  Ambassador Review Compact

Compact and Powerful but Lacking a Few Essentials – Unboxing Experience: The Karcher 4 Compact comes in a fairly small box which is easy to unpack. It ships with two key attachments: the Dirt Blaster and Vario Power Jet. While these are useful, I was disappointed that a wider jet nozzle wasn’t included, which would have been handy for more versatile cleaning tasks. Fortunately, I received an… Read more ·  1

eco!Booster 130 from ProductReview, which filled this gap, but it would have been nice if this was part of the original package. Additionally, there was no detergent included, so if you’re planning to wash your car or similar, you’ll unfortunately need to purchase that separately.

Build Quality: The unit is lightweight and easy to carry, which is great for portability. However, the plastic construction feels a bit on the soft side, and my sprayer handle already showed scratches after light use. I did run into a minor issue with the hose getting stuck in the handle. After a moment of mild frustration, I realised that turning the machine and water tap off and depressing the trigger to release the pressure solved the problem. To be fair, it probably makes perfect sense to do that in the first place—chalk that one up to me not reading the manual as thoroughly as I should have! Despite some small quirks, the overall build seems sturdy enough for regular use.

Performance: The performance of the Karcher 4 Compact impressed me for such a small machine. The Dirt Blaster attachment worked exceptionally well on my limestone wall—so well, in fact, that I had to be careful not to blast away chunks of the wall itself! You can see in my photos before and after examples, it's quite impressive. The Vario Power Jet was less impressive. It’s a decent multi-purpose tool, but it’s not the best at any specific task, and I found myself wishing for the true wide-jet nozzle for better coverage. Still, the water pressure is excellent and gets the job done efficiently.

Final Thoughts: The Karcher 4 Compact is a capable and portable power washer with some room for improvement in accessories and build material. If you’re looking for a solid cleaner for smaller jobs and don’t mind picking up a few extras like detergent or a wider nozzle, it’s a good choice. Just handle it with relative care, and it should last you well.

Rating: 4/5

Note: The Karcher 4 Compact and eco!Booster 130 were loaned to me by ProductReview for testing and review purposes.

  Ambassador Review Premium Power Control

Ugh! could be better – I was given this Karcher K4 Premium Power Control Pressure Washer for free in exchange for writing a review. I did not choose to buy this item. As of 24/10/2024 which is before these freebies were sent out, the overall rating was 2.3/5. So I suspect Karcher are attempting to improve ratings by having reviewers write a review within a time limit… Read more

of 1 month, so reliability is not a factor. Many years ago I had a Karcher and only after light use the pump housing split rendering it dead, so reliability is questionable.

3/5 Overall If I was in the market for a pressure cleaner, I would not buy this Karcher K4 for $579 as there are other brands that have better design and higher ratings.

2/5 Packaging and assembly Difficult to lift main unit out of box because no obvious lift points. Several parts to assemble which made it unnecessarily laborious experience. Large chunks of packaging polystyrene to dispose of. One of the worst instruction manuals I have ever seen. During the 25-minute assembly I placed my hand on the body of the unit to discover it was OILY, UGH! Seems to have leaked oil from inside the main unit.

3.5/5 Overall in use

PROS 4/5 Works just like any other pressure cleaner. Noise level is normal. Hose winder works OK.

CONS 1/5 The handle and lances are not rotatable. So you are stuck with horizontal jet unless you hold the handle GANSTER style to get a vertical jet.

****MINUS 5 out of 5 FOR THE MOST USELESS FEATURE**** The Pressure Indicator on the handle. To get a reading the trigger needs to be pulled to shoot water and ONLY THEN does the Pressure Indicator shows you the pressure. Pointless! Never looked at it again!

3/5 Water inlet connection is inconveniently on the front towards the work area.

2/5 mobility. 1st stupid design. Moving on short grass was difficult because the unit has very low clearance and there is a lip sticking out at the back that digs into the grass below the mesh pocket when wheeling.

1/5 cord storage. 2nd stupid design. No convenient cord storage. Instead I just wound the cord around the hose reel.

2/5 Unit raisable handle. 3rd stupid design. Needs to be pulled up hard to engage hidden gripping mechanism which will let go if you happen to lean on the handle. When pushed all the way down it locks in snuggly on top of the fixed handle which makes it very difficult to get back up again because grip point is blocked by fixed handle.

The HARD lance is very powerful, but there is a lot of blow back of debris and water which is very unpleasant, especially on vertical surfaces. It uses a rotating fine circular jet so you need to move slowly to get even results.

  Ambassador Review Compact

A Compact Powerhouse for Versatile Cleaning Needs – The K 4 Compact is a versatile and powerful tool that proved its worth in tackling a variety of cleaning tasks. Over the past month, I’ve used it to clean two cars (a hatchback and an SUV), an aircraft (a single-engine PA-151), a patio, and some outdoor furniture. Each task demonstrated the machine’s adaptability and efficiency, thanks to its two… Read more ·  1

spray lances: the Vario Power lance and the Dirtblaster.

The Vario Power lance is the more adjustable of the two, allowing you to tailor the pressure for different surfaces. It was particularly satisfying to use when spraying soap onto my cars, thanks to the detergent suction system. The washer efficiently mixed the detergent with water, and using the lance on its lowest pressure setting made the process safe for vehicle paintwork. Switching to maximum pressure with the Vario Power lance worked wonders on the wheels, blasting away brake dust with ease.

The Dirtblaster, on the other hand, is a specialist for tough jobs. It features a high-powered rotating jet that made short work of restoring the patio and outdoor furniture, cutting through grime and revealing their true colours. However, I only used this lance for surfaces that could handle the extra force, as the manual cautions against using it on delicate areas like vehicle paint.

Setup and usability are where the K 4 Compact truly shines. The initial setup was incredibly straightforward—plug it into the mains, connect a hose (standard quick-connect, though not included), and attach the gun. Swapping between lances was seamless, taking no more than five seconds. It’s lightweight and compact, with a travel handle and large wheels that make it easy to move around. That said, it’s not designed to be dragged around like a vacuum cleaner; you’ll need to keep it upright to avoid straining the connectors on its body.

The build quality is excellent, with durable materials that inspire confidence in its longevity. While the machine is loud, that’s expected for a pressure washer of this power. I appreciated its thoughtful design for cable and hose storage, which lets you neatly loop them onto its body after use. However, I did notice two areas for improvement:

The detergent suction hose gets soapy during use and isn’t the easiest to clean. Since the machine isn’t meant to be sprayed with water, cleaning this part by hand can be messy. A retractable mains cable, like those on vacuum cleaners, would make storage even more convenient.

Despite these minor inconveniences, the K 4 Compact delivers exceptional performance. Whether you’re cleaning vehicles, patios, or furniture, it’s a reliable and efficient tool that’s easy to use and maintain. I highly recommend it for anyone needing a compact yet powerful pressure washer.

KÄRCHER K4 ‘Compact’ High Pressure Washer (Incorporating The eco!Booster*130 Accessory) – The KÄRCHER K4 ‘Compact’ is an excellent high pressure washer, ready to take on the toughest jobs. It’s reasonably light and can be carried quite easily, or, alternatively, it can be pulled along on the two wheels that are attached to the unit. When delivered, the unit weighs in at around 10 kgs (packing carton included). The unit delivers 2,100… Read more ·  1

PSI through a water cooled 1900w electric motor. Water is delivered at around 7.0 l/minute (max), with an area efficiency of ca. 30 m²/h (for those who understand this). The K4 ‘Compact’ can draw water from either a garden hose connection, a bucket or from a water tank. It uses up to 80% less water than a garden hose. Assembly and disassembly is really very simple with a ‘twist and click’ and ‘push and click’ system. The eco!Booster*130 accessory did an excellent job lifting dried paint from some concrete and paving bricks, with its wide-spread of high pressure water and all without the use of any chemicals. Removing a build-up of spilled engine oil on concrete also showed great results. Although there is naturally going to be some residue when oil has been dropped and left to dry on a cement or paved floor, the K4 Compact did an excellent job in removing any of the surface build-up of the oil, showing a marked difference with a ‘before and after’ comparison. Of the two nozzles that come as standard issue with the K4 ‘Compact’, one of those nozzles has a ‘Hard’ to ‘Soft’ adjustment that is done by the simple twist of the wrist. It was like using a liquid shovel on the build-up. When using the eco!Booster*130 head that comes with this accessory, the job is well done, but to boost this operation even further, and just by removing the head, the power is concentrated somewhat, enough to almost remove completely, severe oil stains from paving bricks. The unit easily removed old dried paint stains from cement and paving stones. One of the features that I liked about the KÄRCHER is not being about to disconnect the high pressure hose after the unit has been turned off from water and power, until the trigger release has been activated, draining the hose of any residual pressure. The unit is well constructed and it has a reasonably small-sized footprint. It is easy to assemble, operate, and to disassemble, ready to store until the next job comes around.

Fair Incentive Ambassador Review Premium Power Control

An absolute beast ! (in the best possible way) – In the interests of full disclosure, the Karcher K4 Premium Power Control unit tested for the purposes of this review was supplied to me by the company at no cost. There were no assurances given as to the nature of the review I would provide as a result of testing the product. My new neighbour, a retired builder and TAFE building instructor… Read more ·  1

summed it up perfectly when he stated that this was without any doubt, the most powerful domestic pressure washer he had ever used. It was not an easy task to retrieve the unit from him, and I had to promise that he could borrow it again to finish cleaning the entire exterior areas of the house he recently purchased.

Attached is a video of the pressure washer in action with the Dirtblaster attachment. The power of the 2100 PSI water blast removed over 50 years of built up grime from my concrete stairs in a flash. This was one thing my neighbour needed for the large concrete areas around his house as well. He had anticipated the need to use a metal scraper to remove the worst of the grime, but the Dirtblaster ripped through it, just as easily as you will see in the video. At the end of the clip is a still image of the stairs after they had a chance to dry out, revealing a look that is as good as new. A delivery driver that regularly visits here has just asked why I had new stairs made, and could not believe they had simply been cleaned with the Karcher pressure washer.

The question begs to be asked as to if the amount of pressure this beast puts out is simply too much for a domestic situation? My neighbour found out the hard way, that you should not put any part of your body in front of the jet while running....it certainly bites. Yet, the rotating jets distribute the pressurised water in a nice and even manner. The amount of power did concern me when I went to clean accumulated moss and lichen from a DIY path that runs along the rear of my house. The path was made from bitumen and road base, and laid down about 50-60 years ago by the then owners of the house. I expected the gravel parts to be sent flying in all directions, but the unit did a fantastic job removing everything I wanted removed, but not causing any damage or severe erosion to the path itself, as can be seen in the before and after images attached.

Included with the unit as standard is an adjustable flow wand that will release a gentle trickle or medium strength spray, that can be used for washing windows, or the car, boat, motorbike, etc, without the risk of any damage. With a simple twist, the pressure can be increased to full strength to power through any situation.

An optional rotating brush, coupled with the simple detergent dispenser that is built in, are perfect for cleaning windows. Pressure is automatically controlled when you attach the brush down to the minimum, so there is zero risk of damage to delicate surfaces.

I have only had a few weeks to run this baby through its paces, and the only negative I can really find is that I now have a weapon that will tackle a load of extra jobs around the house, getting away for a round of golf is going to be more difficult. Oh, that, and trying to convince my neighbour that he has to return it when he borrows it.

Minor issue with the hose reel winder being stiff, but the more it is used, the easier and looser that is becoming, so I imagine that will be fine after a reasonable amount of use. It really is nit picking to say that is an issue, but I had to find something negative to say about this little beastie.

No matter what the task, you can't go wrong with this unit. I am looking forward to getting out and buying some of the available attachments for this, and you can be certain it is going to get a lot of use in a wide variety of applications. The quality of the build means it is going to last and manage every job I can throw at it. Sure you could buy cheaper units, and you could get more expensive units, but this is going to last a lot of years, survive any domestic task you throw at it, even light industrial tasks would be no problem. It will pay for itself over and over again.

HAD A BLAST! Once you start it’s hard to stop! – Thanks to the Ambassador campaign my son and I got to trial and keep this Karcher in exchange for an honest and thorough review. *I purchased the T7 Plus T-Racer accessory myself. We literally had a blast putting the “Karcher K4 premium power control” and its included attachments through its paces. It comes with an AMAZING 7 year warranty!!!! (5… Read more ·  1

years standard and an extra 2 years if you register your product on line.

It’s a pretty solid piece of kit. Construction quality is good. It uses mostly metal screws instead of plastic clips so it would be easy to disassemble if you needed to. It takes about half an hour to assemble and you’ll need a Philips head screw driver. You have the option to either read the instruction brochure or follow the assembly steps on the Karcher ‘Home and Garden’ app which has clear pictures and is a lot easier to follow. The app also gives lots of practical tips on every cleaning situation- worth a look.

The machine is quite hefty so they’ve included wheels and a telescopic handle which I couldn’t seem to get to lock into place.

It comes with 3 different attachments: the power control gun (with 3 variable pressure settings and one detergent setting) the dirt blaster (the most powerful and my favourite) and the vario power jet (with adjustable pressure).

The karcher stone and paving cleaner solution is available to purchase as an added extra. I bought a 1 litre bottle from Bunnings for $13.60 but the K4 worked so well on its own that we didn’t end up needing to use it. I plan to exchange it for the universal cleaner because I figure can then use it for more than just pavers.

There is a range of compatible accessories for every application and I purchased from Bunnings the Karcher “T7 Plus T-Racer surface cleaner” attachment, (compatible with models K4-K7) @ $149, for cleaning the pavers. Absolutely brilliant attachment and highly recommended! So much fun to use! On the medium setting it made quick and light work of cleaning a large area of pavers. It had a stronger setting option but we chose to stick to the medium as we found the medium cleaned the pavers adequately, and we wanted to avoid dislodging more grout than necessary, which was our main priority.

*Once it dried however we saw that it actually removed more grout than we thought so I suggest you start on the lowest setting and work your way up. We will need to brush in some polymeric sand to fill in some grout gaps but this seems to be part and parcel of using any pressure cleaner on pavers and wasn’t unexpected. Hard to avoid dislodging grout unless you use a smaller attachment (like the eco!booster 130 accessory - see my other review) and go over each individual paver meticulously avoiding the grout. Time consuming and impractical for large areas though so it’s a trade off.

Next we cleaned one of my teak outdoor chairs. I didn’t listen to my son and was a bit too gung-ho and hit it hard with the dirt blaster attachment. It seemed to be working a treat and came up the most amazing golden/orange colour just like new again ….until it dried … that’s when I realised that it wasn’t as gentle as I thought. It had a few raised splinters and the surface was a bit rough and pitted. Nothing a light sanding won’t fix, but probably not the best choice on teak furniture. I’d recommend buying and using the Eco!Booster 130 accessory for this instead. (I have posted 3 photos of the chair:before, during and after).

I hadn’t used my Weber Q in over 7 years simply because I’d lost the dust cover and it was just too dirty, both inside and out, covered with dust, grime, mildew and wasps nests. I just couldn’t bring myself to clean it. Well….I blasted it clean plus the trolley it sits on all in under 5 min!!!! AMAZING!!! (It doesn’t look like new again and still retains its seasoned patina - but it’s clean!)

Overall, we’re very impressed with the K4 premium power control. It’s plenty powerful for domestic use and so satisfying to use that once you start you’ll find it hard to stop looking around for other things to clean!

What? Cleaning outdoor areas is fun?! – We recently received the Karcher K4 compact cleaner to test it. I’ll admit, I had no expectations and thought we’d test it on the outdoor area to clean the pavers as the local birds had left their mark! second cleaning arm that came with it, the ‘Dirt Blaster’ to tackle the limestone retaining wall and steps that frames our front garden. The wall and steps had not been cleaned at all in 14 years and you can tell. See the second video below. There is also a photo if the steps and wall post cleaning.

The Dirt Blaster did what you would expect with a name like that. The ingrained dirt was literally blasted away. I could not believe how well it worked. It was super satisfying. Be warned, if you choose to get one of these you might find yourself looking for what you can clean next!

I then tackled the bird bath. It was pretty gross. See the before and after pics. Looks so much better now.

The unit is heavier than expected but not hard to move around with a long outdoor extension cord fitted as well as retractable hose. The handle is sturdy and the wheels work well.

At current retail prices this unit presents good value for money. Just be warned, you might have too much fun and spend more time cleaning than originally anticipated!

Cumbersome but very effective – Out of the box I was immediately impressed by the solid build of the K4 cleaner. Unlike some of the cheaper high pressure cleaners on the market (which I have previously used and owned), the components of this unit is very well build, with thick plastics, firm fittings and solidly put together. In fact, maybe this is robbing 'Peter to pay Paul' as… Read more ·  1

the unit is very heavy and hard to carry and move around. There are some clever little facilities, like the pouch for carrying the power cord, the roll up wheel for the hose and the attachment holder. Two additional functions would really help usability - 1. a pull up handle for wheeling around, like we all have on our suitcases these days and 2. rubberized wheels. I appreciate this would add most cost to the unit.

I was concerned because of its bulk, when washing my vehicles I would have to move the unit around. Fortunately, the K4 has a massively long hose, so the unit can be kept several metres away, allowing water to not get near the unit (for safety), and secondly allows for the unit to stay in one spot whilst your do your cleaning. This is a massive improvement on other cleaners I've used previously, where I have had to move the unit around with me.

The cleaning head is good in that it is easily adjustable for pressure, and has a meter on the handle for knowing instantly what the pressure level is at. (note - car duco can get damaged when at the highest setting).

The unit (like all cleaners is very noisy), but somewhat ironically I found it quieter on the highest pressure setting (a whistle is heard at the low setting).

My biggest frustration came from the laughably small instruction diagrams for assembly. I had to take a picture of each on my phone and then zoom in to actually view it and work it out.

Overall the K4 is a great cleaner, easy to use once set up - however is very heavy and cumbersome to move around and set up and put away.

Best pressure washer I have ever used – I replaced my old Karcher pressure washer with the lastest K4 power control. This washer easily cleaned the pattern concrete and sandstone around the large surrounding pool area. The washer come with complete control being able to lower the pressure so you can clean the garden furniture without damaging the paint work. I can not say enough about this cleaner as what was hard work before which took all day was no cleaned in around 3 hours.

Cheap quality built rubbish with limited life span – Used it once to clean the driveway and it never worked again. I rang the local supplier who asked if I used an extension lead for the power and a long hose for the water supply. When I asked If it could be repaired he said that they don't touch anything below a k5 as the other models are made of plastic and not worth the bother. The message I got was that it is cheap rubbish with no build quality, yet they still sell them to suckers like me. Lesson learned.

  Fair Incentive Ambassador Review Compact

4.5/5***** – Excellent for everyday jobs and small spaces with minor design quirks – First up, I’d like to disclose that I’ve been offered the Kärcher K4 Compact Pressure Washer by productreview.com.au to test as part of their Ambassador program. I have been using the unit for various jobs for around a month now, and this review aims to present a fair assessment based on that experience. As apartment dwellers with limited storage,… Read more ·  2

my wife and I were actually on the lookout for a pressure washer that would fit our cleaning needs without demanding an enormous footprint in our storage area. The K4 Compact, with its compact build, fits the bill perfectly, so this was a rather fortuitous opportunity. Here’s how it performed on various fronts.

### Unboxing and Setup

The Kärcher K4 Compact arrives in a thoughtfully packed box, with everything nestled securely. Shame about the use of polystyrene when some biodegradable, moulded cardboard surely would have done the trick. Straight out of the box, the pressure washer main unit is quite compact and feels solid in hand. With dimensions of 348mm x 308mm x 520mm and a net weight of 11kg, it’s not feather-light, but considerably more manageable than many other units with similar PSI output. For reference, fully loaded with accessories, it weighs about 14kg.

The setup process is mostly straightforward, thanks to Kärcher’s clear instructions. The unit connects seamlessly to any standard 1/2" plastic garden hose quick fitting. Not surprisingly we had these fittings on hand everywhere we planned to use the washer during this trial, our residential building's car wash bay and our parent's(-in-laws) back yard. That said, it’s also worth mentioning that, should you lack direct access to a water supply, the K4 Compact can draw water from large buckets or laundry tubs. It even accommodates water sources like rainwater tanks if paired with Kärcher's or comparable optional filter attachment (to protect the pump and other internal parts against damage from debris), a notable advantage for those wanting to use a sustainable water supply.

The K4’s ability to handle hot feed water up to 40°C is a particularly valuable feature. For tougher grime, this capability provides an added level of cleaning power.

### Build Quality and Design

The Kärcher K4 Compact was designed and engineered in Germany and manufactured in one of Kärcher’s European plants (possibly in Italy or Lithuania). The build quality reflects the brand’s reputation, with a robust feel in both the body and its components that inspires confidence that this unit should be more than capable of enduring regular use.

From a design perspective, it’s compact, but there’s a caveat. While the front cover of the unit has a designated groove intended for storing the high-pressure hose, this feature is unfortunately flawed. The groove on the top theoretically works well enough to hold the hose in place, but without a counterpart groove at the bottom, the hose has a habit of uncoiling itself. I solved this by sewing a Velcro strap to the hose, which now allows me to securely tie the hose into a neat loop and hang up in the intended spot. Kärcher would do well to address this storage issue, especially seeing as it can be mitigated in such a simple and cost-effective manner.

One other area where the K4 Compact’s design could use improvement is the power cable storage. Despite its small form factor, the K4 doesn’t provide a clear place for the power cord. Photos of the product often display the power cable wound around the front storage space, seemingly replacing the high-pressure hose (like you would only ever want to stow one or the other at a time). This lack of dedicated storage for the mains cable is a slight inconvenience, as it can’t be bundled up neatly and stored on or within the unit itself. Again, I’ve resorted to using a Velcro strap to keep the cable tidy, hanging it over the retractable handle in between uses. So, please note that the Velcro straps seen in my 3rd photo are NOT stock items but part of my little hack ;) Perhaps an optional cable spool accessory would add to the K4’s appeal and functionality.

### Compact Size and Portability

As advertised, the K4 Compact is notably more space-efficient than many other models with similar specifications. At approximately 2100 psi and a flow rate of 7 litres per minute, it delivers ample power without the bulk of larger washers. This compactness has been a real benefit for us as we don’t wish to sacrifice our limited space to store a full-size pressure washer, and the K4 Compact provides a great balance of power and storage efficiency.

However, while ideal for minimising the storage footprint, the extendible handle feels slightly short for taller users. At 6’1”, I found myself having to stoop a bit when moving it around. A telescopic handle with multiple segments, like those commonly found on hard shell travel cases, could have made it more ergonomic for users of all heights.

### Performance and Cleaning Power

In terms of performance, the K4 Compact stands its ground firmly. Its 2100 psi output provides a powerful stream, which we found more than sufficient for a variety of tasks. Over the past month, I’ve used it to tackle everything from cleaning algae-stained outdoor pavers, smaller items like our kitchen foot pedal rubbish bin to our vehicle and even some seriously stubborn stains in our building's car wash bay. While I wouldn't expect any outright miracles, from any consumer-level pressure washer, the results were generally quite impressive. As a rule of thumb, I'd say that dirt and stains that can otherwise be removed by hand with water, perhaps with the addition of some detergent, and a varying degree of elbow grease, can be removed or at least greatly reduced using the K4 Compact with one of the included attachments. However, any stains that cannot be lifted by hand in this manner are unlikely to yield under pressure and may well require a more aggressive approach and the use of more powerful solvents or other chemical cleaning products.

Speaking of attachments, the K4 Compact unit we received comes with two interchangeable wands/nozzles out of the box that attach to the also included Quick Connect trigger gun: the Vario Power Spray (VPS) lance, which has a fan-shaped spray pattern and an adjustable flow and pressure, and the so-called Dirt Blaster nozzle that uses a highly focused thin stream with very high pressure that spins around in a circular pattern. While the former is great for most everyday tasks since it allows adjusting the intensity of the water jet without the need to change tools, the latter is your go-to for more serious, harder-to-clean jobs. We also received the separately sold eco!Booster 130 attachment, which again has a flat, fan-shaped but even wider spray pattern for maximum time-saving efficiency, and for which I am writing a separate review. The availability of a plethora of compatible accessories, such as Kärcher’s range of foaming snow cannons, gutter cleaning kits, and longer high-pressure hoses, expands the washer’s versatility even further.

To test the main unit and the two included standard attachments, my wife and I took our side-by-side garbage and recycling rubbish bin and our car down to the car wash bay in our underground car park. Since we last cleaned it, then only using a regular garden hose, our bin had seen its fair share of "missed deposits" with various kinds of dry, wet, sticky and even greasy waste staining the edges around the two removable buckets. Yuck! Our car too had not seen the business end of a hose for a while and needed a good clean, including getting the copious amounts of brake pad dust and oily grime off the alloy wheels, a job that's particularly unpleasant and time-consuming using regular water pressure and mechanical scrubbing.

We used the VPS lance for both the bin and car as it would allow us to start with lower pressure and then ramp things up if and when necessary. Starting with the rubbish bin it immediately paid off. Even on the lowest setting, we found the pressure was sufficient to essentially blast off all the dirt and grime from inside and outside the bin without being so forceful as to blow the thing away. More to prove that point, I later tried the high-pressure setting on the bin and when hitting the open lid it simply blew the whole thing over, despite it having a considerable weight being a rolled metal shell. So, as a general rule, when doing smaller cleaning jobs or working on more delicate items, it's a good idea to start with the variable pressure on the lowest setting. For the bin, we had a great result after probably a minute or two of blasting the thing from all angles. One caveat worth pointing out: do expect to get wet and quite possibly dirty whenever you use a pressure washer! It's just inevitable, no matter what any manufacturer might want to sell. If you hit an object at just the right or wrong angle, even with a relatively low-pressure jet, you'll find more or less dirty water, depending on what you're pointing at, spraying in every direction.

Moving on to the car, we started by covering our car with a thick layer of soapy foam using an attachment we purchased some years ago that connects to the regular garden hose and mains water pressure. I'm eyeballing one of Kärcher’s so-called snow cannon attachments that instead connect to the pressure washer and promise to produce a much much thicker foam. After this pre-treatment, we switched to the K4 and the VPS at the high setting and started to blast the car from the roof down. Most areas required no or only very little manual scrubbing with the shaggy sponge we've been using to clear our car for a couple of years now to get a perfectly clear finish with no traces of tree sap, road dirt, dead insects and the usual array of dirt seen on an unwashed car, even one that's generally parked underground. The difference to using just regular water pressure was immediately noticeable, not only, as I said, did we require virtually no or only very little scrubbing, limited to one or two areas with particularly stubborn stains that looked oily and would possibly have come off with a bit more detergent in the mix or using warm water with the K4, the amount of time and reduced amount of water we used was impressive. But the biggest stand out for us by far was the ease and speed at which we were able to clear our wheels. Making sure not to point the spray at the rubber tyres and air valves, we watched the brown-grey caked-on mix of road dirt and brake pad dust that deposits on every surface and in every nook and cranny of our wheels be blasted off generally at the first pass of the jet. Cleaning all four wheels probably took no longer than 2 minutes all up. We didn't bother with moving the car a few inches to allow hitting every spoke from all angles for full coverage of all surfaces, accepting that we'd be left with a few dirty spots here and there, as we've grown to accept from doing this job by hand. But, even at this level that normally takes several minutes of scrubbing wheel after wheel with a sponge that gets absolutely soaked with filthy, oily water in the process and needs constant, repeat cleaning lest the same greasy dirt transfers onto the painted bodywork of the car. It's normally a dreadful and dirty job but with the pressure washer, it's just a breeze!

While the K4’s stock 6-metre high-pressure hose is generally adequate for most cleaning tasks, those needing a bit more reach might want to consider Kärcher’s longer hose options. Personally, I haven’t felt the need to upgrade yet, as the included length has been sufficient for cleaning both our car and the smallish outdoor spaces we've worked on. Nevertheless, knowing that longer variants are readily available is another plus.

We didn't have an opportunity to test this, but a stand-out feature of the K4 Compact is the option to use hot water of up to 40°C. This adds yet another dimension to its cleaning capabilities, which I would expect to be especially helpful when dealing with greasy or oily stains that often require higher temperatures to break down effectively. And from what I understand it's not a feature that can be taken for granted at this price point.

While the machine itself performs consistently, be prepared to invest in an extension cord if your intended cleaning area lacks a conveniently placed power outlet. The power cord is somewhat shorter than ideal, yet even so, without a dedicated storage solution, it does have a bit of a tendency to tangle up, on itself or with the pressure hose and it can get in the way at times, but all these feel like small hurdles to overcome.

### Noise Levels and Water Efficiency

Unfortunately, I lack the technical facilities to accurately measure the noise level and this is merely a subjective assessment of how I perceived things, but compared to other pressure washers I've used in the past, the K4 Compact felt reasonably quiet during use. It does produce the typical grating noise commonly associated with pressure washers but not at a level where I would have felt uncomfortable using it in our apartment complex or in a backyard despite the close proximity to our next-door neighbours on either side.

The efficiency of this unit also deserves praise. With its flow rate and pressure, it manages to complete most tasks quickly, conserving both water and electricity. I can’t measure exact energy usage, but our overall experience and visibly gauging the amount of water run-off over the relatively short amount of time needed to get the job done suggests to me that it’s economical to operate.

### Maintenance and Ease of Use

Operating and maintaining the K4 Compact has been straightforward so far. Kärcher’s user-friendly design makes it easy to quickly assemble and disassemble the main components and I expect that keeping the machine in top condition requires only basic maintenance. For anyone looking for a durable, low-fuss appliance, the K4 Compact is an ideal candidate.

I also appreciate the option to register the device for an additional two-year warranty on top of the standard five-year warranty. Having peace of mind with a long warranty period is invaluable, especially for an appliance like a pressure washer that potentially gets a fair amount of wear and tear.

### Potential Improvements

While overall I’ve been pleased with the K4 Compact’s design and performance, there are a few areas where minor improvements could still make a significant difference:

- Hose Storage: As noted, the advertised hose storage feature on the front is suboptimal. Adding a bottom "groove" counterpart to the one on top of the unit's front panel combined with the addition of a Velcro strap attached to the pressure hose would be a simple yet effective enhancement.

- Power Cord Length and Storage: A longer and ideally retractable power cable or an add-on cable spool accessory for storing the cord would really improve the K4 Compact’s usability.

- Adjustable Handle Length: While the retractable handle saves space, adding an adjustable, telescopic feature and a little more length to the handle would make it more comfortable for taller users.

### Final Verdict

I reckon the Kärcher K4 Compact Pressure Washer is an outstanding choice for anyone who needs a powerful cleaning tool but lacks the space for a bulkier full-sized washer. Its compact build, high-quality construction, and versatile features make it a valuable addition to any apartment or small household. The hot water capability and extensive range of accessories add to its appeal, allowing it to tackle a broad range of cleaning jobs with ease.

Despite a few design quirks, such as the only semi-functional hose storage and somewhat limited power cord length, the K4 Compact’s strengths outweigh these minor inconveniences. For apartment dwellers or anyone with limited storage, this pressure washer strikes an excellent balance between power and portability.

Overall, I confidently rate the Kärcher K4 Compact at 4.5 out of 5 stars. Its compact design, German engineering quality, and impressive power make it a worthy investment for anyone looking to elevate their cleaning routine without compromising on storage space.

  Ambassador Review Premium Power Control

Impressive power washer – Received the Karcher K4 Premium Power Control to test out – rather handy given I have a few things to use it on. Mission #1 was putting it together. It comes with a QR code but required too much faffing about for me. I couldn’t work out where the online instructions were so resorted to the booklet it came with. The instruction booklet has the… Read more ·  1

assembly diagrams on Pages 2 to 4. The actual written instructions that relate to these diagrams are on Page 8. Not very logical, nor helpful. It was pretty easy to put together using just the diagrams but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out the wheel situation so jumped on the old faithful Youtube. Boy did I feel dumb, but its together and it works.

The onboard storage for both the vario power and power control spray lances is really handy. Attaching the high pressure hose to the gun level was a bit of a struggle for me (I have arthritis) but I managed it click it in with a bit of brute force (now I can’t get it out but, c’est la vie). It wheels around quite easily thanks to the telescoping handle on top which did require a bit of force to get it to stay extended and a good wack to get it to drop down again. Its quite a heavy unit as you would expect, however still light enough for me to cart it up and down stairs if I need to.

The high pressure hose seems quite sturdy and sits within the hose reel rather snug – this turned out to be a little bit of an issue when trying to extend the hose while using it as it seemed to get stuck on 2-3 occasions. The power cord is nice and long, but you do obviously need to be aware of its whereabouts when you're using it (because of the water + electricity issue).

It does have a detergent connector however mine did not come with any detergent. I was however excited at the thought of some car wash to wash the car with, however a subsequent search online came up empty.

Mission #2 using it. Boy is that loads of fun (I’ve secretly always wanted one). Quite frankly I was expecting this to be a bit hard on the joints - it wasn’t. In fact it was very easy to just stand there moving the lance back and forth while spraying high pressure water onto the annoying moss clinging to the concrete patio. The patio came up a treat. I initially tried the vario power power lance but it just gave the moss a good clean so resorted to the power control spray lance which had that moss running for cover in no time. It was brilliant. Once I removed all the nasties I rounded it all off with the ecobooster (just because I could) to wash away all the dirty water that started pooling in place.

Its very easy to swap the attachments, very easy to turn on and off, not too heavy that you can’t lift it up and down stairs if you need to, easy to setup (once its assembled) and easy to pack away after use. Oh and the trigger has a handy little button that holds the trigger button down so you don't have to strain your finger haha!

Yes, I would recommend this product to females (even ones with arthritis) in fact I recommend this to anyone that needs a high pressure washer. Its loads of fun to use and very effective at removing years of built up grime and moss on concrete, wood and whatever (provided you have the right attachment and pressure).

Is it possibly a bit too strong for domestic use? I don't know, but I really enjoyed using it and as mentioned before, its really effective. I’m going to use it on the front pathways in the coming weeks (they’re also covered in years of built-up moss and dirt) and if I can find a car wash to fit the detergent dispenser, I’ll be washing the car this year too!

  Fair Incentive Ambassador Review Compact

Excellent for small to medium cleaning! Some small improvements wouldn't go astray – The Kärcher K4 Compact is a great little pressure washer for domestic use, with some smart design choices and a few things that could be improved. Here’s what I’ve found after putting it to use: Assembly & Pressure Performance: Right off the bat, this pressure washer is incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble. You’re not fumbling with complex… Read more ·  1

parts, which makes setup a breeze. When it’s up and running, the pressure is solid — you can actually feel it push back a bit when you pull the trigger, which gives a nice sense of its cleaning power. Perfect for medium-duty tasks like washing cars or patios.

Retractable Handle & Hose: The retractable handle is a nice touch for mobility, especially for moving it around or storing it. It’s just a bit stubborn at the top; unless you give it a strong pull, it doesn’t fully latch, and that can get annoying. A button release, similar to travel luggage, would be a smart upgrade here. The hose itself is lightweight, which makes it easier to maneuver, especially for longer cleaning sessions.

Detergent Suction Tub: The detergent suction tub is a win for anyone who washes their car frequently. You can add detergent directly, making it a lot simpler to apply a cleaning solution. But be warned: it needs a good rinse after use to keep things running smoothly.

Attachments & Storage: Now, while it comes with a few attachments, I honestly found myself struggling to find specific uses for them. They’re not bad, but adding a couple more versatile ones might make this a more appealing base product. The instructions don’t make storage straightforward, either. I think I’ve put the attachments in their holsters correctly, but it wasn’t very clear.

A couple of gripes; Firstly, there’s nowhere to holster the nozzle. It’s a small thing but would make a difference in keeping everything organized. And secondly, the hose storage doesn’t quite work as shown on the box. There’s a deep groove on top, but nothing deep enough on the bottom (see in photos), so the hose doesn’t wrap neatly around the front.

Wheels: The wheels are made of hard plastic, which makes them feel a bit cheap and flimsy for what’s otherwise a robust machine. Some rubber wheels would give it a sturdier, premium feel and help with mobility on uneven surfaces.

Overall: All in all, the Kärcher K4 Compact is a handy pressure washer for home use. It’s mobile, compact, and has enough power for most medium-duty jobs. A few design tweaks would take it from good to great, but if you’re after something easy to use and store, this one is worth a look.

Big and powerful – The machine itself is wonderful once it's set up and ready to go ..... but heaven's almighty, getting to that was a frustrating experience. I'm someone who can usually just look at it and work things out but I do love to read a manual and make sure I'm doing things correctly, even more so when it comes to machinery. Unfortunately for me, the… Read more ·  1

manual that comes with this thing takes the most illogical format possible with the assembly instructions. Instead of putting the diagram, illustrations and written instructions remotely near each other, they are all separated and require flipping between multiple pages to identify the part, read the written instruction and look at the illustration to show the referenced information. Even more unfortunate, the QR code that tell you to scan and find videos and other information did not take me to anything helpful with the assembly. Many days later I found one section on their website that does actually give the assembly instructions in a linear format, with all relevant information for each step collated together. So a few hours of extreme frustration wore me out greatly and kind of put me off even wanting to try it out, but I preserved because I'm stubborn like that. In the end, after many tantrums and a day of recovery, it finally came together. The build is really good, when you get to the point of being able to appreciate it. For me, that took a while.

The pressure is great, and I love that the air pressure hose is on a reel. The extra storage for attachments and the lances is helpful. I love that the top handle extends so I can wheel it with much more ease (although my handle doesn't seem to stay up a lot of the time so not sure if it's meant to or if its faulty), and I think this is vital considering the unit is out-of-this-world heavy (at least for me). There is no way I could lift and move this thing with any kind of regularity so I like that it's design does consider it to not be moved much, and when it is moved it's done without much effort.

One big confusion for me is the Plug n Clean detergent system. Despite the advertised product information I could find on several websites, and the manual referencing it, I thought the detergent dispensing bottle came with the unit. I didn't have one come with mine and it seems online there is a mix of references to it being included or an additional extra. It's not a big deal for my use case (yet) but it would be good if they made it clear beyond doubt whether that is an item that is entirely purchased separately.

The maintenance, from what I can work out is pretty simple. Not much different to maintaining a regular air compressor, with the addition of draining water hoses.

For me my needs are pretty simple and I probably don't need something quite this high powered, but it sure is nice to have as I learn more about just how much I can use it on and expand the frequency of use around my home. For now, it's doing a wonderful job with my outdoor pavers, car, fences and eaves & gutters.

Karcher K4 - Compact and Powerful – This Karcher K4 Compact pressure washer is a compact (hence the name) unit that weighs about 11kg so it’s easy to transport and smallenough to not take up too much space in my small garage. The included Dirt blaster and Vario Power Jet lances fit into the back of the unit. Although the website states the 6m high pressure hose and power cable can… Read more ·  1

be wrapped around the front of the unit, this wasn’t the case. I also felt the telescopic handle wasn’t easy to extend when it was retracted but this could be due to the unit being new.

The build quality of this washer is what I’d expect from a known brand like Karcher and more importantly, it was what I needed to clean up the back patio. With the rains recently, a lot of dirt and moss have covered the floor. Using the Dirt blaster, I was able to remove the dirt and stains on the floor compared to the Vario Power Jet on high. However, it also removed some of the paint but this is normal due to the age of the paint. Both lances didn’t feel overly weighty and I was able to use it single handed.

Washing the car using the K4 was enjoyable as the pressure allowed me to rinse off the dirt after applying shampoo. It's got me interested to get the additional accessories such as the foam nozzle too.

This pressure washer meets my needs to clean the floors and wash the car as it's compact enough to easily move it around but more importantly, it doesn't take up too much space to store.

Pretty good but pricey – I own quite a number of pressure washers including a k2, k3, k4 full control premium, ryobi 2000psi, gerni 1450psi. The k4 performs like the ryobi which has similar specs. handy.

The wand indicator is good letting you know if you have a pressure issue. I was only hitting med pressure and followed youtube vid on replacing the cylinder head for $70 and it was good as new. The water cooled system gives me confidence to run without giving it a break too often.

Bad points are the hose curls a lot. Solution is to go after market and also get a swivel connector. The issue I had when replacing my cylinder head was snapping the plastic on/off Shaft. Had to diy glue it together again and expand the hole to fit the e-box. I should have siliconed the gap but unless it springs a leak I don't think there's any danger but might seal up in future if I take it apart again.

Gerni might be a better buy but ability to fix myself, parts and vast info out there to fix makes it my choice. I somehow feel gerni lances are designed better as my 1450psi one performs like it has 1800psi.

I disagree karcher is not as good as they use to be for k4 and above. Poor reviews are probably due to user error like not purging water and taking basic care. K5 is probably the ideal model as I've at times thought a bit more power would be good but there is a very significant price difference for just 10% more psi and flow. K4 is kind of the sweet spot in terms of karcher value.

cheaper machines. I use the soap gun attachment (sold seperately) to soap up the car first and then high pressure wash the car to get as much dirt off as I can before I even touch the car with a sponge. Then I wash with the two bucket method and final rinse with the high pressure sprayer. I always use it on high as its the perfect pressure for car washing. The high setting is perfectly safe for your car's paint. I work at a place with a commercial wash bay with a high pressure sprayer running at 2900 psi so I know this Karcher consumer unit running 1900 psi is perfectly safe. You don't have to use Karcher products in the soap gun attachment. I use a small amount of Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo and Conditioner topped up with water in the soap gun. This is the same product I use for washing, so no need to buy multiple products. I highly recommend this pressure washer. I see some other reviewers have had issues but I don't think you need to worry with that 7 year warranty. I see some have also used this for commercial purposes. This is not a commercial product. It is a home use product. If you need something for a commercial application go to a company like Spitwater and get a commercial machine for your purposes. If you want a unit for home car/boat washing or other small jobs, spend the extra money and get this one!

His Total Tools account is NOT a business account. I called and emailed Karcher customer service to explain that this was an error and that the company name my husband entered does not even exist on Asic or with the ATO and that this is for personal use. I’m not dishonest and if it was purchased for business then I would definitely accept this. It has been and still is an ongoing argument with Karcher and I’m not one to give up. After reading the reviews I have accepted that they are simply not going to repair it without charging us. My husband took the machine apart which is flimsy and made very cheaply considering it costs $500. He found a crack in plastic pipe to the main motor..I will now battle with them to send me a new part. There is no appreciation from some businesses nowadays for loyalty of custom. What a piece of junk..... again! – Purchased this 2 years ago from Bunnings. Used it 4 times and lo and behold ......leaks from the pump unit. It’s out of warranty so not much choice to either pay Karcher to fix it or assign it to the scrap heap. I would suggest that now this is my second one that leaked ....That there is a design fault with the model.  Show details

question it afterwards.

When the proof of purchase was sent, it was stated by head office that because the unit was booked in under a Company name because I was wearing a company uniform (it is a personally owned and purchased unit).

Karcher warranty's are not worth anything and stay right away from Karcher Eastern Creek - I've bought a replacement part from there - wrong part. They're useless and have no idea what they are doing.
