Not what it used to be – I bought this as an upgrade to my old GHD and have been disappointed from the start. The plates constantly stick in the hair whilst straightening/trying to curl. I have tried cleaning the plates, which still didn’t help. I also find the straightening doesn’t hold like my old one and my hair quickly turns wavy shortly after straightening. Very disappointed with the Platinum + – Bought the platinum + straightener and it just won’t straighten my hair! The temperature fluctuates. I have to go over the same spots again and again. My hair looks dull and lifeless and it just doesn’t hold, by the end of the day I’ve lost the straightness and the next day it’s almost as if I never used it (except extra lifeless). straightener is literally my best friend that I’d be lost without.

Believe me, throughout my life, I’ve had quite a few straighteners of varying different quality. Most however have been fairly cheap ones, with me never having paid more than $70. In current tough economic times, affordability has been the primary consideration, with the simple need of having one that works ok is all that I require.

3 months ago, for my recent birthday, a family member gave me a GHD Platinum Plus Hair Straightener as a special treat. They also gave me the receipt just in case I needed to return or exchange it. I just about fell over when I saw the cost of it being a whopping $250. Maybe I’m ancient & “behind the times”, but from my initial perspective, that’s an enormous amount to spend on a hair straightener, and an expense that I would not have undertaken if I was paying for it myself. I was however, of course super grateful for the extravagant gift. It comes in a range of colours. Mine is black.

So, first things first. The packaging & box is gorgeous. Upon opening & holding the straightener, it feels beautiful and it’s lightweight; probably the lightest one I’ve ever owned. It actually does “feel like” a really good quality premium product. I immediately noticed the unique wishbone hinge and round barrel which means the plates align perfectly making it easier for overall handling and to create and control a variety of styles & I love that versatility. It comes with a 2.7m (8.5 feet) 360 degrees swivel cord which is great and means you don’t have to turn into a contortionist for those hard to reach bits.

This is a “ smart” straightener with more advanced features than you can poke a stick at. And it’s a super FAST heat up. It took just 13 seconds to reach its temperature of 185 degrees Celsius, and here’s an important point. It only has one heat setting which is 185 degrees Celsius (365 degrees Fahrenheit), which even to me, felt steaming hot, yet at the same time, this straightener was purpose built to have just that one heat setting for optimum styling without damaging the hair. The platinum plates itself are precision milled to the highest specifications and have a glossy finish and I did notice this played a major role in a smooth, effortless finish when I was gliding it through my hair. I loved the fact that I only had to glide it through one section of my hair once to achieve a beautiful straight finish, whereas other straighteners I’ve used, I’d have to do it multiple times to achieve anywhere near the same finish. I admit, I am seriously impressed with this product.

The advanced technology in this product blows my mind, with many of the features being ones you can’t see. So, get this, it has “ultra-zone predictive technology” with high-tech sensors built-in to both floating plates that constantly monitor the heat at apparently hundreds of times per second, and, consequently, what this does is that the product automatically recognises your hair thickness & the speed of your styling & it adjusts the delivered power accordingly for optimum outcome without damage. I’m thinking, woah, … this is seriously next level.

They say it makes your shinier, which I didn’t necessarily see with my hair, but it certainly does feel healthier.

It automatically turns itself off after 30 minutes if inactivity which is super great, especially for forgetful people like me, and I noticed it also cooled down very quickly as well. It comes with a decent 3 year warranty, which, for me instills confidence in the product. Although I have read that some customers have experienced issues with customer service, and the product conking out after a relatively short period of time giving way to warranty issues, however, as I have only been using this product for 3 months, this is clearly a wait and see.

It also comes with a heat protective plate guard as well as universal voltage which is great for travel and essentially means you can literally take it anywhere with peace of mind.

Overall, these are early days for me with the GHD Platinum Plus Hair Straightener, so it’s longevity, warranty & customer service are still significantly unknown factors, but based on my experience with this product so far, I absolutely love it and I’m in total awe of its versatility, technology, design and the effortless results it can achieve. The question of “Is it worth $250”? , the only honest answer I can give at this point is YES, … but ONLY if it does have longevity & it continues to last for several years without grief. If it doesn’t, then my answer would probably be different.

In conclusion, I genuinely feel that the GHD Platinum Plus Styler has really changed the game in terms of a hair styling product and it’s definitely the smartest, sleekest, and safest straightener I’ve ever used. I’ve tried many, but, without a doubt the Platinum Plus Styler is head and shoulders above the competition and it’s just a shame in a way that the high price tag means that not everybody will have the opportunity of experiencing just how good a styler can be.

Worst ghd do not buy – Received as a gift, it plays a stupid tune before it turns on and it sounds like that will break first, constant catching of my hair in the corners of plates. Made my hair kinky while asleep. Worse gift, I would of preferred the money that was spent on it go towards the cost of living.

Not worth the Hype – I am so disappointed. The platinum+ straighteners do not heat up enough. Do not straighten my hair & definitely do not stop frizz! They are also not good for curling! GHD on 6 September 2023. Nearly two months later, they still haven't sent me a replacement (despite saying it would take 14 business days). I think they are trying to run down the time on my warranty. They are not accepting phone calls or returning emails. My next step is to report this conduct to the ACCC. I will never knowingly buy a GHD product again.

GHD Customer Service is woeful – I was told my faulty straightener would be replaced under warranty and it may take up to 14 days for the replacement to arrive... 4 weeks later and I am still waiting on my replacement! I have had previous issues with GHD customer service i.e it took 4 weeks and a report to Paypal to refund me on a product that was wrongly sent to me. Based on my experiences, I would recommend not buying their products. NB: Even if you purchase through a 3rd party, you will need to deal with GHD on warranty issues

Worst purchase EVER!!!! Do not recommend GHD OR SSS HAIR – Ghd platinum plus straightener purchased from SSS hair late last year retuned as it was faulty, beeping and read light flashing after using for 5 minutes…a google search advises it’s a fault with thermistor and to return if within warranty. they will be sending my faulty straightener back to me. I’ve explained multiple times the fault does not occur from cold and it starts beeping and red light flashing and then goes cold…this is after using for several minutes….

Wow…. paid over $350 for a straightener that is less than 12 months old and cannot be used. GHD are missing in action ..do not answer calls or emails. Burnt big time … I highly recommend you buy from a local reputable company who honour warranties not SSS hair and certainly will not be buying a GHD again!!!

Red light beeping on all my replacements – My first straightener lasted exactly 12 months.. started beeping and flashing red. Got a replacement, that one lasted 12 months. Got another replacement then another. I think I'm up to my 5th replacement and that has now started doing the exact same thing after only 8 months. Safe to say I'm officially done with GHD. So bad

Terrible - hardly used and red beeping sound stopped working – Purchased this a year or so ago. Have used less than a handful of times and last time it just started beeping and red light instead of white. And will not heat up. Ghd offers no solution to get fixed. Will never buy again. Straightener good when it actually works – I have had multiple GHD stylers now and my ‘original’ one lasted for more than 8 years. Now that my third styler has broken in a 2-3 year period I won’t be buying another one again. For the amount they cost, I would expect it to last much longer.

It’s an expensive paper weight – It got the red circle of death conveniently a few months outside of warranty. My other 2 old school GHDs with the gold plates have lasted several years. Extremely disappointed with this brand that have created such an inferior product like this. More “technology” means more chance of the product screwing up! same way. Now my hairs feels to be so fluffy and rough after straightening and am so exhausted. No one has time to go through the replacement process again and again but i spend $350 for the strainght so can't even dump it off. Feeling betrayed by GHD. I will never suggest anyone to go for GHD specially for platinum+, its a crap.

straightener will only last me 6-12 months again. Do not recommend this at all. It straightens my hair beautifully and I love that it sits at a safer temp for your hair, but it has been so unreliable it is not worth the time or money at all!!!

Very fast heating and perfectly straightens hair – Very beautiful package I got with the ghd platinum plus. I got a free brush and bag too. and I don’t even use any heat spray and it doesn’t damage my hair whatsoever. I could even straighten my hair before bed and wake up in the morning and it’s straight as it was the night before. It just does the job quickly and efficiently.
