Doesn’t last long Bought this product wasn't too bad however it didn't last long even thought it was only used once every 10 days. I thought Philips was a good brand. The reply from their customer service: The life of any product is directly related to the way the product has been used, maintained, charged, discharged and stored. As with any… Read more

I used this shaver once every 10 days however Philips deliberately design their product to only last while still under warranty. Do not buy!
Good trimmer with long battery life – Has a great battery life but my unit was NOT water proof as advertised. After using it in shower, it would then turn on by itself at random times in the night, waking me up. The third time it did this it vibrated it's way off the vanity, onto the floor where and it wouldn't turn on again the next day nor charge. Thankfully Philips have offered a… Read more
replacement. This seems to be a fault as I've read other reviews of people having the same problem. Would be a better product if it had a charging stand.
Amazing battery life and versatility – I use many of the 18 shaver heads for face, body, head, nose, groin. I've never seen such a good battery in any product. The case is convenient for travelling. Following instructions properly have kept my shaver in perfect condition over several years. Show details · 2
Useful while it lastest – Failed after less than 4 years. I think it was due to water damage, based on having a look inside (see photos). This is despite being advertised as "shower proof" and I never even used it in the shower, just rinsed the shaving head with water to clean it. Pretty disappointing lifespan from a brand name product, and I don't think these are build to… Read more
last beyond the warranty period.
My guess is that some water drops were gradually able to make it past the top seal where the rotating spindle sticks out. So if you do get one, I recommended at least storing it horizontally and not vertically on the countertop like I did sometimes.
Bedsides that shaver was very useful with all of the accessories. The fade combs worked well actually to quickly tidy up a haircut, and the battery life was awesome.

Two of these units failed – The original unit purchased, and another unit replaced under warranty, failed around 6 months. They both would not switch on. I think it is the on switch that fails, because in the week or two prior to fulll failure they would switch themselves on when not being used and would sometimes switch themselves off while being used, which hurt a little. … Read more
Thanks for the response ... it does sound a little like blaming the user ... I did keep the device clean ... does the Phillips Team really think that a build up of material in the shaving head could cause it to turn itself on when it was sitting, unused, in its case? The first time this happened it took me a while to work out where the humming noise was coming from.

Can a blind man trim/style his own hair, groom his beard, even manicure his eyebrows & manscape with electric clippers? – The short answer is YES, this blind man (me) did it without cutting my own throat, removing the ears from my head or shedding a single drop of blood! **FULLY UPFRONT DISCLOSURE** I'm not yet completely blind. I have a degenerative sight problem (meaning that it's getting worse over time, never better). Currently I'm blind in one eye and only have… Read more
effective sight in the other eye whilst wearing a prosthetic (resembles a contact lens for an elephant lol).
*edit - After reading this back I've decided to first say I change style of facial hair frequently, my review'll make more sense knowing this.
Before buying this multigroom I shaved with a disposable razor, embarrassingly I nick myself more frequently than most men do. The multigroom doesn't give as close a shave but I also didn't nick myself or get any razor burn. It is surprisingly close to the blade shave's closeness though. Yes, I know the multigroom is intended for beard grooming and the foil attachment is purposed for tidying up a beard edge and small area detailing etc but it could be argued that one style of beard is to have no beard at all. Ultimately it would be quicker than blade shaving but for the first shave it took much longer and multiple passes for me to get a completely clean shave. This initial shave took a fair while in truth to achieve an entirely clean shave but DIDN'T PULL ON MY STUBBLE AT ALL! With daily use, ultimately it would be quicker, easier and more convenient than blade shaving. Surprisingly, electric shaving left my facial skin softer than blade shaving. This is something I never would've known if I hadn't tried this electric shaver attachment. This shaving foil is smaller than a dedicated electric shavers foil though. In truth I haven't tried electric shaving in 30 years and I honestly don't know if this is because of electric shaving technology having improved over the last 30 years. I've been married twice, both times cutting myself badly on my wedding day. It isn't a great look in the photos, others may not notice but I'm really aware of it. I'm still with my second wife (having learnt some good lessons from the first marriage that have served me well). My wife and I've been together for 18 years.
I'm in my 50's now, some parts of my body have 5 decades of wild, untamed & unsightly hair growth -I'm speaking of my eyebrows lol.
The multigroom can do all of the things mentioned in the title, it also can quickly, easily and painlessly remove nose/ear hair and more. My wife uses it to shave her legs, give haircuts to the entire household etc. It works almost anywhere and on wet or dry skin. The multigroom seems to be the 'Swiss Army Knife' of electric clippers/shears, basically it's a cordless electric clipper/shears, for which various, optional, accessories can be fitted allowing more functionality.
It's this simple, FOR ME, the multigroom makes all facets of body hair grooming an easy, safe task and is a good product. I also think it's a great fit for the needs of my entire family. I don't want to sound like a TV infomercial though so read on for a more in-depth and balanced review.
Something that's important to acknowledge is that whilst it's good, it might not be the best fit for you and your family. I do dedicate some paragraphs below to the negatives and give a comparison to standard electric shears, I even put it in scoreboard fashion (resulting in a drawn score lol). When wearing my prosthetic I have good enough vision to hold a driver's licence but without it, for me to see my smartphone screen I have to hold the smartphone so close that my nose sometimes presses buttons.
****This's a significant point**** I PURCHASED THE MULTIGROOM WITH THE INTENT OF BEING ABLE TO SELF-MAINTAIN ALL FACETS OF PERSONAL GROOMING , NOW AND WHEN MY SIGHT WORSENS. My wife has enough on her plate looking after her disabled sister as well as myself, with my sight issues so anything I can do to lighten the load and maintain my independence is worth it.
That's how life is for me, in 2023. In my yesteryears I had functional use of both eyes (utilising prosthetics with both eyes). I'm down to one eye now and eventually a tomorrow may come when I've functional use of neither eye.
Having identified these specific criteria, I set about finding a product to meet that rather tall order. Definitely you pay more for cordless clippers and attachments that increase capability.
I don't want to sound like a morning TV, infomercial but this is an ideal fit for the hair cutting needs of the whole family, plus other body grooming requirements, eg grooming my beard or my wife shaving her legs or either of us cutting someone's hair etc.
I frequently change my facial appearance from clean shaven to goatee to a neatly trimmed beard to a manicured stubble, pirate's gruff or bushranger beard etc. My wife changes her hairstyle, colour and fashion, her look for the same reasons. Changing style now & then is a good thing, a fresh look is good for self esteem and a subtle but visible way for us each to show the other we aren't taking them for granted with complacency. For me, I appreciate the way my wife keeps her look fresh, I try and do likewise for her. The multigroom definitely makes it quick and easy.
To ascertain that I got a 'fit for purpose' product, during the first fortnight of daily use, I deliberately used it without the benefit of an installed prosthetic, thus mimicking the conditions of my reasonably expected, worst-case scenario in an eventual tomorrow.
The multigroom + accessories easily satisfied this criteria. I'll be candid enough to get my meaning across, when I say all facets, I mean ALL FACETS. From giving myself a hair cut to styling my beard, trimming lengthy, bushy eyebrows and manscaping all areas of body hair growth.
I USED IT TO CLEAR THE 5 DECADES OF OVERGROWTH FROM THE MANGROVE SWAMP SITED SOUTH OF MY BELT-LINE. It was a quick, painless, effortless and bloodless exercise! An easy task to manage and didn't nick myself at all using the body hair trimming attachment. My wife also uses this same accessory to shave her leg's. Again it made for an effortless, quick & easy task. This body hair trimmer is like a double sided mini-electric hedge clipper. It has a guard that keeps skin away from the cutters. This attachment doesn't shave as close as a razor but it does shave close enough that my wife's legs look great.
There are a variety of multigroom kits, I bought this (16in1) as it included the bits for body grooming as well as the bits for head and facial hair.
If you like the multigroom but don't want all that I wanted from it, then you can reduce the price by buying the multigroom by itself or in another variety of kit.
IS THIS VALUE FOR MONEY? If you pay the full RRP (Australian recommended retail price), then definitely YES! This multigroom can safely and easily manage all of one's body hair requirements. From head to toe, whether it's styling a head of hair, or even manicuring one's eyebrows, the multigroom makes it quick and easy (not that I'm currently game enough, brave enough or perhaps foolish enough to try eyebrows myself... Yet lol). My wife also uses it on her legs and arms etc.
DOES THE MULTIGROOM'S CHARGE LEVEL LAST A LONG TIME BEFORE RECHARGING IS REQUIRED? Most assuredly, yes. I gave it a full charge on the day I got it. That was 7, maybe 8 weeks ago and I'm still using it, from that initial charging. It's been used almost every day as part of my basis for assessment too. For the first 7 days or so I used it daily as a conventional electric shaver to remove facial hair with a conventional electric shaver foil attachment, in the second week I gave myself a haircut and used the nasal hair/ear hair trimmer, plus continued to use it daily as an electric shaver. It was in the second week, my wife began using it to shave her legs & arms etc. She's a bit hesitant to try things new to her, be my Guinea pig but she now uses it often.
I later spent a bit over 2 weeks maintaining a groomed, short, stubble appearance. I spent the subsequent few weeks maintaining a short goatee (moustache and beard growth around my mouth and chin) thus the whole grooming routine lapsed into a more leisurely, servicing on every third day or so. I'm currently being really lazy and growing a short & neat beard.
My wife and I have both been using it for almost 2 months now, still on the initial charge. I'm really impressed with the charge longevity. I have it on charge now, not because I ran it dead butbecause I've given up on running the charge down before writing this product review. It has an indicator light, one of which's functions is to alert the user that its down to the last 5 minutes of charge. After 7weeks of real world usage it still hadn't come on.
I intend to cut my brother-in-law's hair in the morning. The blade I have used all of this time for haircutting is actually one intended for facial hair. It is simply the quickest, best and easiest shears I've ever used.
All members of the household are of rural pedigree and laughed when I confessed to learning from a youtube video what I was using for cutting hair was the narrower, beard blades. The actual haircutting blades, the "T blades", I likened to a 'wide tooth comb' which a sheep shearer might use. It has a significantly wider cutting face but honestly I don't see a need for it unless you're using it commercially. The previously mentioned blade does the job effortlessly in quick enough time let alone doing it with even fewer passes!
CAN YOU USE IT BOTH WET AND DRY? WITH SHAVING CREAM OR IN THE SHOWER/BATH TUB? I honestly have never used it in any other way but with a dry skin however it can be used on either wet or dry skin & hair. I suppose it could be used in the shower or while bathing in a tub.
I like the convenience that I can use it anywhere without needing water, shaving cream or being anchored in a bathroom, also the convenience of rinsing under the tap to clean is really sweet.
I think using it submerged is pointless, bordering on reckless even and I sure wouldn't do it but I seem to remember youtube telling me something like it could survive being submerged in water to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. I definitely don't want to find out if this one is true or false but it's reassuring that if one accidentally drops it into a tub full of water it isn't the end of the road for it, I'd just get it out straight away. Certainly there are occasions when I like a nicely, scented shaving cream, these clippers can easily deal with that, but for everyday use, all of that bother with water and shaving cream/ beard balm etc is messy and I really like the freedom of not being shackled to my bathroom basin.
We live in the South Australian outback and during a summers day our bathroom is an over-abundantly warm place. During the hot months, even with the exhaust fan running, our bathroom is an uncomfortable place to be for more than a few minutes unless you're showering or towelling off, so, the quicker one can get personal grooming over and done with, the better.
I remind the reader that these are our personal circumstances, if you are amongst the majority of the Australian population, then you probably live in a more moderate climate than us and might choose to spend more time in the bathroom if so desired or needed.
IS THE MULTIGROOM BETTER THAN MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE, CORDED ELECTRIC CLIPPERS? This is really & truly a valid question. I'll attempt to inspire your own judgement by comparing the multigroom against my own corded, electric clippers and keeping score. My wife gifted me these electric clippers about 6 years ago and we have looked after them well.
BLADES *My 'old clippers' have blades that stay sharp & never need oiling- because of a blade coating that gets worn off if used with wet hair. The multigroom has self-sharpening blades and can be used with wet or dry hair. The multigroom gets the first points on the board. OLD FAITHFUL 0-1 MULTIGROOM
CUTTING CONSISTENCY *Both have a range of cutter guides used for varying lengths of hair, so both score a tick. OLD FAITHFUL 1-2 MULTIGROOM
EASE OF CLEANING *My corded electric clippers can't be cleaned by rinsing, so that's another point in favour of the multigroom. OLD FAITHFUL 1-3 MULTIGROOM
VERSATILITY *Unlike the multigroom my old clippers just cut hair, having a lever to adjust the cutter, 'Old Faithful' isn't akin to the "Swiss Army Knife multitool" of hair clippers like the multigroom which has more attachments than just combs of varying lengths. Yet another tick in favour of the multigroom. OLD FAITHFUL 1-4 MULTIGROOM
NOISE *My old electric shears cut hair quietly. They are in fact the quietest electric shears I've ever seen or used. The multigroom is not noisy either but, it's noise level changes with the attachment used, eg the nose hair trimmer is louder than the beard trimmer. That's a tick in favour of my old, faithful clippers. OLD FAITHFUL 2-4 MULTIGROOM
*PRICE (In terms of RRP ONLY), this is an easy win for 'Old Faithful'. I could probably buy 3 or 4 units of 'Old Faithful' for the price of one multigroom. OLD FAITHFUL 3-4 MULTIGROOM
ERGONOMICS *The multigroom doesn't have any significant variation in shape along its body whereas 'old faithful' does seem to have had more attention paid by the designers to the way it feels in the hand. It's wider where it nestles into the palm of the hand, narrower along where the fingers extend and increasing width where one's fingertips are placed, giving both a more positive and a more ergonomic one. This is a 'comfortable' win to 'old faithful', pardon the pun lol. OLD FAITHFUL 4-4 MULTIGROOM
WEIGHT "Old Faithful" is not a heavy, industrial machine purposed for commercial use but it isn't a featherweight either. It does weigh more than the multigroom. This adds to the ergonomic comfort, with a caveat- Neither machine is purposed for commercial use, if they were, than less weight would be beneficial for fatigue and RSI reasons (Repetitive Strain Injury) but as the multigroom does feel a little bit plasticy the point goes to 'old faithful'. OLD FAITHFUL 5-4 MULTIGROOM
*DEXTERITY Ok, this doesn't need much explanation, it's obviously a win to the multigroom because it doesn't need to be tethered to a wall socket, 'nuff said. OLD FAITHFUL 5-5 MULTIGROOM
So it's actually a close race until the VALUE FOR MONEY factor is brought into the equation, this isn't quantifiable. Firstly you have to be brutally honest with yourself about your individual needs and how completely they are filled by an product or how much you're willing to compromise satisfying one need over another. Satisfying my needs, at the price I paid, for me the multigroom was a clear winner so I bought it. For someone else the pendulum might swing the other way. I've already explained my thinking/reasoning behind my decision but if you're still sitting on the fence, undecided about which way to fall then also consider these negative points.
NEGATIVE & NOTEWORTHY These points combined were significant enough to cost the multigroom a full star in my rating and this is really disappointing because if I was just reviewing the kit's versatility and performance alone then it would have warranted a full 5 stars. 1)THE LABELLING ON THE ATTACHMENTS IS REALLY POOR. Not all of the pieces, in my '16in1' kit are labelled, fair enough not all bits need it, eg a cleaning brush is obviously a brush. For other accessories the labelling is pathetic! - eg size of the various plastic, cutter guides, the size is a molded, part of the piece itself, made from the same plastic, all in the same colour, and tiny lettering. There's almost no chance of instant recognition for the cutter guide you're seeking, to read the label it has to seen in reflective light. - All characters appear in the same- monochrome colour as the attachment, just look at the pictures and you'll see what I'm talking about and consider the scale of the zoom. -Yes there are 3 different colour cutter guides, corresponding to the type of attachment; black for head hair, dark green for body hair and grey for facial hair, BUT THIS IS ALL JUST EDUCATED GUESSWORK OR INSTINCTIVE SPECULATION BECAUSE THE LABELLING AND PRINTED MATERIAL IS SUCH UTTER RUBBISH (printed material comment explained further below). 2) INADEQUATE ACCESSORIES BAG *The included travel bag is made of thin material that doesn't inspire confidence in its longevity and probably will wear out quickly. Especially considering that most users WILL MAINLY BE USING JUST ONE ATTACHMENT AND AFTER CLEANING MOST LIKELY BE REINSTALLING FOR QUICK LOCATING THE NEXT TIME IT'S USED. It's a black bag (dark inside) with an opening only wide enough for an adult hand to snugly fit in, leaving nil room for light to enter the bag nor room for somebody to see past their hand whilst rummaging around. It doesn't matter if the multigroom is facing up, down or sideways, those cutter's, or guides will eventually make a hole. Especially from the draw strings of the bag which is pulling the material inwards, against the things with sharp points and edges.
I know that I probably won't be using all 15 of the included accessories so I make it easier by just putting in the travel bag what is likely to be used (including the charger+lead), leaving the rest in the box or bathroom drawer.
3)THE POOR LABELLING EXTENDS TO THE PRINTED MATERIAL accompanying the multigroom. THE USER MANUAL has nil wording! It's essentially ancient, Egyptian, hieroglyphics and will get put aside because it's essentially useless. -One of the worse things about the multigroom is that I think the owner is encouraged to download an app, join a website etc to get a better explanation of the manual. I am one customer who doesn't want to join yet another email list etc.
LACK OF CONTRAST *The warranty information etc is printed in a reasonably good size which in theory should allow for easy reading. Alas, it is GOOD IN THEORY BUT POOR IN PRACTICE. The paper it's printed on is an off-white colour and the print colour is a faint grey, ie it also has little to none effective contrast.
******GOOD NEWS****** Somewhere at the bottom of this review is a link to download a copy of the manual. It's an exact copy of the rubbish one that came in the box, complete with hieroglyphics but without the poor ink and paper so this copy will be legible.
***ULTIMATE CONCLUSIONS*** -Even after such significant negatives costing it a full star it still is deserving of a 4 out of 5 stars rating. THE MULTIGROOM IS A REALLY GOOD PRODUCT. :I bought the 16 piece kit, almost all of it will be used amongst my HOUSEHOLD. -There are other combination kits too, eg 12 piece, 23 piece and probably others. One kit which I saw even had 2 different types of cleaning brush, I'm not sure about the real value of that nor whether individual brushes are counted as piece's, but the moral is to do your diligent product research. -This isn't a new product so it has a proven track record and youtube had loads of videos which assisted me in making an informed decision as did productreview.
This trimmer saves me $$$$ and time on wet shaves – Got this for a christmas present. Best gift ever, I am able to keep a 5 o'clock shadow stubble 24/7. there are multiple attachments, I use the trimmer and fade attachment to maintain my stubble which my wife likes. I even trimmed up downstairs for a more attractive manscape look. Show details · 1

Best Beard Trimmer in 42 years of continuous beard ownership – Solid build. Well balanced in the hand. 18 in 1 model purchased on special from HN <$200. Too many attachments for my needs. FAR better quality than the Wahl I was previously using which cost a similar price about 5 years ago for weekly beard trims. The Wahl had started to fall apart and break despite careful use and storage. Show details · 1

Would wholeheartedly recommend. No negative points to note, but would have been nice to have a stand included. Show details

Best multi groom unit! – The best unit I have owned ever .. I like that the battery lasts for ever and the blades are self sharpening. I use it as clippers, beard trimmer and as a body grooming tool. The attachments including various sized blades, foil shaver, body shaver, etc are very good addition. Overall a superb quality unit! Show details · 1
Nice Groomer but could do a bit more – The groomer is fantastic, there is a lot of things that I haven't used yet, however some innovative parts to it, I did take of 1 star due to the price, for the price it should have came with a recharger docking station I think. Its a smooth shave, allows you to shave, cut hair and trim body hair - used it on the first day I got it and was good.… Read more · 1

This is quality at it's finest by Phillips! – I purchased this Phillips trimmer from shavershop online at great value for $129. "You get what you pay for". So Versatile – Bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. He mostly uses it for beard trimming and has found the multigroom very comfortable and allows him to 'style' his beard perfectly. Excellent product – I have been through multiple beard trimmers. All have lasted between 6 months to a year. This might be because I didn't want to spend a fortune on them.i decided to suck it up and spend a little more, so I purchased the mutilgroom. WOW! it fe3ls sturdy in your hand and does the job, better than the ones I have previously used. The only flaw, (in my opinion) is the positioning of the on/off button. I keep switching it off mid trim lol. Show details
