Great consistency – Great consistency in each pack I’ve purchased. Really good tasting coffee. Show details
Amazing Ground Coffee – Had been trying a number of different pre-ground coffees looking for a good one and stumbled on this one by chance. I had normally skimmed over it due to price but this time it was on special and it met the criteria of being fair trade and organic. Upon opening, the first thing I noticed was the high quality package which a lot of pre-ground… Read more
coffees skimp on - this one has a vent and a high quality zip zeal so it can be kept in the bag once opened. Big tick! Next thing to notice is the aroma - strong with a definite chocolate note just as the wording on the package says. This in particular stood out as it was super fresh - a lot of the other brands just don't "hit you" the way this one does. The ground itself is very fine. This does not normally mean much, however, my new coffee machine really works with this fine grind and extracts a great cup of coffee. Coarser blends come out watery as the water just goes straight through. The packaging states "Australia's No. 1 Organic Coffee Co." and I would not disagree. This is a 5 star product which produces a strong, well balanced, smooth cup of coffee with some definite chocolate notes. If you like a strong rich cup of coffee - this is your product. Highly recommended.
Right up with the best of the best – I have tried a fair number of organic coffee blends over the last year in my quest for a morning coffee I could really enjoy. I accept it can be a hit or miss affair dependent on my expertise as a barista on any given day, regardless, I prefer the coffee I make and I haven't enjoyed a really good coffee for months. I was sold on Republica as a… Read more
must try product when the packet promised rich chocolate notes. They had me at chocolate. Can't go wrong combining chocolate and coffee flavours. Then... Organic.... and in teeny letters Fairtrade.
I know price is important to consumers... However, as a consumer firstly restricted by choice to purchasing organic whenever possible, I accept there is a premium to be paid. I am also a consumer who applies ethics to purchases. Fairtrade would have been a selling point for me but it wasn't until I read all the glowing reviews did I read about the Timor coffee farmers. Bonus! I am prepared to pay extra to help Fairtrade organisations.
My preference is usually to buy a 1 kg bag of beans and grind fresh daily. For that pleasure I have paid between $22 - $47 for 1kg. Like wine, the cost is not necessarily representative of the taste. $22 is a supermarket special and compared to the market, has a better than average taste for me. Normal price is $36 at which time I switch to one of the organic farmers markets products @ $38 but with a free cup of coffee. The $47 product was extremely disappointing and going back to the best at that time, @ $38 per kg, that became my benchmark limit. It may be available elsewhere in different sizes or as beans, but I could only find 200g for $8 at Woolworths. So.... $40 per kg.
So after adding the premium for organic and supporting farming communities in Timor, am I prepared to pay $40 per kg for the taste of this coffee blend? Does the product justify the price in comparison with the competition?
Oh yes.... in comparison to the market it does... I have thoroughly enjoyed my morning coffee since swapping to Republica three days ago. Smooth flavours with no bitterness at all. Delicious aftertaste. I would imagine a cold brew of this would be lovely with icecream and a dessert liqueur like Baileys or Malibu...
I am also accepting of the coffee being ground. Perhaps it's ground to perfection thereby eliminating one of the factors a barista has to take into consideration. Plus I use a lot so not like a 200g bag would have the opportunity to go stale. Another bonus; don't have to go through the multi step grinding process, just spoon and go.
Well worth a try
Not good this time – I've been buying the timor blend for years . The last 3 packs have a burnt taste. It is relatively expensive but has been worth it up to now. The product is inconsistent. Show details
The best coffee I’ve ever had – I can’t be bothered with any other coffee now. It’s never bitter, just full of flavour and I love the chocolate overtones. “Going out for a coffee” has lost its appeal when I can make much better coffee at home. Fair trade and organic is great. Show details
One of my all time favourites! – Republica is one of THE best coffee brands on the market...an Australian owned and run company which is fair trade, organic and carbon neutral, and the Timor (along with Oxfam World Blend Espresso!) is one of the best for flavour! The Timor has a wonderful aroma, is not bitter and brews perfectly in the drip filter or plunger every time!
Excellent – We alternate the purchase of this product with one other coffee blend and somedays its very difficult to purchase the other brand when its the Republica Organica Timor turn. Overall we love this coffee. This coffee blend tastes delicious and is rich and robust; just the way I like my coffee. I love the fact that when you purchase this coffee not… Read more
only is it certified organic but that the purchase also contributes to the economic development of communities in Timor through the production of a sustainable and organic product. The shipping to Australia is the only downside for this coffee. However I think most coffee is imported so this goes some way to lessening the negatives for this coffee.
Excellent – Timor is a young nation with an amazing knack for growing great coffee. Republica makes a great coffee from these great beans with the added bonus of organic (no nasty chemicals) and Fairtrade (farmers are paid fair prices for their crop). Available from Coles and Woolies, so it's convenient too! Republica's Timor single origin espresso has hints… Read more
of dark chocolate and caramel flavours in every cup. It's a versatile coffee that can be drunk black or with milk. It's a on the more expensive side of espresso coffee in the supermarket, but it's a cafe coffee that's available in the supermarket. Really a connoiseurs coffee.
