easily scratched paint , there is no need to treat it with cotton gloves . Delivery was on time , confirmed and efficient , attention to detail and care in installation was exceptional . A minor issue within the first month was dealt with swiftly by the incredibly efficient and obliging office and service personnel , truly Speed Queen Australia chooses its staff well . At first I balked at the thought of spending twice as much as I paid for my first car on a washing machine. Not so now , it was money well spent on a solid reliable and more importantly repairable machine [ should it ever need ] that is easy to use and washes extremely well . After wrestling with European designed front loaders that require you to have a degree in engineering to understand and operate I found the Speed Queen to be delightfully simple and intuitive to use . Seriously , just who really needs 73 different wash programs ? The Speed Queen offers Hot , Warm or Cold , Small Medium or Large options , a few wash cycles and a spin only , more than enough to suit any load in any household . Frankly life is too short to read and digest the 50 page manual that comes with some other brands of machine .It's also too short to be waiting around for their cycles that go on for upwards of an hour or more . The Speed Queen serves you , it does what it says it does by easily washing clothes fast and efficiently with the absolute minimum of effort on your part . Buy one , you won't regret it .

SQ from a washing machine service tech when asked what his preference was. First impressions are inspiring, quality, finish and feel of ruggedness. I already know it's going to perform admirably as we've enjoyed more than a decade of reliability from it's badged predecessor. Can't wait to take it for a spin... Disclaimer is we were fortunate to purchase our SQ as a factory second, at a markedly reduced price. On inspection it has a couple of minor scratch marks on the carcass that are easily concealed with appliance touch up paint. Otherwise this magnificent marvel is enamelled rolled gold! Bugger the laundry, this fine piece of American machinery will go straight to the pool room alongside our Kirby...

Update to first review – Update to my original post. Speed Queen replaced the Lid and Top of the Washer Cabinet, I paid a service fee and the parts supplied free. SQ tell me that the soap did this but as a Mechanical Fitter with 40 years plus experience including Industrial Spray Painting and Coatings I say the Parts were never prepared or coated correctly. will cause the paint to thin and allow corrosion to start, pictures of the new Top show a lack of Paint Coverage and very sharp edges. The old Top is worse than I thought and the Pitting so deep that it most likely would have shown through in another 12 months. Even the outer edges of the Top are corroded. I'll let the Pictures speak for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I think these are great machines and they wash really well but the quality of the paint in the unseen areas leaves a lot to be desired. The underside of the new Top is poorly painted as well, now you would think that SQ would ensure that the underside of the Top is painted correctly being that the Top is constantly getting splashed with water as well as the condesation build up instead of telling the customer that it is their fault because they are using too much detergent. I have emails from SQ to back up what I'm saying and SQ didn't want to talk to me until I put up my first review.

caused by previous washing machines which had a great tendency to imbalance … then the machines filling up with water in futile attempts to “balance the load”.
Just prior to purchasing my Speed Queen, my then washing machine went from 4.30pm to 7.30pm one day going through futile attempts to “balance the load”. I shudder to think what would have occurred if I had been out of the house … perhaps the “load balancing” procedure would have exhausted the whole town’s water supply … and my bank balance paying for it.
I spent a sleepless night researching washing machines and came across the brand Speed Queen. I had never heard of Speed Queen before but in the course of my research I could not find any bad reviews … only good ones.
So I came to the decision to buy a Speed Queen … and I must say … a very good decision that proved to be.
In this era of “planned obsolescence” and “off shore call centres” life is full of bitter little disappointments and stressful situations caused by inferior products which we come across daily and which often times, through lack of thought, research and choice, we purchase in haste, and regret, to our detriment, for a long time afterwards.
I have no regrets about purchasing my Speed Queen washing machine. It has been meeting all my expectations:
- it does a load in 37 minutes; - it washes and rinses to a very high standard; - I only use half the amount of detergent that I used in previous machines; - I love the traditional control knobs and the five choices of “cycle selection” viz.: Normal, Perm Press, Delicate, Rinse & Spin and Spin Only; - It is lovely to look at, delightful to touch and heaven to use; - It is a really beautifully made, solid piece of machinery; - its solidity gives me a wonderfully secure feeling that it will never imbalance; - doing the washing is now a pleasure and not a constant cause of stress.
I am so happy with my Speed Queen that I cannot stop myself from telling people how great it is. They often say “Are you in love … with your washing machine?”
I smile knowingly because I think that might be the case.
I was praising it to my next door neighbour. He told me that he was already aware of how good Speed Queen washing machines were as when he was in a job “on the road” “we guys had a Speed Queen washing machine on the back of a truck which we operated with a generator … it was great … “
So Speed Queen is a washing machine “for all seasons”.
For me, for you, for everyone … for tradies and for gentle ladies … for families and for singles.
And to top all that off:
No sooner will you have paid for your Speed Queen than you will be contacted within a couple of hours by:
- A respectful and courteous real Australian human being with a real Christian name and a real surname and not afraid to give it to you; - a real street contact address in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; - an actual landline phone number in Brisbane, Queensland , Australia.
The process of being able to have contact with a real person at an actual street address via an actual landline is very reassuring.
It helps restore one’s faith that there are still some things right in the world.

leaked a bit of water and would not spin very dry but otherwise it still washed perfect, so we decided there was no other washing machine with the speed queens track record so hey we purchased another one they were not the cheapest ones out there but with our experience with them they are value for money.
I simply love my industrial 8.5kg Speed Queen top load washing machine. The service provided at delivery and installation was great. Every wash is perfect, it is so simple to use and the spin cycle leaves your clothes near dry without damaging them. It is a bit noisy but we knew that from having used the machines in lots of laundromats and caravan parks. It is worth every cent of the purchase price. Show details

unmarked, so I dismissed my initial concerns. The set up instructions were clear and comprehensive and we followed the installation checklist to a T (take out the shipping brace and plug, connect the hoses, level the machine etc.)
The machine worked perfectly for the first 12 minutes of use until it got to the part of the cycle where it should have drained - and then there was just silence. After about 2 minutes of sitting there doing nothing, it started to try and spin the clothes, sloshing water around. Then it stopped trying to spin, and the “in use” light started flashing three times repetitively indicating a fault code.
When you pay over $2000 for a commercial quality, name brand appliance that promotes itself as reliable, you don't expect it to break down the first time you do a load of washing in it! To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. I felt ripped off.
My husband contacted the Speed Queen tech when he got home from work. The tech was polite, but none of his over the phone suggestions could coerce the machine to drain. Our brand new machine then sat full of smelly water for almost a week before the tech could come and fix it.
It was a fairly simple job – a circuit board (the drain neutral board which controls the DC pump) was faulty from new. Since this initial incident the machine has worked without faulting again. We've used it for almost 5 months now @ two loads a day.
I am still hesitant to give the Speed Queen 5 stars however. This machine has never really felt like a brand new machine because it was faulty from new and has already needed repairing. I also haven’t forgotten the attitude of the woman from the service centre either. Based on my experience, I think Speed Queen should give customers priority service if their brand new machines break down during the first week of ownership. Customers with brand new machines shouldn't have to wait a week for them to be repaired.
Our previous machine was a 7.5 kg Fisher and Paykel. It cost me $600 and didn't require any new parts in eight years that I owned it. This machine is still working (I gave it to a pensioner who needed a washing machine when I bought the Speed Queen).
Our Speed Queen has the same capacity as my previous machine. I like it because it handles a full load without going out of balance. It doesn’t spin the clothes as dry as my previous machine did however. A load of washing taken out of the Speed Queen takes about half an hour longer to dry in the dryer than a comparable size load that was spun in the Fisher and Paykel.
I will update this review and edit my rating, if our new Speed Queen performs well for the remainder of it's five year warranty period.

grubby when they go in but they always are very well washed when they come out – and like I said, normally on a cold cycle. It saves having to do a separate wash for clothes that need a hot wash. We are glad we got the large sized machine too as it means we can get so much done in one hit.

I purchased the machine directly from Speed Queen in December ‘24. The salesperson was fantastic and agreed take away 2 old washing machines at no extra cost. The installers were also fantastic, taking time to install the machine properly plus explaining the operating instructions. Overall the process from purchase to installation was faultless. The machine couldn’t be easier to operate and does a great job.

Yup, it cost more than the "others", but some of my friends have gone though multiple "other brand" machines in the same period of my ownership of this Speed Queen. Washing machine choice – We were lucky enough to learn about speed queen 40odd years ago we have only repaired our first machine it was just the belt that was after 10 years and 3 kids with nappies. We are on a 3rd set of speed queen machines we past down both the washing machine and dryer just to help the kids and we got new product. Very disappointed – Brought December 2017, it is now August 2024 and I have noticed that the paint is peeling on the underside of the top of the cabinet badly and the underside of the cabinet is badly rusted, I can feel the pitting. 25 years, there is no way this one will. Speed Queen don't want to know about it and it is a manufacturing fault in that very sharp edges were left on the metal cabinet which causes the paint to thin at the corners causing early failure.

ensure we were satisfied - We wanted the base model with dials (we aren't fans of a lot of electronics). Despite the simplicity, the machine is surprisingly highly functional, looks great and is sturdily built - Only on the third wash in, however so far I am very pleased with the results of the wash and speed of the wash cycles. Our loads predominately consist of outdoor work uniforms, office/casual wear and towels - I am excited to do the laundry!
