I wasn't expecting to see.

Great value for money, modern looks, lots of luxury features – We use this car as a daily driver for the school run, grocery shopping and going to work (20 mins each way). We only paid NZD 19,790 for a 2017 car with 69,000km; it had been a fleet car and done a lot of hot running. A few small stone chips on the bonnet/hood but nothing noticeable until up close. We were trading in a 2003 Ford Falcon BA so… Read more

any shift to a smaller engine was going to improve fuel efficiency. My wife and I decided EVs and hybrids were still too early in the product life cycle for us to adopt. Be warned that it requires petrol with octane rating greater than 95.

The Mondeo Trend is great value for money. Lots of features that would normally be expected in a luxury car came in our model, such as NZ GPS navigation, heated seats, proximity sensors, and lane change warnings.

All these gadgets can come at a cost. A friend of ours has a 2019 Ford Everest with the proximity sensors in the bumper (similar to the Mondeo). He says he only grazed a bollard and was up for a $5,000 repair as the entire bumper plus sensors needed replacement. Doubtless he has lost his no claims bonus!

The ride is assured and acceleration into traffic is effortless. A very quiet car.

I'd recommend reading the manual as there are lots of gadgets and warning lights and sounds to be aware of, otherwise they could be dangerous distractions when driving under certain conditions and situations.

The cabin size is in fact bigger than that of the Falcon so it is roomy. We were able to fit a full sized cello and its case in the boot. Our 17 year old son is 6'5" and can sit comfortably in all seats, including the driver's seat.

The driver's seat position can be recorded under 3 profiles and each can be selected with a touch of a button.

The Synch 3 infotainment system is easy to navigate and connected to all our family's Android phones without hesitation but the GPS maps are only updated when you have the car serviced at an authorized dealership.

My brother in law just bought a 2016 Audi A6 for NZD 30,000 and I know I got the better deal.

Highly recommended.

Updated 4 March 2023: Someone else liked our Mondeo too, and we made the mistake of leaving the keys in the car. A Newbie blunder as this is our first keyless ignition car. So, its been stolen. I know what a disaster. Insurance was supportive and we have replaced it with a 2019 Ford Mondeo Trend with only 16,000 km on the clock. NZD 24,985.

This time we got crisp white instead of silver. Still smelled new. Works fantastic. Only difference is the handbrake has swapped sides on the center console.

Very fuel efficent family car – I haved owned my 2010 mc mondeo diesel for 8.5yrs. Luckily powershift clutches were replaced under the remaining new car warranty by Ford at 50000kms 6mths after I bought the car. 150000klms now and no issues. Owners must keep in mind that gearbox is actually an automated manual so that bad driving habits that will kill a manuals clutch will kill… Read more

the powershift i.e edging forward in traffic or using throttle instead of brakes to hold the car on a hill for example. Also it is important that fluid and filter are changed every 60000klms in the gearbox and that correct ford spec engine oil is used in the engine that respects the DPF. DPF regens arent obvious only indication is that instantaneous fuel usage can double for a couple of minutes and the idle slightly rougher as it does its thing. Very fuel efficent and I have never used more than 6.3litres per 100klms even in city traffic. 5.2 highway so has a range of up to 1100klms on a tank. Very roomy and a boot bigger than many wagons. Relaxed highway cruising like a v8. Excellent handling and ride with acceptible road noise. Good quality paint and trim. No paint fading and seating material etc is extremely durable.

Best car I’ve driven or owned – I bought my Mondeo not long ago at 120k kms. After all the bad things japanese car lovers told me and advised on American car. I will tell you this: - Ford Mondeo beats all Japanese nonsense by miles. 1. Economic: 8,5L/100km city driving, much much much cheaper than my friend’s camry (10.2L/100km) 2. Power: my car is turbo charged,… Read more

overtaking is literally at ease.

3. Design: HELL YEAH! It looks so freaking goodcompare to others in the same class!

4. Safety: 5 stars, 6 airdbags, thick panels all around the car. You feel very safe and well protected.

5. Noise cancellation is superb, diesel but listening to music is such a pleasure with this car.

6. Practicality: my dad is 6’3. He said the car is ridiculously spacious. ;))

7. Interior finishes are much more appreciated, with many extra functionalities ( hill holder, cruise control, abs, sensors back and front...)

Final words, if you are young and looking for a first car, don’t go with japanese, imma tell you. The design and practicality of japanese craps are way too outdated! (No sensors even on 2012 models???? Wth)

Get ford mondeo I’m sure you’ll be impressed

Fantastic allrounder!!!!!!!!! – I bought the 2011 Mondeo Zetec 2.0 TDCI second hand in 2015 with 80,000km from the previous owner who purchased it new. She's now just covered over 400,000km !!! which was Au$3000, so I purchased a seal from ebay for 150 bucks and pulled the gearbox out myself, big job! but still going strong 100,000km on. I use the car to commute to work also tow a boat and a caravan. I have had a few engine check lights come on over the years, but just ignore them, and for the past 50,000km no check lights at all, so I would say an over sensitive computer/sensor is the issue there, don't waist money trying to fix it. All up a fantastic used car for the money at $11,000. I will be sad to see her go!!! Great on fuel, torquey engine, massive boot, looks good, pleasure to drive!

Brilliant car - crap transmission – 2011 Titanium TDCI hatch. Bought second hand with 230k on the clock. Got it RACV tested before purchase - was all clear. By the end of the diagnosis it was found that a part of the DSG clutch pack disintegrated.… Read more

Cost $4400 to fix by transmission specialist in Melbourne who does many of these repairs on Mondeos.

Has been faultless since having the repair done.

Is a brilliant car to drive, the diesel is a little noisy but less so than a Holden Cruze diesel I drove once. The electronic package is great, easily the best adaptive cruise control I've ever driven. Once drove from Colac to Traralgon without touching the accelerator or brake, in heavy traffic.

Excellent on fuel, I get 6L/100km on the highway and around 8L/100km running around town.

Flawed gearbox – If it wasn't for the gearbox I would be happy with this car, over 1100km range from 70l tank of diesel. 2014 mc tdi lx wagon with 85000 on the clock, still looks like new in engine compartment but just had major gearbox failure. with a dual clutch sports shift transmission as they are flawed, extremely complex and expensive to repair. The mechanic currently with the car has a Ford Kuga with 40000km also with a failed transmission. Now most likely scrap the car as I'm reluctant to waste more money and just accept the loss of probably over $12000 I think I'm off Fords for life after this experience.

So much better than I expected! – I bought a 2008 LX Ford Mondeo with 207000 km on it, and it has been amazing ever since. Built quality is surprisingly good as well. Rear-ended someone at 35kph once due to slipping on wet road with cheap tyre, absolutely no damage cosmetically at all.

Absolutely recommended as a first car, just make sure don't get the once with PowerShift transmission, those are utter pieces of crap, needs replacing every 100k at least and costs 5k for a second hand one.

I think it's a great buy, I bought a low millage 200k one and it's been very reliable, I had to change the thermostat however and it's was extremely hard work to change out, being under the inlet manifold.

Other then that negative I would be happy to recommend and you definitely should take one for a test drive if considering a car buy.

No SUV for me. A luxury sedan for me – This petrol engine Ford Mondeo ticks all of the boxes for me. Comfort with style and economy if driven sensibly. (Total average economy of 8.3 litres per 100 km since purchase over 1 year ago.) fragile and are often known to fail after 100,000kms.

I was quoted $4500 by a local trans specialist to get it repaired. All the transmission specialists that I spoke to told be that these gearboxes are very complicated and failed often.

The turbo diesel Mondeos are excellent cars to drive when they are working well. However in my opinion the risk of getting one with a gearbox that will fail far outweighs the benefits.

Buyer beware!!

really well through a band/great cornering - quiet for a diesel car, especially at highway speeds, pure joy to cruise at 110-120km/h - comfortable, especially the front seats - heaps of space in the boot

Not so good: - poor front visibility due to very wide front windscreen pillars; this is, in fact, the only real problem with this car, and it is a serious one - sits very low, doesn't like bumps (but it corners like it's on rails)

Best buy in its segment. Understated.
