Midea GAIA Series

I love the quiet effectiveness of our Midea air conditioner. This little unit keeps the study at a comfortable temperature all year round, and we no longer have to heat or cool the whole house to do that. It very quickly brings the room temperature up or down, and you can barely hear it. It's been effective through the depths of winter and peaks… Read more
of summer. The fan is pretty quiet unless you really turn it up. I like the timer feature, but I would love it if you could set an automatic default to switch off after x minutes though, we often leave the house and forget about it.
I’ve been testing the Midea GAIA Series 3.5kW for four weeks. We had it installed by Honghua, and the technician, Ping, was excellent — friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. He explained the best height for installing the split system and… Read more
asked where we wanted it placed along the wall. I was particular about how the wiring should be organised, so I asked him to redo it after he had completed the installation, he happily obliged, and said that as long as it made me happy :). We chose to install the unit at the top right of our 4m x 5m main bedroom. My husband is one of those people who must have a gentle breeze while sleeping, all year round — which, as you can imagine, I do feel sorry for myself in winter. In spring and summer, he’d have an industrial fan going, and in autumn and winter, a table fan running through the night. So, he was especially excited about the “fresh air” feature, where the unit draws in outdoor air, filters it through an H13 HEPA filter, and pushes it into the room. In this mode, the unit provides a gentle, consistent airflow that feels much softer and less “in-your-face” than a fan. It makes the room feel less stuffy, especially at night when the windows are closed. I can’t confirm whether the air quality itself improves since I haven’t measured it, but the difference in airflow comfort is definitely noticeable. That said, this is also the noisiest mode — not louder than a standard air conditioner, but considering Midea boasts the GAIA as “quiet”, it does stand out. Here are the official noise specifications: High fan mode: 39.1 dB (similar to a quiet library) Low fan mode: 22.5 dB (similar to leaves rustling) Silence mode: 19.3 dB (similar to breathing) I can verify that these specs are accurate. On the standard setting with full fan speed, the unit is very quiet. I’ve attached a video where the operating sound is barely noticeable, and it doesn’t disturb our sleep at all. Wanting to note that the fresh air mode is noticeably louder — I’ve attached a comparison video for reference. I haven’t really needed to use silence mode, as the standard setting is already low-noise, but when I tested it briefly, it was almost whisper-quiet. Turbo mode produces a light hum but is still quieter than fresh air mode. The outdoor unit is silent unless turbo is running. Another feature Midea promotes is its “breezeless technology”, which we also tested and really liked. It’s available only in cooling mode and gives you cooling without the icy blast — a much gentler experience. The unit’s specifications suggest heating performance in Melbourne isn’t very efficient (with a 3-star rating). I’ve attached a picture of cooling and heating efficiency across Australia and New Zealand. Despite the rating, I’ve found its heating performance excellent. Our bedroom heats up surprisingly fast — within three minutes there’s a noticeable warm breeze, and by five minutes, the room is comfortably warm, even on Melbourne’s frosty winter mornings. I usually switch it on full blast, and it quickly settles into maintaining a stable, cosy temperature without constant fiddling. Although our house is 6-star energy-rated, but this year has been the coldest and longest winter I can remember in Melbourne, and I normally only need the heater on at 17 degrees to give more than enough warmth. I also really like the Midea MSmartHome app — it’s honestly much better than the remote. The app is easier to use, has a cleaner interface, and explains features more clearly. For example, breezeless mode only works in cooling, which isn’t obvious on the remote, but the app makes it clear. It also tracks room temperature and humidity, which is handy. Perhaps they are 2 small features but we liked it and it felt its worth mentioning. Firstly, the “follow me” mode — the thermostat adjusts based on the temperature detected by the remote control rather than the unit itself. This ensures the air around where you are (with the remote) is kept at the set temperature, which feels more accurate and comfortable. Second, but certainly not least, is that the LED display can be turned off — a small but thoughtful feature, especially for my husband, who is a very light sleeper and gets easily disturbed by even the faintest glow. I’m no heating and cooling expert, but overall, I’ve been impressed with the features the Midea GAIA Series 3.5kW offers. My only critique is the design — while functional, it is a bit chunky. The boxy, square look could be softened with more curved edges to better blend into a bedroom. That said, once installed, it doesn’t look bad, and the fresh-air duct integration caused no issues. Overall verdict: After four weeks of use during one of Melbourne’s longest, coldest winters, the GAIA has proven to be quiet, efficient, and packed with features. The heating is fast, the airflow feels natural, and the app makes control intuitive. My husband especially loves the fresh-air feature, the option to turn off the LED display, and the quiet operation — perfect for someone who needs constant ventilation while sleeping, AND minimal disturbances during the night. For under $1,000, it feels like a well-rounded unit. I’ll know more about energy usage and durability after a full season of testing, but so far, I’m very happy with it.
Updating the review 4/11 I have mild fever and now that it is spring, I experience mild hay fever symptoms from using the fresh air mode. It's apparent that the filter did not remove the pollen particles that can trigger hay fever response.
Follow-up · 1. I never knew that could be a feature that air conditioner has. I was pleasantly surprised by this feature. I often leave this mode on at night when I am sleeping and the room does feel cooler, as it would be taking in the night air into the room. 2. The wiring redo doesn't improve the setup, it just makes the wiring more neat. I appreciated… Read more
I love our Midea Gaia 2.6kW air conditioner. We did a fair bit of research before choosing this system and very glad that we did. It is a split system, which features fresh air technology. It is quiet unit, and one of the deciding factors on buying this system was its smart features. It also has a hybrid fresh air exchange system and a 56℃-Clean… Read more
self-cleaning function. The "Breezeless" technology helps soften the airflow with mini-holes. Smart control is easy to use via the Midea app and is compatible with Google Home which we love.
Easy to use does not use a lot of electricity very fast with effects and can’t live without it .On those 40 degrees days really makes my dog grooming so much easier . With climate change everyone needs one of these . Show details

unit has proven to be a fantastic addition to our home, offering quiet efficiency, smart energy-saving features, and excellent climate control. What I love: Warranty period - unlike any other ACs I previously reviewed, Media offers a 7 year warranty. For something that you will spend so much money on and bolt it to the house it gives you a decent assurance that you will be supported for years to come. Energy Efficiency - With its excellent energy rating, this unit keeps my electricity bills in check while running for hours during summer. The inverter technology ensures that power consumption remains low without compromising on performance. In simple terms. I extensively measured power consumption for the unit. In cooling mode it is supposed to use even less (will check it in summer months). Now, at winter time, starting AC with temperature outside 9c and indoors 18c in the 17sq m room it starts up at 1.2Kw and in a matter of 10 minutes going down to 300w/h energy consumption for the night. Well, this is beyond impressive!!! Whisper-Quiet Operation - Even when it's working hard to heat up the bedroom, it’s barely noticeable. Perfect for bedrooms or study areas. Can be loud though at start up and on boost mode. Overall happy not only with the noise level, but also at configurability of fan speeds… So much granular config can be done via the app. Smart Features - The built-in Wi-Fi functionality and app compatibility make it super convenient to control from anywhere. I can turn it on remotely before I get home, and it’s ready when I walk through the door. Well, some of you may say, so what? Who needs that? Well, you may have that situation where you turned it on on a cold night to warm up the room, left the remote on the wall and… Ohh, it's warm, time to turn the AC off. But the remote is on the wall and you're in bed scrolling through the phone feed :-). Yeah, full AC control via app - say no more. But hold on, there is MORE!!! LoL. The AC remote is basic. You’ll find so many control functions in the app. Great Cooling/Heating Performance - The 2.6kW capacity is ideal for smaller rooms and cools/heats down the area quickly and evenly. It offers a range of modes and a dehumidifier function, which is a big plus during humidity spikes. I’m yet to thoroughly test the cooling function (it’s winter now, I just briefly tried during the day to make sure it works), but heating works super good whilst consuming relatively little energy. Sleek, Minimal Design - It has a modern, streamlined appearance that fits nicely into our home's aesthetic. It doesn’t dominate the room like some older models. All whilst offering seemingly way more functions than most ACs on the market. If you're looking for a reliable (with long warranty term), modern, and energy-efficient air conditioning solution for a bedroom, small living room, or office space, I highly recommend the Midea GAIA Series 2.6kW. It packs premium features into a cost-effective and compact unit. A great investment for comfort all year round!
