Works great but difficult to clean the bucket and crisper plate. I can't even buy a replacement crisper plate because it's been out of stock for ages. Will not be buying Ninja air fryers again. Show details

5 stars - what a great appliance – I was really lucky to get it on sale and it is amazing. I cannot fault it. Bought it because it is ceramic and not teflon. It cooks everything perfectly, including eye fillet steak. Easy to use and easy to clean. I do wish the accessories were easier to find (I'd like a rack for inside it to double the space) but that isn't a reason to drop a star). LOVE IT. Photos are of pumpkin, chicken and a steak I cooked in it. Show details

Love it, love it. My best friend in the kitchen – Oh my goodness. How good is this wonderful Air Fryer, the Ninja AF160 Max. Answer : HOLY MOLY dam good !!! Being aged in my mid 60’s, I have to admit, the thought of purchasing an air fryer was simply just “never on my radar”. I just didn’t think I needed one. How ancient am I ?? The combination of grown up children constantly singing… Read more

the praises of an air fryer and constantly telling me “mum, you seriously gotta get one”, mixed with the current spate of extremely hot and humid weather with my kitchen resembling a sauna whenever I have had anything on the stove or in the oven, I definitely had to re-evaluate my kitchen needs.

Add the January sales, a bit of research and a few clicks on the internet, & hey presto, I’d just done what I now wished I’d done a very long time ago and bought an Air Fryer. Decided on the Ninja Air Fryer Max AF160, as my daughter has this brand and loves it, it has very good reviews, an excellent and reliable reputation, and it’s the perfect size for my smallish kitchen without taking up too much space on the bench top. It’s modern, sleek exterior looks great in my kitchen and trust me, it will in your’s too.

I’ve only had it for a few weeks and already most days it’s been used at least once. it comes with instructions which were very easy to follow and I was relieved to experience that you didn’t have to be a rocket scientist or mathematician to figure out how to use it. It has a very uncomplicated and straightforward control panel, with easy to read buttons and display, 6 different cooking functions (Air Fry, Max Crisp, Bake, Roast, Dehydrate and Reheat) which makes operating it honestly really simple, even for somebody my age. It even comes with a recipe book which is a great help in giving such guidance to the uninitiated like me as to how long to cook things for.

It’s 5.2L capacity is more than adequate just for our household of two people, and surprisingly fits a lot more in it than I thought it would. It would easily feed a family a four.

I’m already finding this is my “go-to” appliance whenever I just want a quick, easy snack or meal, without the fuss and without heating up the kitchen. I’m still experimenting to some degree, but certainly have got chicken breasts, hash browns, fish pieces and fries etc down to almost perfect.

It’s a dream to clean, love the way it turns itself off when it’s finished, and honestly, really can’t fault it on any level.

Whether you’re a keen cook, or just someone who wants to get dinner on the table with as little fuss as possible, the Ninja Air Fryer Max AF160 ticks a whole lot of boxes . 100% Recommend.

This is my new favorite thing!! – Lately, I have been worried about my diet especially with the amount of grease I put in to fry my food. As a busy adult, I don't have much time to prepare and cook food hence, I usually just "fry away" stuff straight from the fridge. A mate recommended an Air Fryer and boy, was he wrong?! This bad boy is really user friendly with functional… Read more

buttons that even a child can operate! (not that I'm recommending having your child operate it, but yeah, you get the point!) It was on sale for $99 from my local JB HiFi store and I never regret every buck I paid for it! I know there are other "pricier" and "fancier" brands but this one gets the job done for a steal price!! If you're on the hunt for a very reliable, inexpensive, and easy to use Air Fryer, well, what are you waiting for?!

Perfect every time – Having had a cheapie air fryer I thought I would upgrade and Inam so glad I did. Who knew it would make such a difference. This machine is amazing, easy and big enough for the snacks the kids make and the chips that I make. My mum has one and she loves hers as well. Show details

An (almost) perfect replacement for an oven for a small household – Caveats - I've only had it for 9 months, so I can't comment on longevity. I'm a sole user so I can't comment about its usage in a family. I've used it as a (high speed, low power) replacement for an oven, particularly for cooking items from frozen, so not a wide range of use (although it does a great job of roast pork with crackling). Given that,… Read more

it has done exactly as I hoped it might. I have found that I need to lower any recipe requirements by lessening time or reducing heat from even the Air Fryer instructions .. so maybe it is running hotter than the displayed temperature?

I'm not a believer in non-stick surfaces, but the non-stick on the rack and basket an the Ninja have worked perfectly and enabled cleaned to be super easy. Basically, after emptying the contents I just add enough water and detergent to cover the rack, let it soak and then wipe over with a nylon pad after dinner.

It isn't big enough to hold a pizza .. but then could you call it an Air Fryer if it was that big?

Great for the price – We have had this Ninja Air fryer for about 8 months now and I would say we use it most nights. We had no problems at all with it at all. There is only the two of us most nights and it is great for roasting potato chips, takes about 11 mins on 200C. It is simple to use and easy to clean. The basket is not the biggest so it may not suit a large… Read more

family, It is quiet, and does not take up too much space on the bench top. Hint: Directly after using, while it is still very hot, rinse the bowl out with warm / hot water swirl around half a dozen times and empty it will keep the thing mostly clean for a few weeks of use

Good, worth having – First air fryer, so nothing to compare it to- but it seems pretty good so far. Very easy to clean, nothing has stuck to the drawer/tray so far, can clean it with soapy water and everything just wipes off. Unexpectedly good for quick roasting veg, so very happy with that. Doesn't take up much space and works very well. Needs to come with more… Read more

information about how to convert regular oven cooking to air fryer cooking, I've burnt a lot of stuff trying to figure out what to do and still haven't nailed simple things like crumbed fish- seems overcooked on the outside an undercooked inside.

No spare parts – Air fryer itself ok, but 9 months into ownership and its started to burn most things. Impossible to thoroughly clean the top of air fryer. Also, expect to shell out $$$ for a brand new one once the basket and/or crisper plate starts to deteriorate, because ninja refuse to restock spare parts and lie about (nonexistent) ETA dates for those parts. Dishonest company, never buying from them again. Show details

Would not honour 2 year warranty – Purchased this Air Fryer it was still within the 2 year warranty period (20 months) when I encountered issues with it. Contacted Ninja and was told that I had to provide a video. I was unable to do so as my phone does not have this capability. Went backwards and forwards to find a resolution. It never happened. I did like this appliance, so much so that I reluctantly purchased another one yesterday. Not good enough Ninja! Show details

Went from a $50 air fryer to a $200 one – I bought an air fryer for less then $50 and delivery. It wasn't bad and for that price if it worked it worked. The short of this review? It's over priced, a cheap one does just as good if not a better job, and contacting support is difficult. Eventually I needed a new one and, loving their blenders, thought why not an air fryer from Ninja. It… Read more

cooks food quick. Always check if food is cooked through but some meals go from 35 to 15, even 10, minutes.

It cooks fairly evenly, I'm not a big fan of the type of buttons but they do the job, and on some settings it's extremely quiet.

Update: After months of use it's flaws have constantly made it not worth $200.

First problem is it has no way to provide air flow under food so while it has a 5.2L capacity you'll be hard pressed to find anything of that size you can actually cook properly. You'll find yourself shuffling, flipping, so many times you'd wish you just got a cheap bench top deep fryer.

The "Crisper plate" falls out if you're pouring out stuff such as chips so imagine a metal plate that just falls on top of the food you're preparing. Sometimes it doesn't fall out entirely but moves a bit then tilts so if you're making something like chips they get behind the metal plate which is annoying.

Holding down the temperature or time button reduces/adds really slowly so you have to constantly spam buttons.

The dehydrator mode does nothing far as I can tell you're much better off getting a cheap dehydrator for $10-20.

The crisper plate is a nightmare to clean. The non stick coating isn't scratched or peeling it's almost as if they attempted to make a non stick coating but it makes it worse then plain stainless steel.

Worse off the crisper plate tilts or falls out if you're pouring stuff out of the air fryer like chips.

I love the back vent that faces up. It's great because you don't have to have steam blowing directly against your wall, other food, etc but that's where the smart design choices end. Ninja makes amazing blenders but as for air fryers it is not worth the money.

I tried contacting Ninja support but that was pointless. I go to the contact page and it says "Please get in touch with us by clicking on the “Support” button at the bottom left corner of the page". I searched the page (with the search in page function) and found the word "Support" three times but no button. There is a button in the bottom left to sign up to marketing emails however.

So there's no email option so your options are live chat and a call center which aren't always open and for some reason when I went on the contact page the option to enter a live chat goes away.

Handy Kitchen Gadget – WHAT: Ninja AF160ANZ air fryer - 1750 Watts power, usable cooking volume 7.5 litres The air fryer users a high temperature fan heater on top to force air down and circulate around the food inside the circular cooking "basket" - its like a miniature fan forced oven. The cooking basket is like a pot with a handle you pull out, and it comes with a… Read more ·  1

raised slotted plate to allow the hot air to get underneath the things you are cooking. The inside is coated with a "non stick" enamel CONTROLS: Membrane buttons - on-off; start stop; six presets, & variable time and temperature settings - temperature settings depend on the type of cooking you are doing: e.g. MAX CRISP, AIR-FRY, ROAST, BAKE, REHEAT, DEHYDRATE. INSTRUCTIONS: Comes with a small instruction and recipe book, with hints and tips, guidelines for airfrying different foodstuffs, e.g. Frozen foods, fast food, veggies, meats, fish, poultry. The recipes give a few ideas and there is always online resources for air-frying recipes. IN USE: You have to pick the type of cooking, adjust the time and then the temperature. The countdown timer pauses when you pull out the basket and restarts once you put it back in, but if you leave it out it cancels after about 5 minutes. The cooking basket gets very hot, so a pot stand to protect the bench is strongly recommended. Ninja also recommend warming the empty basket for 3 minutes before cooking - this perhaps helps when you want a quick seal on the outside of the food - like searing a steak on a BBQ to seal it so it doesn't leak too many juices - but it doesn't matter so much for longer, slower cooks. CLEANING: The non-stick enamel is quite good so far, just needing a soapy washout to remove oil/fat from the surface - its going to be sugary marinades that are more likely to stick, but with care they can be removed from the slotted plate and the inside of the basket. CAPACITY: The usable volume is 7.5 litres, but because of the need to circulate the hot air its not always available - e.g. you can't fill the bowl with chips/fries and expect it to cook well as the air circulation would be impaired by the very full basket - more on this later. The diameter of the basket is 200mm +5mm so 200mm (8") accessories will fit inside. TIPS: I found some air fryer accessories online that included drying racks, shaslik skewers (very small), small silicone baking trays, tongs and an insulating pot stand. The tongs came in VERY handy for manipulating the inserts like the crisper stand and the drying racks while cooking, as they will get VERY hot. The extra rack, with its insulated rubber feet, enables one to have two layers of loosely spaced food while cooking, so the hot air circulates right around. Even so, it is obvious that the food closer to the top of the air fryer cooks much quicker than food lower down. This is why Ninja say to open the drawer and toss the food to get even browning, or with some recipes (like a whole chicken) to turn it over halfway through. So the cooking/browning is not quite as even as you would expect. Watch out for the strength of the fan as it will blow loose items off a toastie or slice etc. And the silicone stand for the hot basket is very, very useful indeed. FOOD: Making melted cheese toasties (use the toaster first) - excellent! Chips / Wedges {potato or sweet potato): well this must be what air fryers were invented for. I like to lightly steam the potato first, dry it (I cheat and use the 3min preheat to do this) and then toss them in salt/pepper/paprika with a little oil. Voila! Also lightly oiled mushrooms come out well. Other veggies still need to try. Whole Chicken: yes - because of the size there is no time saved, but it does crisp the skin nicely, and dont forget to turn over. The fat drips off and collects in the bottom of the basket. You do need to check that it is fully cooked with a meat thermometer as the crisping skin can be deceptive - it looks well done but it could be only on the outside! Fish: stick to oily fish, barramundi, salmon - or coat non-oily fish. Other meats: Ribs: yes, and there is many more to try. OTHER COMMENTS: It should heat up your kitchen less, and save energy $$$, as it needs little warm up time and uses less power than a toaster or an oven. OVERALL: Yes it is a plus - I hope it is reliable; time will tell. Have enjoyed experimenting with cooking different things, and the lower fat content is a bonus. It is easy to clean as well, but I definitely recommend the extras you can find online. Keep in mind it it hotter at the top of the basket, & cooks from the top down, so it does not cook evenly - relevant when cooking a large item or if you are using racks to cook more than one layer. If you change your racks around or turn your food, and toss your food regularly, you should be fine. PS: Plenty of other photos on line - purchased on a Black Friday weekend as a treat to myself :)

Love it – Love it and using it everyday. This machine come with baking tray for extra crispiness which is a plus. Highly recommend. After a few years update. The crisp plate was coated with non stick and once the coating gone, foods stuck on the plate which is quite annoying. Was great ... until it died! – We loved this air fryer, it made cooking family meals quick and easy. Was fast to heat up. However it stopped working after 15 months. As it was outside of warranty Ninja would not fix it. Disappointing that it only lasted just over a year. Would have expected better.

Amazing. Would buy again – Excellent quality. If I were to buy again I’d purchase the two drawer option. I’ve used it for mini roasts, various potato products, reheating pizza and many other things. It’s comes out amazing. Much like an oven you do need to seat the temperature and time correctly to ensure everything is cooked evenly without burning. That’s to be expected of any cooking appliance though. Show details
