This product was previously known as the ghd V Gold Max.
The heating is set to 180° and you can't make it any hotter. They claim it is to prevent burning of the hair however , with some hair it needs slightly hotter. My hair since birth is extremely frizzy and the heating isn't hot enough, it takes a longer time to straighten my hair with this. I think 200 minimum works best for me. Also comparing to… Read more
other companies for some reason ghd always lets off this toxic smell and I need a face mask on, if I don't I get dizzy and extremely tired like I'll pass out so I'm not sure what the thing is made of but it is definitely toxic. The design is light and doesn't burn you when using it which I like and the device lasts a long time without breaking but I did compare my latest ghd gold max to one from 2012 and the older one works slightly better. I also have an old Remington and it works amazing with just a couple of passes, even though heavier and bulky it's working better for my hair. Ghd just takes too long and the frizz comes back and the curls too within an hour or two. I just bought a silver bullet so I'm hoping it works better as I can pick which temperature I want.
Don't waste your money this hair straightener does not work on thick hair it takes a very long time you have to go over each section about four times and the next day it is not straight anymore my old straightener was fantastic before it died I only… Read more
had to do my hair once a week and it stayed straight and now it's already fluffy the next day... really disappointed!
Follow-up · My old straightener was a NUK with narrow plates, still worked better. There are no different settings there is one temperature and that's it and it's not hot enough for thick curly hair. Telling people what heat is best for their own hair is a mistake I believe. Have options and let the customer decide. Feels ok to hold..
Returning it on the 2nd time – Bought this on Dec 2022 for my sisters birthday as she likes my older version of the ghd max. Within 9mons, it would just turn red but wouldnt heat up hence why we returned it. Now Oct 2024, it is doing the same issue again whilst my older ghd max version is still perfectly working. You would expect it would be longer lasting considering the… Read more

This is a perfect option for quick hair fix – So, my hair is wavy and dry with dead ends from hair colouring damage. I work as an assistant accounts manager, dealing with clients almost every day, and having to see them with my awful-looking hair is the last thing I want. That's why I considered buying a hair iron and did some research until one day I saw this on Instagram from one of the… Read more
famous salons in Sydney.
Here are the things that made me decide to get it: - Used by professional hairstylists - Good for thick hair - Affordability: 8/10 - Quick to use and finish
And here's my verdict after getting it: - It's really convenient; after drying my hair, I only have to use this for a few minutes, and I'm all set every morning, considering I have full, thick, long hair—so thick that three people have to dry my hair at the salon. - I got mine during a sale, so I think the original price was $400+ AUD, and I got mine for $200+ AUD. - This is something you can use daily, and just a bit of hair oil after ironing makes it look healthy and shiny.
This is an honest review based on my personal experience, and I would totally recommend this product.

It’s great – My first hair straightener ever. And had to buy for my teen daughter. I am really against these things as it may cause so much damage. She has very long hair past her waist, very thick and dry. It’s working well with ease, it’s safe to use and the end result is great. The product stands up to its brand. Show details
Game changer - waited too long! – I have been using the same hair straightener I purchased in 2004 and thought it was good (purchase through a salon). This one is brilliant! Heats quickly and let’s you know when ready. Lightweight and easy to manage. I have fine hair - naturally curly and can frizz easily. One pass through the hair with this - straight and no frizz. Yes I use a… Read more
heat protectant product and it feels great and looks super shiny. I can’t believe I waited this long. Forever grateful to my hairdresser using it on my hair last week and telling me the best way to purchase!
Still love this GHD but wish I'd stuck with the original – I've had GHDs since they came out and never had a problem (except 1 where my hairdresser sold me one of theirs but it wasn't actually a GHD,). I have VERY long hair (mid back) and it's very very thick. I was tossing up up between replacing my original with the same or this one when it sadly retired. It has all the plus's of the original, good… Read more
quality, even heat etc. The bit about easier to make large waves tipped me in favour of this one.
It is true they're a bit easier but ultimately I've found it's not any different as a straightener compared to the original on long thick hair. BUT you do lose a bit of mobility and angles, I have some wispy strands of hair around my temples and ears and it's definately a lot easier to get to hard to reach areas with the original.
Ultimately, there are other ways to do curls, and it made no difference straightening my hair.
I still would always recommend the GHD but the small lack of manoevarability greatly outweighs the curl benefit with this model.

Faulty Item Terrible Service – I purchase the Max Wide Straightener in June and after 3 mths it would not turn on just flashed red and turned off. I contacted GHD and was given an address to send my item back for repair which I did. That was now 5 weeks ago and I have heard nothing. I have emailed multiple times with no response, I went onto their Customer Service Whats App… Read more
twice and again no response. I am at a loss what to do looks like I have lost $300. I have tried to look up a Head Office contact number and there is nothing absolutely no way to contact them or get a response. From such a large company this is terrible service. I would not purchase GHD again. Not worth the trouble.
Worked great, until it didn't – I had it for about a year but I'm not the kind of person who does my hair everyday. I probably straighten my hair once a fortnight, so it hadn't been used alot. Anyway, one day it started beeping and flashing. I googled it and general consensus was Thermistor was broken and needed replacing or repairing. Well I was still under warranty so I called… Read more
the 0800 number (I live in NZ). No answer. The message is that the staff are at.a party. Few days later I called again.... no please call between 9am and 2pm QLD TIME. Ridiculously small time window for working international customers but ok cool I'll try. I tried multiple times for several weeks with the most ridiculous messages on their voice mail. But if you try the extension for "making a payment" there's always staff available on there of course. Just never anyone to answer the phone for warranty claims. I give up and try online. Email all the info required as per their warranty or repair process online with screenshots of my receipt etc. They email be back saying my repair or replacement is approved and send me a return slip and address tell me to post the faulty straightener and tell me if I send them the tracking number they will post a replacement straight away instead of having to wait for them to receive the faulty one. WELL. I should've listened to my sister when she told me to get a cloud nine and I didn't. I sent my hair straightener back over 6 weeks ago. I can never get through to them by phone unless I through the payments extension. I have emailed multiple times and always get the automated "you're and valued customer were working on your request" and "it may take us 5 days to reply" I just want my broken hair straightener back at this point. I should've taken it to a local place and repaired it. I almost want to write fraud here because that's how I feel. They always have someone on the line to take money but never to discuss a warranty for an item they've already received. I'm upset. Don't buy ghd.
Horrendous customer service and faulty product – I bought the GHD max last year and it stopped working after about a month. So I went back to using my old straightener. I went to use it again about a month or two ago hoping it would work again but still flashing red. I had never dropped it and kept it in the packaging. I sent my ghd back a month and a half ago on warranty and have received… Read more
nothing, not even an email. The tracking number says it’s been with them for a month. Their customer service makes it almost impossible to get in contact with someone and just hangs up after a while, it’s as if they only have 2 people working the customer service lines. Incredibly disappointed and feel robbed

GHD Wide plate – I would not recommend this product. I bought this for my daughter who turned 18 in April. Stopped working only after a couple of weeks, red flashing light and would not heat up. I then returned it under warranty and after only 2 months the new one they sent is doing the same thing. There is obviously a problem with this product and it is very… Read more
disappointing as GHD use to be great when I first purchased one 20 years ago but I have nothing good to say now and if I can recommend to anyone to save the hassle and buy a different product. I am also still waiting for them to return my email and give me my money back as they just want to send me another faulty product
Great start, sad finish – I've had GHD, Cloud 9 and a cheaper iron SAS and the SAS has outlived them all. I love the GHD but I'm tired of throwing money at them with a few failed purchases dying just after warranty ends. The newest was the wide plate styler which died a month after warranty ended (2years) with a flashing red light and won't heat up. My first GHD back in 2007 was the best at 10 years longevity, they don't make them like that anymore. Show details
i just received my ghd max wide plate literally a few days ago and has STOPPED WORKING – I heard the ghd max wide plates were awesome hair straighteners , and i literally only recieved them a few days ago, and have only used them under 4 times and they have just suddenly stopped working, very disappointed! my remingtons have last me like 2 years and still going well, and wanted to upgrade to something nice. will be in contact with customer support regarding this. Snagging my hair – I was super excited for the ghd max 2021 edition with black sparkly plates..was very disappointed.. it does a great job straightening but no matter what I do it snags my hair in-between the plate and the plastic bit..I got a warranty replacement and the same thing with the new one so it's a design fault. Makes it super painful and takes even longer than normal as I'm trying to avoid getting my hair caught .very disappointed
Best straightener I’ve used! – I’ve gone through many different straighteners in my life time, but I always get reeled back into GHD. I have both a normal, and max GHD but this one is by far my favourite. My hair isn’t very thick, however it’s very long, and I just find that with the wider heat plate, your hair straightens so much better! A lot quicker too which means less… Read more
damage is being done to your hair! I also find that when I use it I don’t have to section my hair into tiny little bits, so again less damage is being done to my hair because it’s just so easy and practical to use! As for the heat, I’ve had this for I’d say... 5 years now and it still work just as perfect and heats up just as much as the day I got it! Hopefully not any time soon... however I would purchase again if need be
Its good – This has been a great find for my hair. I have very thich hair and this makes straightening a breeze. The plates being wider i find more effective. I find after awhile it may not be working as well as its new self but i am happy to recommend this product. Show details · 1
Lasted about 30 times and died. Out of warranty. Don’t buy ghd – The straightener worked very well it was great. However after about 30 uses it just stopped working. warranty only lasts for 2yrs and it was 2 years 6 months olds.
Straight hair like you can't imagine – I have incredibly thick and curly hair, and I've always had problems straightening it as no straighteners could handle my hair. With the wide plate of the gold max, It can handle larger parts of my hair. So easy to use, and it cuts down the time it usually took for my hair.
Isn’t it just the best!! 10 years on and still going strong – There’s been a lot of arguments about GHD changing, not being consistent over the years.. Luckily I haven’t had to worry about that because mine was purchased for me as a gift 10 years ago and is still in perfect working order today in original heat proof casing. The clips and accessories that accompanied it are long gone but my GHD will love forever. Curling hair, straightening hair whatever I use one tool!
Straight as a pin – My ghd is fantastic. It may be discontinued now but mine still works like new. My hair is fine so makes straightening easy, however I have used other brands of straightener and not only have I had to c go over the same piece over and over, they burn my hair. The ghd does none of that. One to two swipes max and your hair is healthy and straight.
Perfect – I love the design of the straightener , very easy to use there’s heat settings as well depending on thickness of your hair , dosent snag hair during operation it’s a smooth motion leaving hair shiny and effortless , heaps up with in 20 seconds beeps when ready , I personally have really thick long hair so I love this product as it makes my hair flawless without being difficult
Disappointing – Iv'e used this hair straightener for a year and It's not very good, it takes a long time to get my hair to a reasonable straightened look, and even during the day it starts to look different. It makes my hair look dry and limp. Iv'e used other older GHD models and they were fantastic, very hot, makes my hair look glossy and professional. With the… Read more
new GHDs, the quality is not there and doesn't compare to the predecessors. Iv'e already spent so much on this GHD and I'm not sure what to do now.

Good, consistent Straightener – It heats up in 30 secs, which is fairly standard these days, but is still super handy. It goes through all hair types smoothly. Stays at a consistent temperature. 1 pass through a section of hair is all that’s necessary. I do find the price still a little out of most of my clients reach. With cheaper straightening irons becoming better and better, I think it’s hard to justify the spend. I personally like mine and would purchase again.
I love this straightener! – I bought mine a couple years ago, doesn’t take as long to do my hair with the wider plate, heats up in a few seconds, very fast and effective, such a great product!hair doesn’t get caught or tugged on during usage, they should still sell this such a great straightener
Great product – I purchased the thicker plate hair straightener as I wear 3x heads of hair extensions and thought this would make my life easier. It absolutely does. Heaps quicker to straighten my overall hair. As the plates are thicker it does make it a little more difficult to get the little baby hairs, but I still prefer it as opposed to the smaller plate… Read more
version.
Heats up quickly which is a plus. Doesn’t pull or snag the hair when running through.
Overall, good product. Would purchase again.
Straightens in less time – Having previously had a GHD Classic, which was brilliant, I upgraded to the wide plate and it is so much better. I now do my hair in almost half the time as before, as the wider plates cover more and I can move faster. Heat up time is the same (I think). Thoroughly recommend the wide plate over the Classic.
Expensive and not that worthwhile – The product looks fancy and easy to use. It is really quick to heat it up and not so hot around it. It lasted long time during the day. But a bit expensive
Amazing for thick hair – This straightener has lasted me forever, never any faults or issues. When you have thicker hair this straightener really shines, allowing for an easy experience that is significantly quicker then the standard thinner style. It leaves my hair straight and shiny and looking fantastic. Heats up very quickly. Would highly recommend this straightener particularly if you have thick hair.
Does not disappoint – I recently had to replace my beloved straighteners that have last me years and years. I opted for these as I liked the design. As usual they did not disappoint. Love them.
can't live without hair straightener – I have purchased around 4 GHD straighteners and when they continue to work they are fantastic but if they stop working or drop them the cost of repairs is terrible..I purchased a Cloud Nine this time and I am so impressed with it (same price but a far superior machine) read about cloud nine

sooooo sad, should be a 5 star review – ive had mine for 18 months and today it just stopped...i used it every day and for the price, i would have expected it to last 20 years, i cant afford another, and i have the worst hair im devistated

Love it – For years I had not purchased a GHD and instead bought cheaper straighteners. If I had my time over I would have gone straight to the GHD as it makes my hair as straight as the hair dresser does it. It is so much quicker, smoother, and better results and I couldn't be happier.
LOVE IT – I can honestly say I love GHD hair straightners. I will never use any other one. I have 2, the thick plate and the thin plate. The thick plate one straightens my hair working 5mins. And the thin plate on is great for curling hair! They beat up pretty quick & turns off automatically after an hour of no use.
Beautiful! – Perfect lasting results, heats up fast and the perfect size to create flowing curls. Very easy to use, just have fun with it and experiment, does many different looks. No snags ever!
I cannot live without it – I absolutly love my ghd . I could not possibly live with out it . Wet or dry hair you can straighten and dry your hair within minutes. You can also curl your hair using this ghd . Tight curls , big curls not a problem with this ghd . The ghd glides through your hair like butter . I'm a fan and give this product a 10/10
