BEWARE Insure&Go for VERY HIGH Travel Insurance Policy Cancellation Fees. I recently Paid $386.36 for an International Travel Insurance Policy with Insure&Go for my Wife & I. clearly a NON pre-existing Health issue. However, I decided to contact Insure&Go to check with them re this unexpected event. This to confirm if my Wife was still FULLY covered by this Policy.
Insure&Go dutifully trotted out their definition of a Pre-Existing Health issue. After their response, I still had lingering doubts as to whether Insure&Go would honour the "small print" in their TI Policy.
So... later and after the Cooling Off Period had expired, I decided to lodge a query about a Cancellation Refund.
For Travel Insurance Cancellations after the Cooling Off Period has expired - the Insure&Go Website states...
QUOTE ... a Pro Rata Refund will be issued LESS Government Charges and Taxes. UNQUOTE
THERE IS NO MENTION OF A/ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICE FEE.
Insure&Go (only) offered me a $187.27 Pro Rata Refund.
This is LESS than half of my original Purchase price of $386.36 !!!
In Victoria, Stamp Duty and GST are both nominally 10% each. So... Fees & Charges were approx $75.
That clearly indicates Insure&Go have retained a HUGE Service Fee of approx $125 for this Cancellation request.
When I queried the LOW magnitude of this Refund, Insure&Go replied with this...
QUOTE ... refunds are calculated follows the process set by AFCA (The Australian Financial Complaints Authority). UNQUOTE
With no apparent recourse available... all I can say is this...
BEWARE Insure&Go for VERY HIGH Policy Cancellation Fees.
Since I have proof that my Wife's unexpected Health issue was only "actioned" AFTER the Date I paid for this Travel Insurance Policy, I have decided NOT to follow thru with a Cancellation Request.
However, I will NEVER again use Insure&Go for my future Travel Insurance needs.

care of EVERYTHING. It is SO important to take out travel/medical insurance...dont think it will never happen to you or your precious family! I was travelling for work while in Bali and both my friend and I became incredibly unwell. We ended up both on IVs. The doctor and nurse actually came to our hotel. They were amazing..the care was second to none! The insurance company I had intially taken out a policy with was not helpful and declined our claim! Which in hindsight was a godsend as I then found Insurengo and never looked back! On my last trip to the US and found Insurengo at least $200 cheaper than the other company's out there. I have also recommended this amazing company to others who have found feeling safe and kmowing its an Australian owned and operated group! Even when the world shut down with Covid, I was supposed to travel to India that week Insure and Go were on the ball, contacting me, to help me thru my claim. Follow-up · I have never had any issue with the claim I had and it was when our world was just closed down for covid. Insure and go were fabulous, claim was paid in full and I had gold cover, I always take the top cover. accommodation expenses incurred due to this event, our claim was denied as we were "not covered for a travel delay".
This company will use whatever means available to deny your claim. Why provide coverage for a natural disaster at all if you then deny claims attributed to a natural disaster.
When an event occurs and you need support, don't count on InsureandGo to be there for you.
Update: InsureandGo contacted me via phone to discuss my review. They stuck to the narrative that Natural Disaster coverage is only applicable to your level of cover.....weasal words. If that's the case, clearly define on the "add-on" page what is covered and not covered with each option, as the current wording does not sufficiently broadcast the limitations. As things stand, the Natural Disaster add-on coverage seems to be nothing more than a way to extract extra money from people.
Our claim was for a minor amount of money ($400 minus excess), I am just thankful that our claim was not for a substantial amount.
Follow-up · Excess was $100 (this isn't paid unless the claim is successful). The natural disaster was a typhoon which shut down all transportation leaving Cebu. Left us stranded with short time to find accommodation.
I found it to be very competitive and I have a serious medical background issues that have cost me many dollars elsewhere, this covered them and allowed me to take a trip without taking a mortgage out! Very pleased, policy was also easy to fill out and I will be using them again Show details

could not use our stop overs in the UAE, (3days) and Malaysia, (10 days) as we could not enter those places with an emergency Passport. our flights were cancelled with no refund. We had to re-book flights where we could not leave the international side of the airports to get home. the trip home took 27 hours. We put a claim in with Insure & Go which was knocked back. they told us that if my passport had been stolen or lost they would have paid out. But as my passport was damaged they said they knocked back my claim. It quite clearly states in their advertising, "Cancellations: trip cancellation covers for unforeseen events like injury, illness or because of other reasons outlined in the PDS." Don't trust them!

we were going through 5 countries we thought it best we had it covered. We're pretty careful so avoided places in Italy where pickpockets are rife (like the metros), and had a great trip with no need to claim. I know claims are always the hard part and that I cannot comment on that process, hence "full five stars", the main reason for this is I felt we had the cover we needed and when we got back they sent us an email in case we needed to raise a claim. I appreciated that email, and felt like they weren't just playing "we've got your money, now get lost" like many insurers. Now we've used them, I'd use them again, they were a little expensive but I guess they have to cover risks with people with pre-existing medical conditions and at least I felt having told them and having these accepted was peace of mind.
Follow-up · Just to follow up, we didn't need to claim anything, as you always hope not to. I was encouraged though by them sending a follow up email that basically said "if you have any claim to make here's how to do it", that was refreshing and encouraged me that they do want to service those in need.

I originally got the quote online which was reasonable and was about to pay, as the price was comparable and actually more reasonable than a couple of others I had dealt with. I was about to hit the button to pay but realized I hadn't answered my husband's medical questions. A quick phone call, with only a short wait I had a lovely human to talk to. I got that sorted and was again going to pay when I realized that this time, I had incorrectly answered a question. I phoned back and I was quickly on the line to a very helpful lady who actually went through all the questions again with me and checked to see if it would make any difference to the end price. It did not, so she actually emailed me back the quote within a short period of time. All done and purchased in no time at all. Hopefully I won't have to make a claim, but at this stage, to have peace of mind is a big step towards our great get-away.
